Mclean is the rich town next to us. Every time the high school football team has a fundraiser the Karens fill NextDoor with warnings that there are young Black men and "immigrant children" roaming the neighborhood (students are going door to door looking for donations).

NextDoor really shows you the Republican base.
 
John Oliver’s segment last night was pretty good.

some of these Ivy League kids are absolutely unhinged. Video today of kids covering up posters and monitors that show kidnapped Israelis and screaming about libel and fake news

Only place I have seen it is in Chinatown in San Fran...but that is to be expected though it was still jarring at first. Otherwise I havent seen it in the US. The SO has seen it in Asia a lot obviously...

I remember when I was in school we watched a video about a girl who did a project that was being put up in a museum that was about peace around the world. She included the original form of the swastika. There was some Holocaust survivors in her neighborhood who saw it and freaked out. Instead of protesting or going to the papers everyone sat down and talked and the issue was resolved without destroying her project or ignoring the fears of the survivors. Seemed so quaint and obvious...nowadays it would be impossible.

If I was in Congress I would have voted against censure (and would have spoken up to defend her) but I would have privately explained to her why what she was saying, no matter her intent, is reckless and painful for many. Incivility and vitriol is not the answer to any of this.

When the Brits and UN created Israel, if the Arabs would have just dealt with it they’d have all their land and should be happy. Instead the Palestinians were left out to hang by the Syrians and Jordanians and Egyptians and saudis and Lebanese. That is where their anger should be directed. ;*)

sounds like the Biden admin brokered a deal to free women and children hostages in exchange for a five-day pause of hostilities.
 
Amidst the hostage releases this weekend comes the first male Israeli hostage to be released. He was taken at the music festival and is a dual Russian Israeli citizen. Apparently Putin asked for his release

"Never let a crisis go to waste."

A YEAR BEFORE Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, a document detailing plans to carry out the assault circulated among Israeli officials, according to the New York Times.

While the approximately 40-page document reviewed by the Times did not mark a specific attack date, methods of the assault aimed at overwhelming Israeli defenses around the Gaza Strip and plans to storm key military bases and cities were reportedly outlined. The document had been code-named “Jericho Wall” by Israeli authorities, and laid out a plan for an onslaught of rockets, drones intended to incapacitate security cameras and automated machine guns along the border, and gunmen to enter Israel via paragliders, motorcylces, and on foot, per the report.

Leaders initially brushed off the attack plans as too complex for Hamas to execute, the Times reported. On Oct. 7, these series of assaults in Israel were carried out and led to the death of 1,200 people and the abduction of 200 hostages.

According to the Times, three months before the attack, a veteran analyst with Israel’s signals intelligence agency warned that Hamas had undergone a training exercise similar to what was detailed in the blueprint. However, according to emails viewed by the publication, her concerns were dismissed by a colonel in the Gaza division.

“I utterly refute that the scenario is imaginary,” the analyst wrote in an email. “It is a plan designed to start a war,” she added. “It’s not just a raid on a village.”

Israel’s Channel 12 on Monday previously reported on the leaked emails from Israeli military’s 8200 cyber-intelligence unit, per The Guardian, which said the source of the warning was a non-commissioned officer (NCO).

In defense of her findings, the NCO said, “They are training, in large forces, for a big event. This is not a parade of power, this is preparation for the real thing.”
