Got Snow?

Re: Got Snow?

The Backyard update @ 4 PM
15" and growing....

Rumor is around 6 the snow will end. Shovel sessions are set for 4:30 and 6 and then probably 8 to move cars and get around them.

We've been shoveling every 90-120 minutes and have had to move around 3" at a time. My neighbors have not ventured out. I wonder how they will cope tomorrow?

Did I mention I have to fly to Boston tomorrow? :D

Re: Got Snow?

Over 18" and no sign of letting up. Even a Snow Snob would be impressed. :D

yeah... its a good storm out there... I had supposed since the CVS was open so would everything else... I'm back safely but i treked a good distance looking for restraunts... either places were shut down or over-crowded... I just wanted to bring some good unhealthy pub-food, italian dish, whatever home... something good and tasty.

Yeah, I'm whining :)

Re: Got Snow?

What did the sergeant used to say after roll call on Hill Street Blues? "Let's be careful out there." Ya'll are welcome to drop by Phoenix, we have the room.

edit: by "we" I mean the city of Phoenix.

you know, i thought about that... if this were Lowell or even Fitchburg (hometown) I'd do it in a heartbeat... this is Arlington VA where this WILL be a top 10 storm in recorded meteorological history... i don't have that same degree of trust.

Re: Got Snow?

Going out in the snow is fun! Hooray for living somewhere that I can get around without having to get in a car. :)

Re: Got Snow?

22.4" in South Jersey-this should paralyze the area for a week or two as they just do not know how to handle this stuff.

Re: Got Snow?

Between 15" and 24" on Long Island with light snow still coming down on the western end and heavy snow still falling on the eastern. The Long Island Rail Road is pretty much paralyzed and plows are having a hard time clearing the main highways due to abandoned cars. Time to go fire up the snowblower.

Re: Got Snow?

Jenny and I shoveled for 4 hours to get the cars out and free up the driveway-not that there is any place we can go-they haven't plowed any of the roads here in South Jersey. In all the years we have been here only worse storms have been in 2003, 1996, and 1978.

Re: Got Snow?

As is always the case when more than a couple of inches of snow falls, DC can't keep its above ground Metro stations open. New York does, but DC and its 'burbs can't. :(

Re: Got Snow?

Got this from a Southern whitewater boater, God love them. :D

Snowbird, NC - Disaster struck the Snowbird Community of Graham County, NC today when residents awoke to a thin picturesque layer of snow. It is being described as the worst natural disaster to hit the community since the thunderstorm that blew over Jim Tom's tent in front of the thrift store last May. Reports of anarchy and a breakdown of basic social justice continue to trickle in as residents scramble to acquire the traditional milk, eggs, and bread from local grocers in what can only be an effort to make the sacrificial french toast offerings to appease ol' Jack Frost himself. Reports of looting abound and police claim to have shot 3 people already with dozens more in custody. Area man Billy Bob Finkelstein had this to say." When I look out upon this wintery rural hellscape, it really makes me question what I know about God... and what I know about myself. I mean what kind of loving God would let this happen to a people?" Relief is expected to come some time mid-morning in the form of a big yellow dump truck but some remain skeptical of the road-salting program. "This whole 'salt the roads' thing ain't nothing but a Socialist Handout to Big Salt" one resident commented not wanting to be identified due to her delusional paranoia. "Obama just wants to take over our roads, well to that I say "KEEP YOUR GOVERNMENT HANDS OFF MY ROADS!" Another resident, Dexter Jones, expressed relief at the situation. "Well at least now we know Global Warming isn't real... I mean it's snowed nearly 2 inches and it ain't but December! Who ever heard of snow in December?" Stay tuned for updates, and may God have mercy on our souls.
