Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

ok, I stand corrected. Very few people thought or at least speculated that oil would or could pay for the Iraq war. Didn't make sense then, doesn't make sense now. Can you imagine the screaming around the world if we took any oil from Iraq? It'd be deafening.

I think if Iraq used oil proeeds to pick up some of the tab it wouldn't raise a single eyebrow.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Milwaukee's had more that its fair share of off the chart political weirdos over the years. Remember about a decade ago some dude (was he on city council?) wanted to secede from the city and spent a lot of time posing for pictures dressed like Fidel and carrying weapons? Wanted to establish a city within a city, or something. Someone pointed out to him that "whitey" controlled the utilities, and movement ran out of steam. I mean, can you really imagine winter in Milwaukee with no heat, no light and no "Monk?"

Milwaukee had a couple of socialist mayors years ago, one of them went on to be one of the few (maybe even the only?) Socialist to be elected to Congress, if I remember my history correctly.

I don't know why this thing bothers me so much, but I really hope this woman is made into a full blown laughingstock.

Despite the man at the end of the video assuring us that she knows that AZ borders Mexico, if you really listen to her, there's not a minor slip of the tongue, or a word that is missed, etc etc. This was a full phrase and more that stated that AZ doesn't border Mexico. That's what bothers me (and makes me laugh hysterically) at how this woman got office.

we have a member of congress who is worried about Guam flipping over... we know how... we just don't want to believe it.

You know, instead of God smiting all the sinners, how about he smite all the really, really stupid people.

I figure the sinners will get taken care of because of their own doings. The stupid people somehow still survive, for the most part.

So Obama has declared "war" on Arizona, and is allying himself with Mexico in the effort and is sending a handful of national guardsmen to "patrol" the border (even though the number involved is insufficient and they don't have the requisite authority anyway). Now we learn the administration has appointed a conscientious objector in the "war" on illegal immigration to a key post in ICE. A guy who's been a big supporter of the "sanctuary city" concept. This is good politics for the Dems, but bad governance.

I'm thinking we'll see more of this nice looking African American woman, who's still a Houston cop, before November.

So obama is becoming more and more like lincoln every day: Declaring war on one's own country - first time since lincoln. :D

I wonder if this brings up the competition of factions bit (black vs. hispanic)... hispanic wins over black on demographics because hispanic who are in favor of importing more of their racial group are more likely to bring in votes. Ignoring that this behavior is incredibly racist, but lets not mind that.

And yet people wonder why I might call Obama an ideologue. You have to be pretty far out on loony land to pull the crap he has.

We ignore the political ramifications at our own risk. Dems are actively trolling in prisons for votes, why shouldn't they troll among illegals for votes?

The administration is actively denying reports that it's at least considering massive legalization of illegals without congressional approval. Let's hope that's true.

I'm a moderate conservative for the record. This could be relevant to the following:

And the conservatives pander to the ultra-religious, even though the cons may think the ultras are *ing crazy.

Same concept, different crowds: gimme votes.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

So, Scooby points out that 20 years later people still haven't gotten justice through the courts and your solution is to use the courts...
Yes, my solution is through the courts. It's imperfect, but it also protects us from the insanely arbitrary and potentially dangerous solution of appointing an unelected person to dole out money to "the deserving".

You and scooby want immediate gratification at the expense of the balance of power between the three branches of our government. You are essentially saying you want the executive branch to carry out a mission that was meant for the judiciary. By extension, if a state disaster occurs, we'll have governors compelling companies to establish funds and then they'll appoint unelected people to pay out the money there, too.

Don't either of you see the possible abuse here? Politicians appointing unelected and unaccountable people to handle vast sums of money demanded from companies that screw up to compensate alleged victims... hmmm, no, no possibility of something going wrong there.

How easily you compare convicted felons to Americans whose only crime is strong religious belief. Evangelical Christians--pretty much the same as murderers, rapists, pedophiles, etc. Surely you engaged in gross and grotesque oversimplification here.

I completely agree. Robin hood is great for stories, not so great for constitutional republics.

No, I'm saying that all politicians beg for votes, and beg for votes that at least some part of the country think are illegal/crazy/undesirable/etc.

If one wants to thump that Bible like whack-a-mole, fine with me. That's their choice, and if that makes them a stronger person, so be it. I'm happy they found a purpose in their life.

If Obama wants to pander to the illegals, that's his right, too. I may disagree with it (and I do), but that's what he believes in.

Either way, we as voters also have the right to vote who we want into or out of office. This information from both sides of the spectrum influence our vote. Information is power, no matter how you slice it.

In your world, evidently, this political "outreach" is all morally the same. Not in mine.

It's the same because (in my eyes) the pols are breaching their morals, and the morals of their constituents, to get votes to get elected into or stay in office.

The path is different, the result/goal is the same. It's sad.

As George Will once said: "Chicago politics, like Chicago baseball, isn't for the squeamish." So I agree with your final conclusion, but sucking up to criminals, IMHO, isn't the same as sucking up to Bob Jones. We'll just have to respectfully disagree on this one.

No problem. I'm a fan of certain means to an end result, and you are too. Where that line is drawn, that's different. Glad that we could talk about this, rather than go at each other's throats. Something that is missing in today's society. :)

I'm much more mellow after a couple of Crown Royal/7's. :)
