Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Maine - what a turnaround in a couple of years. Don't Fire Timmay....
BC - only because they find the RS boring. They win the HE tourney.
UNH - somehow they get home ice yet again but on the slow decline
BU - the recruiting - on reputation - is MUCH better than the coaching
UVM - best incoming class in years - on the rise the next four years
NU - the program is on the rise overall but will lack scoring
Mack - can you hang a forward at the far blue line and be a true contender?
UMASS - gutted by early departures
UML - gutted by graduation - low fan expectations will help
PC - nothing to gutt. down to one fan named Jon

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Not sure about the "for years" part but they certainly were the cream of the crop last season. They certainly werent unbeatable but they snuck past Maine and put a nice little run together to win the National Championship. They certainly put on a hockey clinic in that Championship game.

in the last ten years who has been better ? 3 national championships is awful hard to beat and the team on the ice is always classy.

Does 13 years qualify as "for years?" I think so. 9 Frozen Fours, 3 Banners, 7 HEA Tourney Titles...

Since 1998 BC has been at or near the top, I consider that for years. There are some great UNH fans on here, you sir are a freakin dope

The stupid posts from you continue.

I guess they just invented college hockey 12 months ago.

They weren't "unbeatable"... duh, they lost 10 freaking games. That's real genius stuff.

I like your style. Good post. I would be inclined to swap UNH with Maine though. Ya know, like BC finds the RS boring... UNH is the opposite.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

You guys should listen to Nick, none of those guys are going anywhere. BC is the best program in D1 hockey and has been for years. Everyone else is a wannabe. The only weakness at BC is the goalie and the guy has 2 rings:eek: They don't need a goalie like Jimmy Howard, they control the game anyway

Muse is just a sandbagger :D

Wally invented the word.:p BC will likely suck ballz next season, Umile will get his coveted RS trophy (itz easy case filling stuff), and Maine will win its third NC ....oh, BU will also suck (only because Jackie has run out of supah stars) ....all will once again be right with the world.

Four trips to the NCAA Final in the last 5 years and 2 national titles certainly qualifies them as being the top program "for years" in my book, champ.

since 1998, who's been better in college hockey??

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Who's so great that's coming in? More stalbergs?

This is actually a serious question
Vermont fans can probably answer this better, but I know Connor Brickley is the headliner for their class. I'm not sure if G Alex Vazzano's coming in this year or next, but he's highly regarded as well.

Nope but funny you mention Stalberg, as the Seb had a significantly better year as a freshmen then Vik did as a freshman, he will be a top scorer for the team next year as a sophmore.

In coming recruits :

Conner Brickley is probably the most highly touted. U-18 World Cup team, 61 points in 46 games in the USHL and ranked in the 50's in the CSS report.

FHT Lenz also is a decent incoming recruit with 61 points in 53 games in the USHL

Matt White is a big question mark. He decomited from UND and quit the USHL to play high school hockey. He was a highly touted recruit, but playing HS hockey for his senior year may have hindered his development. Besides playing for his HS he is also playing for the Pittsburgh Viper Stars where he has 78p in 45g. He is ranked by the CSS in the top 100.

Those are the top incoming recruits, but the other incoming recruits appear to be a good crop, and appear to be all likely to be suited up and on the ice from game 1. Reminds me a lot of the class that left a year ago of Strong, Carlson, Lenes that all made immediate impacts.

Vazzano is schedule to at UVM next year. It of course will be Madore's job to lose, with A. Vazzano pushing him. I think it will be tough for J. Vazzano to sit as the 3rd goalie to his younger brother, but those are the breaks.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I think from the Lowell side of things, it's going to be an interesting year. What sucks overall is that once again, after all the work done to try and even out the classes, we're right back where we were when Whitehead left.

Recruit wise, our headliner is definitely Julian Melchiori. He was the first commit for this class 2 years ago, and is projected as a 2nd/3rd rounder in this year's draft. I know the coaching staff is very high on the defensemen that are coming in (Melchiori included of course). I've heard good things about Doug Carr, who was being recruited by multiple schools, in goal. From what I've heard, they're hoping he can win the #1 spot. The key will be to see if any of the incoming freshmen forwards (Thompson and Arnold being the keys) can make some noise. If they can, Lowell's got a good shot to make the playoffs. Otherwise, it's going to be a long year at the Tsongas.

What I don't get is why Blaise is doing this... I mean, I can guess why one would but every time I say it I get lit up for it. Nevertheless, I'm hoping a lot of these guys are coming here knowing that their shot is unlikely. I really don't understand all this late recruiting. Maybe he's just taking shots to see what pans out... i hope the players he brings in are aware of the situation.

Bottom line is there is no reasonable need for this size of a recruiting class unless you're just taking a ton of shots and hoping that you'll yield something good just by going for volume.

edit: is having massive single classes the only thing Blaise knows at this point? What was the make up of that Niagara team?

I'm actually guessing a lot of these kids coming in think they have a great chance to play if they earn it because there are so many spots open.
