NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

I understand that. I was saying that Plattsburgh win percentage is .820 and Norwich's is .833...are they really going to give Norwich that category with such a insignificant margin? Is it that cut and dry, whoever's percentage is higher wins the category?

Don't forget that Norwich had five wins taking away that if secondary criteria ever came into play, their winning percentage would shoot up a bit.

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

You would think that with a significant edge in SOS for Plattsburgh, that win % would be less critical.

It seems every year, with 5 autobids and 2 at-large, that some relatively insignificant event could screw up everyone's season. If Norwich loses their conference playoff, then either Plattsburgh or the NESCAC runner up is likely to stay home, and it could all come down to the disallowed goal that Middlebury had taken away in the Norwich game. Go you Cadets!!!

This is all assuming that it's a Plattsburgh vs. RIT championship, with RIT winning.
What happens if Plattsburgh wins the Championship, or if either RIT or Platty loses in the quarterfinals?

It's really hard to know what the committee views as significant and what they don't. In all the years I've been following the men's committees, I've seen lots of shifts back and forth on how the committee does things. At one time the committee would basically count the number of comparisons won. Other years they have taken a more nuanced approach. It's only since Norwich started to play women's hockey that I've looked at the process in women's DIII. It appears from this that the big difference the committee sees between the two is in the common opponents category. It always seems like once it is over, we can kind of deconstruct it, but the tea leaves are hard to read in advance.

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

so if Adrian wins today RIT is the only school left in contention that is less than 500 miles from Adrian..correct? What happens then if RIT wins the west?

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

River Falls, Norwich, Plattburgh... Only two get to dance. Which two will it be?

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

with todays results will they really make RIT PLAY A FIRST ROUND GAME ? I'd think they would be #1 overall. Granted if the send Adrian west rit would end up playin a first rounder anyway

Isn't RIT the only team within 500 miles of Adrian?

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

OK... what a wacky weekend!! I'm seeing this as a 4-3 split (no question). Adrian, GA, WIRF. In the east Man'ville, RIT, MIDD, and either Norwich or Platty. So, what are they going to do? I don't believe they will head west for a second year. So, we are heading EAST, IMHO. They might give RF the #1 but have the site TBD (much like the year Platty hosted with GA as #1)

So, Adrian heads to GA.

Now the mess of the east. I'm gonna give the nod to Norwich (2 big wins in 2011 over Platts and Midd) But it was a weak loss to Man'ville vs the Platts loss to RIT. So, it really is a toss up.

Either way, Midd will host Norwich/Platty (the conference champion almost always hosts if my memory serves me right, although I think there was an incidence with Amherst a few years back)

Man'ville will travel to RIT and because of the potential of having Adrian DRIVE to RIT if they beat GA. RIT will host. Although there are a number of other reasons RIT will host (they deserve it is a good one, but lets be honest its the NCAA, but also because they are the mostly likely team to win the first round game) BUT, I think the NCAA will wait on announcing a host until after round 1 is done.

Thoughts?

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

My bad, I typed in St. Peter and selected Wisconsin rather than Minnesota. My fault completely. I should have known better.

Adrian can only play RIT without having to fly.

I think we'll have a case of RIT hosts if they beat Adrian.

Here is the hosting pecking order IMHO.

RIT
River Falls
Middlebury

Middlebury gets the bye I think.

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

So, who gets the bye then? You really think Midd gets it?

I'd be impressed if they did the Adrian to RIT. We've talked about it in the past with it never coming to fruition (mostly because Adrian never made the dance!!) So:

GAS@WIRF
Adrian@RIT
Man'ville@Platts/Norwich
Midd with the bye?

Do you think they, under any circumstance say, we are going to Midd because we can announce that NOW? Or do they hope RIT "holds serve" and annouce when they do? Now, say Adrian upsets RIT, where are we going then? Midd?

Now a few years back there were many problems with MEN'S teams not applying to host the specific rounds - do you see that as a problem this year?

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Middlebury would next in line. So yes.

I do not think they will give the hosting rights to Middlebury. I think it will be a wait and see if RIT and/or River Falls win with priority to those two first.

I highly doubt any of the teams with a chance of being in the tournament this year did not submit their paperwork to host.

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Thanks Prez for clearing things up for me. You really think they'd go back West with a WIRF vistory and RIT loss? I knew last year went well, just didn't know it went THAT well.
