Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Another sparkplug type? (5'7" 141lbs)

I don't know how to interpret Empire league performance, so who know what a 2ppg average means.

I'm more concerned about games played. 31 in 2009, 3 in 2010. Injury problems??

looks like he missed ten games beginning october 24th, returning to the lineup on
december 12th... 6 weeks or so... could have been a broken hand or something like that...

He played 5 games for the EJHL Hitmen last season. That could explain the gap in the Empire League games (or at least some of it)

yep.... he played with the ejhl team beginning 10/22 and wrapping up on 11/15. the empire league team played four games between his last ejhl ame and his return to the empire team lineup... maybe he took a knock in an ejhl game that took him a month to return from..

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I'll get out my "Maine wasted resources by recruiting a 15 year old" mad lib.

Lomberg is an excellent pick up for Maine. I highly doubt that he will be another Ashley or Watson and go the CHL route....besides I know the team that drafted him will not make a big push to sign him.

as long as BU and BC do not recruit out of the USHL and the USA development program, maine will be alright.

It seems to me that Maine has really picked up its recruiting lately. Lomberg and Gingras are two players that both BU and BC would have loved to have.

I would agree. I think having a former NHL player on the recruiting staff gives Maine a great deal of credibility in the eyes of the family, player and advisor.

well, here's hoping they actually play for Maine one day.

Mav and Chris, (or Rusty and Finocciaro, or whatever you are logging in as), can you name a few, a bunch or any recruits that Jerry signed, but failed to land? Does that happen at BC?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

All these forwards are well and good, but where are the (quality) 'keepers?

I'd like to see one commit, even if he's still in Pampers,FCS!

...I'm on board on that WISH List...Lets HOPE that Martin Ouellette will be the surprise that UMaine Hockey needs this upcoming season and a DECENT backup in either Sullivan or Sirman...all 3 have the opportunity to seize the chance at the #1 job...all 3 have the chance, lets hope their's a Diamond in the rough among them...with that said this TEAM goes nowhere's unless they receive good to game stealing netminding...if they do they can be tough..but if their netminding is streaky to weak then your looking at a High Scoring maybe .500 team....but I'm going on the positive side that one of them gets the job done and Maine Hockey has the Season we have been waiting for the past 3-4 years.

Last season Kenny Ryan enrolled at BC and left after only a few days for MJ.
Recent verbal commitment USNTDP G Brandon Maxwell went MJ.
There are others recently, I just don't have the time or inclination to chase them down.

Yeah...um....we're gonna need you to.....um...go ahead and....come in on Saturday. Oh, oh, and I almost forgot. Ahh, I'm also gonna need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday, too...

Oh, sorry, that was Lumbergh, not Lomberg. :D (Yes, I'm bored).

Maxwell is the only guy they didn't get on campus that I can think of in the last 13 or 14 years. They are very reserved about these types of guys that are always thinking about major juniors, as you can see they told Clendenning to go pound sand when he was waffling about D1 vs. Major Junior, and they can afford to do so with their recruiting prowess. That's why they generally stay away from the Canadians (again, generally) and like to go with the local kids and mix in some NY/national kids. There are a lot of reasons for why this works for BC and this part of the equation is one of them.

Other notables would be:

- Kenny Ryan, who was inexplicably stupid about the whole college experience despite having a dad that played football at Notre Dame and brother who was a punter for Michigan... but at least he showed up and played two exhibition games.
- Adam Pineault, who was amazingly mediocre and had trouble cracking a very stacked lineup before taking his act to Canada after his freshman year...
- Todd Perry... another guy who was mediocre and couldn't crack the lineup and took off after a year (or less?).
EDIT below
- Ryan Hayes. Another guy who had trouble getting on the ice and distinguishing himself and took off after a year or less.

Not many guys commit and never show up at BC. But it's going to happen to everyone... some less than others because of different risks in recruiting strategies for programs, etc.

Pineault was an amazing example to watch unfold.

His father pushed the kid to hard and didnt get the concept of time and space. Instead of letting him have confidence and develop, he always wanted him to play up 2 or 3 years vs better comp. That does not always work. If you cant control the puck/play, you will not develop as well
He was a 2 year underager at natl program and was only 17 when he showed up at BC, which was just as much BC's fault as it was his fathers.
Amazing that he is playing in Europe now after a grand total of 3 NHL games and a few years in AHL.
It also didnt help that the kid was "borrowing" ID's from other students and selling them(one to the persons sister no less) and that dad came to every practice. No blending there..

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Nice article by Larry on Conner Leen

http://www.bangordailynews.com/story/bdn/Leen-commits-to-UMaine-Walsh-tourney-successful,150784

Also some snippets on the Shawn Walsh golf tournament, Shawn's son Tyler transferring to Maine (who will assist with team video) & some vague references to renovations @ The Alfond.

I wonder if the vague references to an Alfond renovation means that basketball is gone from Alfond for good??? Any major renovations at this point would probably mean an expansion and/or reconfiguration of seating. Then again......it may mean some paint and new urinals.

Very little expansion, I am told, with bleacher seats coming out of lower bowl and seats with backs as replacements. Improvements on other locker rooms, etc.

Whoopty doo!

They need to remove the balcony and run the upper seating around that entire end of the building. Would probably increase seating capacity by a couple hundred and improve a miserable situation for those that currently sit under the balcony. Instead we get another band-aid.......but it's the State 'O Maine way......don't ever build anything new......just expand and remodel 20 times and end up spending more than you would have on a brand new facility in the long run.

It's my understanding from a conversation with an "insider" a few weeks ago that all of The Pit renovation funding is in place and that architects were supposed to be on-site a few weeks ago, but had to delay their trip a few weeks. Not sure on the total time to completion, but my take was that it was a sure bet basketball is moving out of Alfond "soon".

....With what you have mentioned that they are replacing the Bleacher Lower Bowl with Chair-Back seating..{which is a GOOD thing}..does that MEAN the people that have those seats have to PAY a DONOR's fee each year...all other Chair-Back seating go for a Donor Cost each Season..or will they be FORCED if they don't Donate to take different seating..?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Was on campus a couple of days ago and it appears they are painting the wood portion of the ceiling white.
