NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

I reiterate for all to see in this thread for what I posted in the game scores thread.

The comparison between Norwich and Plattsburgh HAS changed.

Instead of being tied in records vs. NCAA ranked teams, Plattsburgh's record is now better even though both teams lost to the only two NCAA ranked teams they played.

Plattsburgh has played more games vs. NCAA ranked teams so their loss didn't hurt them as much in their winning percentage as it did for Norwich.

Plattsburgh is now 6-4-3, while Norwich is 5-4. They used to be tied at .625, which gave Norwich a 2-1 win in the criteria.

Now its a 2-2 split.

Here is the updated comparison:

Norwich vs. Plattsburgh
WIN % 0.8043 0.7963
SOS 0.5175 0.5688
H2H 1- 1- 0 1- 1- 0
COP 4- 2- 1 4- 3- 3
RNK 5-4-0 (.556) 6-4-3 (.577)

They tie 2-2. Norwich takes win percentage and common opponents, while Plattsburgh takes record vs ranked teams and strength of schedule.

IMHO, the large difference in SOS is Plattsburgh's biggest asset.

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

So, wait, you think they'd take the bye from RIT and give it to Midd just because RIT is closer to Adrian? That's ridiculous!

Jiggles, you actually bring up a good point.

Adrian would have to fly to RF so the NCAA would still be flying three teams if Adrian beat RIT.

River Falls would still by far be the top team left though.

It's the way it works. Sorry.

The NCAA in the past has said...NO FLIGHTS for the quarterfinals.

If they hold true to that form, then yes RIT will have to play Adrian in the first round.

Why not this. Adrian plays in the same league at RF, and I do not think they fly during the season. They could bus back to RF.

RIT plays Manhat.. win they host. Man will be team 7.
Nor and Middle play.
Adrian and RF play
GAC gets bye.

Seems like the most cost effective way to handle the qters.

Pool C teams should not get a bye, and should have to pay some price for losing conf tourney.

Rit loses and Midd wins, Midd hosts.

Prez,

While I agree that WIRF would be the best team left. In the past I thought that the NCAA worked its decisions with LOTS of weight on $$$. Now, I know last year that wasn't the case - because they finally went WEST!! So, with an RIT loss, you think WIRF gets the nod over Midd to host? The numbers back you up. But IMHO the history of the NCAA backs up a MIDD hosted final 4 weekend.

It's certainly plausible.

The key here is, is the West deserving of having tow teams in the final 4?

This has a flying team in the Quarters - something I'm pretty sure hasn't ever happened in the past. It also has a total of 3 flights (Adrian to RF, and GAS and the winner back east to the Final 4) Also, GAS isn't #1 out west. So if your idea holds water (that is a first round flight), it'd most likely be:

Adrian@GAS
Norwich/Platts@Midd
Man'ville@RIT
WIRF with the bye.

Thats 3 flights if GAS wins no matter WHERE you go and 4 flights if Adrian wins.

Just doesn't look like it'd happen

It doesn't matter that they are in the same league. The NCAA mandates that any team that travels more than 500 miles to play a game MUST fly. I honestly do not think the NCAA will allow a team to fly for the quarterfinals.

Money is the most important factor and it trumps fairness.

It sucks...but its the way it is.

River Falls should still be the #1 seed in the west. They wouldn't put Adrian against River Falls, they would put Adrian at GAC. I'd assume in order to fly, Adrian would have to bus to detroit or chicago and then fly to minneapolis and bus to St Peter....I'm sure Adrian would be more than willing to ride a bus anywhere as they spend a bazillion hours on a bus throughout the season.

Interesting but if they do want 2 west teams I think GA will play not sure if it would be RF or Adrian( probably RF bus ride) but certainly that would make more sense too me the ncha was much stronger this year. Still I think Adrian is going east Rf and GA play as the NCAA prays for an Adian loss and thats why RIT(bus ride) does not get the bye. So yes someone just got lucky I think because after all the sos,h2h,cop and rnk the accountants will rule the day because you can't spend football money on d3 womens hockey.

Thats why it took OT at River Falls needed time to stretch out the bus leggs ( nobody travels like a bulldog)

It'd be interesting to know more about the rules here. Toledo is the closest big city with an airport and it has a direct Delta flight to Minneapolis/St. Paul (yes, I'm procrastinating so I looked it up). IF IF IF, the NCAA go against everything its ever done in the past (that is make decisions based on money), then I COULD see a Adrian to GAS, with a hosting WIRF. However, I just can't see a western final 4 this year. So based on history if the NCAA and some of the standings we are left with this: The only decision for a team to make the tourny is Norwich/Platts. And then deciding who hosts first round games and RIT (with a win over Adrian) hosting the final four.

Now, here is something that HASN'T been talked about and I think HIGHLY unlikely. Give Adrian the bye.

GAS@WIRF
Norwich/Platt@Midd
Man'ville@RIT
Adrian Bye

RIT hosts with a win.

Financially this works out the very best for the NCAA. No flights in the quarters, potentially only 1 flight for the finals. Actually the more I think about this, the more I think it could happen.

Re: NCAA DIII Rankings Projections

Hey everytime an east team travels west they claim bus leggs for half a season can't we have 2 days
