Minnesota Cup

Re: Minnesota Cup

dogs2012 says make it an event. I agree with the thought process but how do you do that? How do you make non diehards go to college hockey games? If you figure that out you're a smarter man than McLeod

Re: Minnesota Cup

But it did start and evidently Minnesota's reaction to it is to not play former conference mates.

Minnesota is willing to play former conference mates but the majority of games must be played in Mariucci arena.

Re: Minnesota Cup

Please tell me for the love of Parise that none of those were serious answers. I get the feeling that not all three were... But also that all three werent

Re: Minnesota Cup

Do I really give a crap if tUMD ever plays UMTC again? Not really. AMSoil didn't even sell out for the Gophers this year. If I had to choose between playing UND and UMTC, I'd choose UND every time. UND fans actually travel to games. Those games will be sold out if they are not already.

I know people think when they say something is "laughable" that they sound intelligent and superior, but in reality they appear as pretentious idiots.

There are always plenty of Gophers fans at UMD and there were plenty at NCC last weekend. I myself do care if UM continues to play UND, UMD, SCSU and MSUM. I bet you too do or you wouldn't get so worked up about the Gophers as often as you do, but I guess it sounds much cooler to pretend otherwise.

btw I know people think if they come off angry that they sound serious and determined, but in reality they appear to just be angry. ;)

And that's fine, but it can't be a one way street. No school is going to have a series at MN without having some kind of payment in return. That could be anything from an actual cash payment to a return trip from the Gophers. MN can demand all they want, but no one is going to play non-conference away without some kind of return back. That's just not realistic.

This is what will kill the UND/MN rivalry. no way North Dakota plays at Minny only.

Re: Minnesota Cup

And it was the best of the three. :) to be fair, A dome isn't a bad idea, but I don't like the idea of THE dome. Bad sight lines plus the fear of the roof collapsing wouldn't help attendance

I think it's a great idea. Schedule a Gopher game for the same time as the Vikings demolition of the Dome. Get a new football stadium and get rid of a bunch of Gopher fans. Everyone wins!

It happens every season already. ;)

But if you're right and some potential opponents refuse as you say, perhaps the admin will finally open up the schedule the way many fans want.

You're right, it does happen every year. It doesn't happen with the same team every year though. For example, how would it benefit MSU to play at the gophers every year without a return trip? By doing that msu then has to find an additional team every single year to do the same for them to maximize the number of home game revenues msu capitalizes on. Unless mn pays for msu to come, msu loses money when they already have to work on a tight budget. It simply doesn't make financial sense for schools to play only away games against mn.

I don't expect they expect it to happen every year either. For instance they may believe they can sched each MN school once every 4 years. Not saying I advocate it, but that could be their angle.

If that's the case, then the admin is flat out lying about wanting to support hockey in the state of mn. I don't believe that to be reality. I think they are attmpting to support other schools and make the same amount of cash at the same time. If that's their angle, I don't really think any of the other schools would agree. Again, unless mn pays other schools to come, there is no benefit from that arrangement.

Re: Minnesota Cup

If Minnesota wants all their games at home then they will have Plenty of foot notes for these wins removed because it will hurt their RPI. They won't get games at home vs. quality opponents without a return visit.

*sigh*

They have 4 non-conference road games to schedule. That will be plenty of return trips etc. Plus, the Big 10 schedule isn't going to be a cakewalk. They'll have plenty of RPI. Try again.

I guess we'll revisit this in a couple years. I never mentioned you B1G schedule though.
