Got Snow?

Re: Got Snow?

I think we ended up with right around 15 inches for the last 36 hours or so in Green Bay. After clearing the driveway 3 times in the last 24 hours or so, I'm wishing I would have shut my mouth with the "4.5 inches tops" prediction about 3 pages ago.

Re: Got Snow?

Someone is the U.P. is going to end up with 30+ inches of snow.
The big winner for Deathstorm '09: Ironwood MI 29.5 inches.

Negaunee (where Marquette records are kept) received 24.7 inches of snow.

Now, its currently 6 in Marquette, but if you away from the lake, its close to 0. Wind Chills approaching -15. Welcome back winter.

I'll put a crisp $5 on Amasa, MI.
Amasa MI Total: 6.1 inches.

Re: Got Snow?

Good news is that with 10 - 15" of snow on the ground, Washington DC will be shut down.

The bad news is that with 10 - 15" of snow on the ground, the senators may not be able to leave the Capitol.

Re: Got Snow?

Prediction here in South Jersey is 10-14 or more if you are close to the coast. And I thought I only got these amounts up in the Adirondacks:eek:

Mom is up in Bergen County - they only have a Watch right now. However, the eastern edge of LI and the Cape have blizzard warnings for Sat/Sun.

Re: Got Snow?

Perfect amount of snow actually. Not enough to cause problems, but plenty to give the area a Christmas feel :)

Re: Got Snow?

Oh I've got some familiiarity. Raised in Chicago. One year we had a 27" snowfall and my high school didn't close.

Schools never closed when I was growing up in Canada. We walked through blizzards -- uphill -- both ways!!! :D ;)

Seriously, here in PA they close schools if there's a chance that one flake will fall.

I think the much wider spread use of buses these days accounts for the tendency to close down more quickly than in the good old days. The nightmare scenario for administrators is a bus full of kids overturned in a ditch and they didn't call a snow day.

Both my grade school and high school were in neighborhoods and within walking distance. Got a lift once and a while from the old man, usually on my own. On the day after that 27 incher, I'm sure attendance was way down. But lots of students, faculty and staff lived in the neighborhood and trudged in. If we were using buses, fuggedaboudit.

In the USAF I spent some time at Goose Bay, Labrador, where the actual airtemp occasionally got into the range of -35 with windchills of -100. That's chilly.
