Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

In 10 games against the Minnesota High School Elite, Shattuck did go 8-2 and out scored the elite 32-12 in those 10 games.

Here is another stat, SSM Parent $45,000 for 2014-15 and the Elite Parent $4,000 +/- a 1,000. Its just a stat.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Saying talent is diluted in the Elite League is like saying the Gopher's roster lacks depth.

But like SSM the Gophers is just one team, and they also recruit from across the country - including players from SSM - plus Canada, even Finland! Assume they could take all of the Elite League players, about 100 in all, and divide them up into six teams and take turns playing each one in their D1 schedule. Yes, they would have lots of "depth", but their top talent would be very spread out and collectively the six teams would have a very poor record.

While SSM may recruit from across the country, it doesn't mean their roster is blue chip from top to bottom.

Unless you're talking USA or Canada Olympics, I don't know of any team that is "blue chip from top to bottom".

You'd have a case if you were comparing a AAA summer all-star team like the Whitecaps playing against the Elite League.

Actually this would be a more equal comparison vs. SSM, since the Whitecaps is sort of an all star team that's made up of some of the top girls from the six Elite League teams. They would be on a more equal footing with SSM, even though their "recruiting territory" (almost entirely Twin Cities) is much more limited and they don't practice together for 7 months a year while playing a 60 game schedule.

I'm done trying to explain the difference, so this will be my last post on the subject.

... which proves the statement, stats don't lie, only the person using them ....

when a parent shells out the dough for SSM they are getting a lot more than the parent spending for the elite league
I've heard they study things like geography, history, .... down there too, plus I think they feed them too

the two are totally different

You clearly haven't been paying enough attention to the BC fans. :D

I think the Elite players might study those demanding courses too, they must because some players have gone to Ivy Schools. SSM isn't known for its academic prowess.

No doubt the parents sending their kid to SSM for hockey aren't doing it for the academics, but there is something to be said for a kid living away from home (it's why they call it college prep, right?) I'm not endorsing one over the other, when parents send their kid to SSM, they are sending them to a college prep school and paying for things they have already presumably paid through taxes for.
What the heck, the same argument could be made comparing Breck/Blake/BSM/HM... compared to your local HS.
It's nice parents have options and can select what they believe is best for their kid, given their SES.

I would also like to inquire...if anyone has knowledge regarding improved, or not so much accuracy of the stats published, or perhaps greater accuracy per alternative sites vs. the Strib. Thanks.

No way to vouch for how accurate they might be relative to past years, when there were definitely mistakes/inaccuracies routinely made when they first appeared. However, in most cases the more blatant ones have been corrected, usually pretty quickly, after being noticed and brought to the attention of a coach.

Bingo. I don't know how anyone could with a straight face argue the situations are similar, but more importantly why they'd want to. There seems to be a far bigger need for validation in these threads (not referring to you, D2D) than I'm used to seeing elsewhere. Perhaps as the women's game continues to expand that need will subside.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

P.S. Since when did the Ponies expand their recruiting territory all the way down to Texas? ;)
Since they started to s... I mean, have trouble finding much talent locally.:p

Given that the family moved into the district from Texas when she was in 8th grade its not exactly like they recruited her.

Posting this just for brookyone! :)

Appreciate the link D2D. I'd like to see the Ponies back at Xcel but going to be very difficult IMO. Hill Murray still in the way.

The Ponies do seem to be improved, winning their first two games by 6-0 scores, but they did not fare well in their third game against Edina on Saturday, losing 3-7. And this coming Saturday it doesn't get any easier as they face another western suburban power in Minnetonka. That will be a good indicator of just how much the Ponies have improved from a year ago.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

For some reason that defies every particle of common sense, many of us seem to think we know more than the coaches that put in countless hours teaching our kids the games they play. In a few instances it might actually be true. Which begs the next question: Why aren’t you coaching the team? But more often than not, your perceived expertise is as delusional as the fantasy football general managers that actually believe they could run an NFL team.
Amen. We are all guilty of this. We haven't seen a minute of practice, yet we think that kid who is buried on the fourth line or is always a healthy scratch deserves more ice time.

And I love the "fire the coach" posts that keep popping up. They start out by saying that there is plenty of talent on the team, but the coach can't develop it. Later, it evolves to the coach can't recruit. Life is easier from an armchair.

There is a certain moron who used to write for the Strib but moved over to radio, I think he has suffered brain damage from carbon monoxide inhaled while in his "garage". He once wrote how nobody ever calls for womens coaches to be fired because nobody cares about womens sports teams. Because of that I always call for the coach to be fired when the team has a bad game, how else can I prove I care? ;)
