Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Maine lands a forward for 2012

Maine has received a verbal commitment from Ryan Lomberg, a forward who played this past season for the Mississauga (Ontario) Reps of the Greater Toronto Hockey League. Lomberg, 15, scored 54 goals in 64 regular-season games this season and is expected to join the Black Bears in the fall of 2012.

"I wanted to make the decision and get it out of my way, and focus on getting better and making the jump (to college)," said Lomberg, who will play this fall at the Hill Academy in Concord, Ont. "I want to bring leadership, heart and passion to Maine."

Lomberg chose Maine over Michigan State, Boston College, Notre Dame, Harvard, Quinnipiac and Clarkson.

"Once I visited the school, I loved it," Lomberg said of his unofficial visit to Orono.

Lomberg is coached by former Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Frank Pietrangelo, who made arguably one of the most pivotal saves in Penguins history in 1991 - simply known as "The Save."

Heisenberg says his next team is The Hill, a private college-prep boarding school in Pennsylvania. That leads me to think (hope?) that he's planning on getting his education.
...More or Less on the line of what Martin Ouellette did.

That would be great but 15 yr olds rarely have there mind set so I'll keep that wait and see attitude until he shows up in Orono. I realize recruiting younger players is whats up these days. Sounds like he could be a big help to the team.

According to Lenzi, the prep school he is going to is in Hill academy in Concord, Ontario, not some school in PA.

The Lomberg kid seems like a good pick-up......but I'm not holding my breath that he'll ever show up in Orono.

I'll get out my "Maine wasted resources by recruiting a 15 year old" mad lib.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

msu - overgrown
bc - collar up nurds
notre dame - wrong sport
harvard - ultra nurds
quinnipiac - wannabees
clarkson - engineer geeks

at least he chose the right school.

maybe........so what would be the right sport at ND?...........and don't say football

Brian Morgan made the US U-17 select team, and (I think) led the development camp with 10 points. Coach will be Sean Tremblay from the Jr. Monarchs.

Yes, it really sounds like he is standing out among this group! This is excellent news between he and Lomberg. They sound like two potential A- players that don't appear to be using Maine for Major Junior leverage (yet :p ).

And that's an important start, because this is the class that will replace Gus, Brian, and Spencer. That's a lot of offense to lose in one year!

...I hate saying or thinking this but I would think that this is Nyquist last season at Maine even thou he's a Junior...Detroit usually moves there Prime Prospects to the next level to further move then up in the hockey competion...sadly he'll most likely be in Grand Rapids next season and the AHL.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

football>>>>so they've lost their way for a few years. see maine hawkey last coupla yearz.

ND has been out of the upper echelon for 15 years, Maine hockey hasn't. ND has had a few good teams in that span but only two 10 win seasons during that stretch, very un-Irish. Your point is well taken..............i just don't like Notre Dame so my anti-Irish bias is showing through a bit

Oh, no, I've been saying that as well. I agree, completely.

Yeah, I know, but for an old phart like me good football and Notre Dame are synonymous regardless of recent lack of success. Someone someday will bring it back.

With their current admission standards in place, the only one who can bring it back is.... A new admissions officer

Another sparkplug type? (5'7" 141lbs)

I don't know how to interpret Empire league performance, so who know what a 2ppg average means.

I'm more concerned about games played. 31 in 2009, 3 in 2010. Injury problems??

according to their website:
"Leen split time last season between the EJHL and the Empire team where he was a Empire league all-star and Empire October player of the month. "

It was bad when Maine started recruiting primarily out of the Eastern Junior league, now Maine is recruiting out of the farm teams for the Eastern Juniors.

as long as BU and BC do not recruit out of the USHL and the USA development program, maine will be alright.
