Got Snow?

Re: Got Snow?

Snowball fights were "illegal" on our campus and for some reason I never really challenged this or saw an organized one happen. Obviously people through occasional ones while walking to class but during my four years at one of the snowiest schools in the country, I never saw an actual organized snowball fight.

I went to Oswego...we had 11 feet at one time my sophomore year. All the lake effect off Ontario just pounds the campus usually from December to March and sometimes into April.

They were considered "assault"

Re: Got Snow?

In Oregon, Wisconsin, about 10 miles south of Madison, we got 18 inches overnight. That's a really large snow for us, and the winds are beginning to pick up now. Down to zero tonight as well. I think winter's arrived.

The world record one up here was quite interesting, people had to wait around enough that they packed their snowballs nice and solid, and they felt just wonderful when they smacked you in the face. I can see what throwing snowballs could be considered "assault" though, because you'd end up having someone not paying attention and then some power-tool ******-bag would take a huge chunk of ice and absolutely annihilate the person in the face trying to be 'funny' followed by lawsuits and 24 hour CNN coverage, and as a result, friends just having fun end up losing out.

Re: Got Snow?

Not much snow here...4 inches maybe? Lots of it is blowing around so it is tough to tell.

My walk to school was awful, as the wind blowing over campus and through the parking lot hit me hard. The walk back was easier because that wind was behind me :)

Snow balls could be consider assault when you put a rock in the middle ;)

Re: Got Snow?

It is not nice out there. My pet phrase for the day is "vehicular douchbaggery", 'cause I saw a lot of that on the roads earlier.

Re: Got Snow?

We've got about 5-6" but now it is pouring rain. Luckily I've shoveled the walk and cleaned the car off. I still don't have the oomph to push a snow thrower more than a few feet.

Re: Got Snow?

Winds are picking up here and the temp has dropped back below freezing. I just took the dog out and I was glad she took care of business right away. I noticed there was some black ice forming on the side streets.

Still not going to beat that time I walked to my lab in a -40 windchill though.

Re: Got Snow?

20.9 inches as of 7pm, with 2-7 expected overnight, and 1-3 tomorrow/tomorrow night. Now its all lake effect so it depends where that band sets up.

Re: Got Snow?

still bad up here. blowing and snowing. heavily. the mister ranked it the second worst he's seen up here.

Must be worse elsewhere in the peninsula, probably due to lake effect. In H-town, I've been a little underwhelmed. It's windy and there's definitely some snow around, but this is a lot less EPIC than I expected.

Re: Got Snow?

Windy as hell today in MSP area, made for a cold day and crappy roads. Got stuck behind someone who wanted to do 15-20mph (in a 40mph zone) and ahead of someone who wanted to do 50mph. Whoopee.

Slipped a little, due to my style of vehicle (too light, boxy, and shortwheelbase) and the conditions (despite the 4WD), but nothing too bad at all. I've only seen 2-3 salt trucks in the last 24 hours, and I commute/live near two major highways (394/494). Those roads near where I am are not in decent condition.

On the way home tonight, saw a car, front end all smashed to hell, facing the opposite direction on the median. Frankly, dunno if s/he survived the crash, the car was in that bad of shape.

In downtown/campus Hoton it's never as bad re: snow as up on the hill. The wind does get pretty EPIC though.

Re: Got Snow?

wind is slowing down. (somewhat) I have no idea how much snow we got due to the wind. the bird bath is covered. but alot. now we settle in for some serious lake effect.
