You've lost credibility as soon as you said 'legitimate.' For every expert that says one thing there is another expert who refutes it. My family has seen firsthand the listing of a Covid death that most likely wasn't one and the health care workers in my family have seen the labeling of Covid deaths because of some symptoms not results. Those are not talking points. If anyone has a political agenda here it is you. My wife and I have worked through the entire pandemic out in the public and in her case face to face with actual Covid patients some of whom died. A complete lockdown is just as crazy as no restrictions at all. We need a balance here and if you take away everyone's livelihood there will be nothing left to go back to for many.

Sorry but, you actually can't find a "another" legitimate expert regarding this virus to counter every actual legitimate expert's opinion about any significant difference of opinion about any of the controversial aspects of it. I don't have time right now but, in the next couple days I'll respond with a list of the various disagreements about the virus; how it spreads, how best to limit that spread minus a vaccine, whether pursuing "herd immunity" without a vaccine makes sense, whether health care systems/individual doctors are labeling deaths as Covid that really aren't to increase profits, and any other significant debate/disagreement. I'll then list articles/commentary from as many legitimate experts I can find that support my opinion on each of those topics and, we'll see how many articles/comments from other legitimate experts that you can present that will refute the ones I provide. I'll guaran-f-ing-tee you your list will be FAR SMALLER than mine. My guess is, once you see my list, you won't even attempt to counter it.

As for my "political agenda"... For the record I have voted for the following people for president...Reagan in 84', Bush in 88', Perot in 92', wrote in Colin Powell in 96', Bush in 00', wrote in Powell again in 04', McCain in 08', then Obama in 12', and McMullin in 16'. I also served 20 plus years in the military, and owned a small business for 15 years. I had always considered myself center-right politically. However, after the last four years, I acknowledge that I now view the Republican Party as a legitimate cult who only care about protecting the 1%'s ability to maximize their already bloated wealth. The actions (or inactions) of Trump's administration are literally responsible for the deaths of of over 200,000 Americans. Especially when compared to how other democracies (Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Canada and others) have faired in their responses. He is a literal war criminal and should be tried as such. Come on over to the "Cafe" and get yourself educated. You might be surprised about what you didn't know, just like I was.

To be clear, I'm not advocating the type of "complete" lockdowns of the spring. Although you're going to see some of those come back. However, canceling hockey or any other youth, high school, and college sports if they truly can't be played without contributing to measurably higher community infection, doesn't meet the definition of "complete lockdown". Also, as many in our country have argued since the first Covid relief package was passed back in March, we could do what a number of other industrialized democracies have done and do monthly UBI for every adult below a certain wealth threshold until we have a vaccine. Yes, pay people to stay home. Even that great bastion of "socialism", Mark Cuban advocates for this. So, to close, for every point you and others who don't think we can "shut things down" make, I have an equally intelligent (usually far more so) point that says we can.

I will not try to refute all your upcoming comments simply because I don't have time not because I can't. I am too busy working during this crisis and am often going to sleep by 7pm. However here you are comparing apples and oranges between countries. The United States is a highly mobile country and with densely populated centers much more so than Austrailia and Canada you try to compare us to. South Korea and Taiwan border on China and needed to insulate themselves from the threat that originated from nearby China. The 1% you talk about is now mostly from Amazon, Facebook, and the Silicon Valley billionaires, hardly friends of Trump. That liberal talking point is fast becoming old. Your past votes do not portray your current agenda which is clearly in line with the hate cult that the Democratic Party has become. I am not a Republican either but I do know more about Communism than 99% do. The agendas going through our education system have poisoned most of our youth and likely will lead us somewhat in that direction. It will takes years if not centuries to correct those mistakes. Covid has been a great cover for it too. With all the experts weighing in on what should be done they have failed to enforce the simplest and most effective way to control the spread and that is not mask wearing and social distancing but rather making sure anyone sick is isolated and kept from going out to shop or work. Employers should be encouraging sick calls instead of trying to keep their offices fully staffed. The mask wearing while a good idea is no defense against a true carrier of Covid. Most times there are outbreaks it is because of a single sick person in a crowd of people. You don't need an expert to tell you that.

Let me first say that I’m not even going to touch the COVID components of this, because the dialogue across the entire Forum, primarily in the Café, has been atrocious on all sides. So setting that aside...

(by the way, BC/HE began to touch on this and just beat me to it, but I’ll continue...)

Are you REALLY suggesting that 47% of the country, (the majority of whom folks in the Cafe consider dirt-poor, flyover-country toothless morons) are voting to ensure that people with personal net worths of ~$30M+ continue to get wealthier? Is that REALLY what you are saying? The same 1% that is probably 25-33% Democrat, including the likes of Soros and many Silicon Valley types? Is that seriously your contention?

(disclosure - I’m not a republican by any stretch)

I laughed at the "Cafe" comments because it's 99% one sided. And if you even dare offer a different opinion on something, look out. You'll get shot down by fake intellectuals (or intellectual morons) like Kepler, etc. The usual talking points if you disagree on something like ""you're racist" etc. It's a liberal think tank with no room for even slightly different views. But anyway, I've now contributed to taking this beyond the hockey element so I'll stop.

I admire your optimism, I really do.

It's been a long LONG time since the USCHO forums worked that way.

I think it's been over a decade since the overall majority of folks started to fragment into separate little program "bubbles", and shared threads started to fade away. We've definitely lost something in the process. I miss those days, I much prefer your approach, but I think that ship has sadly sailed. Sign of the times, I suppose. Good luck, I hope you can turn the tide.

Your ship has arrived back in port, Chuck. This thread is already on page 6. :-)

You lost me at UBI.

Can we somehow get back to college hockey??

No. We will be scolded for even talking about college hockey during a PANDEMIC (have you heard that we are in one?). We can only talk about how people have DIED from COVID.

To be clear - we agree.

Maybe the reason Taiwan and South Korea have taken this seriously is the fact they got hit pretty hard by H1N1 and SARS while universal masking is much more common in their society.

I think the time has come for the operators of this website to decide if they want to run a college hockey forum or a political forum. If it's the latter, then go for it but at least change the name.

And wondering if anyone besides me has noticed that the numbers of active threads and posters has shriveled--except for RPI, of course--over the past year or so. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I've always turned to sports as a break from the pettiness of life. I'm also from an age that believes in "I disagree profoundly with your opinion but defend to the death your right to hold it." Nowadays, disagreement with almost any opinion meets with invective, ad hominem attacks, and outright intolerance.

What the he*l have we come to? We need to be better than this.

Amen.

This pretty much nails it. They send your new BFF over here once in awhile to stir things up, he spouts their talking points as if they were handed down from God on high, and it always ends like this.

BC/HE also nailed a point I've made repeatedly, about how there's always an "expert" to counter another "expert", but that (and voluminous data that runs contrary to these "experts") just get ignored.

In retrospect, the best "solution" to the pandemic is to do what the Chinese Communists did ... declare victory over it in 30 days, shut down your media, leverage the outside media with not-so-veiled threats of retribution, and destroy (burn) all the contrary evidence. Even if it happens to be millions of your own people. Then blame the US, Italy and/or India. Simples.

It wasn't going to get past Page 1 until Zlax45 turned it into an hourly log of game cancellations.

One thing led to another, and here we are, several pages later.

It would be nice if the new commish checked in and showed some leadership though ...

I just shared the cancellations from Hockey East.

Minnesota football has had 40 players test positive now in 10 days. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/minnes...sitive-for-covid-19-in-10-days-002215691.html

Do we need a similar situation in Hockey East? When will Metcalf answer some questions?

This is a legitimate question, not loaded: could there be a potential choking hazard with the combination of a mouthguard and a mask?

When PC and UNH Women's hockey are wearing masks against Boston College who did NOT wear masks at UNH or home against UNH but did at Providence this weekend. None of the players have "choked" yet...

BC at UNH https://bceagles.com/images/2020/11/...=80&format=jpg
PC at BC https://friars.com/images/2020/11/28...=80&format=jpg
UNH at BC https://unhwildcats.com/images/2020/...=80&format=jpg

So are PC and UNH taking the virus more seriously than BC? Why the different standards in every rink? Is Providence College requiring masks for visiting teams?

BC at PC https://bceagles.com/images/2020/11/...=80&format=jpg

Just wondering

I thought the mask thing was already answered somewhere. Hockey East left it up to individual schools. And I am sorry but the idea of skating up and down the ice with a mask over your mouth and nose is absurd to me. We already know you want the season canceled zlax even though you refuse to say it but they are not wearing masks in college football or basketball. Why should hockey be different in that regard? As far as I know there hasn't been any indication in college football that it is spreading via on field transmission between teams. Unless you think it's some big cover up. Spare me the nonsense about BC not taking the virus seriously because they didn't wear masks while playing the actual game. You can f right off with that.

Like I said, it was an honest question. I didn't know if those teams who did previously wear them during play did or did not wear mouth guards. Take your snark elsewhere.
