Got Snow?

Re: Got Snow?

About 5"-20" yesterday. more base for skiing... it's getting too cold to enjoy it though. -2F to 5F ... last week it was 10-20F with a bit of fog and light snow.

borrowed from ADN... the whole city looks like that. I'm wishing for a White Christmas... The ones I used to know...

Re: Got Snow?

Just saw this at American Thinker:

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

Oh the weather in Denmark's frightful,
But the irony's so delightful,
That everywhere Al Gore goes,
It just snows and it snows and it snows.

When will Al ever see the light?
Will he ever go out in the storm?
Or does his tin hat still fit too tight?
And he still thinks the world's gettin' warm.

The conference is slowly dying,
And the moonbats are all good-bying,
Global warming has no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Re: Got Snow?

It all depends on where the snow falls-Jenny and I got snowed in up in the Adirondacks in 1993(March). We got 101 inches in 3 days. But when it was over, they trucked the snow out of our driveway and we got out and the roads were clear enough to drive back to NJ. If we get 3 inches or more here in South Jersey it is a state emergency and everything closes down. People are out now emptying the stores of all the food they can carry to stock up for the great blizzard.

Re: Got Snow?

coming your way East Coasters!

Supposed to be 10 inches here tonight. 2 inches paralyzes this place. Should be fun.

On the positive side, I was supposed to be doing extremely boring proposal work this Saturday. I will not be making that date.

That must have been the same storm that stranded a buddy in Georgia on his way back from Florida -- about 3 feet fell there.

At the same time, I was driving from Colorado to Toronto in 60 degree weather after a great week of skiing.

We had driven up to Troy for the RPI Colgate playoff series and Troy got 28 inches-one of the games was postponed. The roads were horrible. We stayed at our house in the Adirondacks and just got buried. I have pictures from that weekend-still the most snow I ever personally saw.

There was a blizzard sometime in the 90's where Albany and Boston got over 2 feet while Great Barrington, roughly in between and IINM at higher elevation, got zip. I had thought it was the huge '93 one, but maybe not.

Re: Got Snow?

As of 9:30 AM
7" and it has just started to pick up.

My son and I will be shoveling every 2-3 hours until this PM to keep ahead of this.

They just declared a blizzard warning for me (but not for Kepler).

Have fun!

We only have a couple of inches of light powder here in Happy Valley.

Re: Got Snow?

For people in the south, even the threat of snow is discombobulating. I was working at a radio station in Houston years ago and we got a new forecast calling for a 20% chance of snow. We weren't an all news station. Even so, we logged over 500 calls from people wanting to know if HISD would shut down the next day.

Well, the correct answer is, they're gonna wait 'til the first freakin' flake hits the ground before they close the 4th largest school district in the country! They're certainly NOT gonna shut it down because of a 1 in 5 chance that there might be some snow. People were absolutely freaked out.

In Baton Rouge the only snow priority is to keep the I-10 bridge over the Mississippi open, period. One year they had a little snow and Governor Edwards ordered state employees to go home early. But they didn't stagger the leave times, so all those bureaucrats were out there at the same time, and there were beaucoup d'accidents.

It doesn't take much to shut things down "down there." When I worked for Microsoft we had a rival call center in TN. We got a call from MSN saying all their calls were being routed to us because they were closing because of the weather. I looked online and saw their forecast: a 40% chance of snow, which might accumulate to one inch. A whole inch!!

Re: Got Snow?

Here in suburban Detroit we only got an inch or so of snow. Really a rather pleasant day today.... no wind, temp close to 30, and no more snow.

For all those getting dumped on, stay safe out there on the roads. It is not worth taking chances by going too fast on slippery, icy roads and highways.

Re: Got Snow?

i can't imagine there won't be work on monday... of course part of that view is related to a conversation i had with my division chief.

Any town up north would get everything cleared up tomorrow. DC and the suburbs have had trouble with less.

we'll see... looks pretty good around the apartment complex... granted its not a semblance of being cleared but the storm hasn't stopped yet.
