Re: Got Snow?

Huh. Heard it was bad from some truckers at work but this is worse than I thought (from kstp.com):

The visibility is so poor across southern Minnesota due to blowing snow, that officials want people to stay home.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation issued a "No Travel Advisory" for 21 counties: Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Dodge, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Jackson, Martin, Mower, Nicollet, Nobles, Olmsted, Rock, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, Watonwan and Winona.

The advisory warns against travel from Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon.

MnDOT is reporting near white-out conditions in the area covered by the advisory.

The area is under a blizzard warning which the National Weather Service expanded to include Dakota, Scott and Carver around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Todd Krause, the warning coordinator for the National Weather Service said, "It's a very impressive storm system, I will say it's not the storm of the century, but it will be life threatening, especially in rural areas, if you're not prepared."

MnDOT snow plows are out, but officials may pull them off the roads if conditions decline.

The State Patrol reported 345 property damage crashes, 54 injury crashes and 147 vehicles off the road statewide between 12:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Of the 345 property damage crashes, 285 were in the metro, as were 39 of the 54 injury crashes.

It's really not that bad since it's all light snow. The wind is supposed to pick up 10 knots or so, and the snow is supposed to get heavier overnight...then it'll get fun. Good thing I don't have far to go for work...

Re: Got Snow?

I really hope this isn't a boatload of overreacting. It isn't even snowing here at the moment...
I wish snow upon all. I hope Houghton gets three feet. I will be nice and hope that Marquette only gets two feet. Yes, that is me being nice, deal with it.

Re: Got Snow?

Pathetic. Everyone's discussing this like it's the storm of the century.

It's an itty bitty storm, the first one of the season.

The weathermen who aggregately are not very good at their jobs love you poeple for hyping them up. Relax... it's just some snow... this thread is pretty insulting to anyone living north of Maryland and/or Missouri :)

Seriously - what a lame discussion about a lame storm....

It's the amount of snow that's a problem around here. It's the cold and wind (12 degrees now, 20 MPH sustained wind with gusts up to 40MPH, windchill -6) which is moving around the snow really well. Of the 4-6 inches we received here, I have two-foot drifts in my driveway right now.

Re: Got Snow?

Put more clothes on if you're worried about the cold.

I agree everyone is overrated but man does that thing look awesome on the radar.
