Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Honestly, Ely is a nice area and all, but if you can jump across the border into Quetico it's that much better, IMO... Much less "touristy".... Having done both, the Canadian side just seems to have fewer people, and the people in there are much more serious about the outdoors... Quetico doesn't allow motors either... Also I don't believe that you're really isolated from electronics totally in that area any more... I mean, Ely is like 15 miles from the Canadian border, and I think they get cell service now... It's not like we're talking about Houghton here :p
I have no interest in going anywhere that doesn't allow engines.

I once had a black bear right outside my tent with the nearest person about a mile away across the lake.

Sugartime

That was played on every radio station every hour of the day for weeks. And they were frequent guests on every variety show on television-and in those days there wer a ton of those shows even though we had only 4 networks.

Dorothy McGuire-of the McGuire Sisters age 84 http://news.yahoo.com/dorothy-mcguire-mcguire-sisters-dies-84-172408088.html Most here are too young to remember them as pop singers back in the 50's. But they were top of the charts during that era.(Her sister Phyllis probably made more headlines from her relationship with Sam Giancana:eek:).

Was she 1,2,3 or 4?

Apparently my humor isn't as obvious as I thought. It's a screen-shot of an SNL bit in which there are 4 sisters that regularly appear on Lawrence Welk, with one of the 4 being not very desirable.

I've been having that problem lately. Ah, the "lovely" Lennon Sisters. Wunnerful, wunnerful.

Stan Freberg did a great sendup of Welk:

Only 3. Dorothy, Christine, Phyllis. The fourth face in that photo may be Barry Manilow.

Of the 3-Phyllis was probably the hottest looking. There is an interesting story about a relationship with Dan Rowan (of Rowan and Martin fame) and the reaction to it by Sam Giancana. The way Rowan described it-you can be made to feel very uncomfortable if you are too friendly with a girlfriend of a top mafia figure.;)

Momo (another resident of my home town) also found time to pimp for POTUS with the stunningly beautiful Judith Campbell Exner. It wasn't long after Momo's name came up in congressional testimony as being part of the repeated Kennedy efforts to clip Castro, and his pending testimony before the Church committee, that Sam wound up very dead. As did Johnny Roselli, the other mobster involved in "Operation Mongoose." Sam was shot up close and personal in his basement as he prepared sausage and peppers. Roselli's body was found in a 55 gallon drum, floating off Miami Beach.

There is considerable speculation that the guy who clipped Momo was Anthony "the ant" Spilotro (another resident of my home town). Momo had helped to advance "the ant's" career, which included a couple of dozen murders. And probably would have allowed "the ant" to come into his home. Joe Pesci's character in "Casino" was based on "the ant." And both "the ant" and his brother were murdered and buried in a common grave on an Indiana farm owned by a Chicago mobster. Kansas City had nothing to do with it.
