Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Who's this new pitcher the sox got?!?

let's do the time warp again!

as clean a sheet as I've seen out of the sox lately...two pitchers? That is an average 7th inning lately, not a whole game.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

5.5 back of the Yanks for the Wild Card? Would be nice to get that number under 5 before heading to the Bronx this weekend.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Is there such a thing as an "Eff-You Home Run"? Because I'm pretty sure Lowell hit one last night.

Sucks that Youk is gone for quite a while (from what I've heard, rest of the season) but nice to have an able back-up.

It's just a jump to the left.

Ok, one of my favorite running story lines of this season is Beltre's whole "don't touch my head" thing, and VMart's continued attempts to touch it.

Also, grand slams are nice.

Theo made a big mistake not finding someone to replace Bay's production. Cameron's signing was a flop. This is probably the worst outfield concerning HR's and RBI's. They need to fix this problem in the off season with free agent signings.

I don't think they can catch up with this lineup. Head to head, I don't think they matchup well with the Yankees and Rays. Even with this line up, they struggle against weaker opponents.

Replacing Bay's production hasn't been a problem. They are 2nd in the majors in runs scored, behind only the Yankees.

I know it's different leagues and doesn't mean much, but just for comparison:

Bay 259/347/402 6 HR/47 RBI in 401 PA
Cameron 259/328/401 4 HR/15 RBI in 180 PA

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Again, it is IMPOSSIBLE to over come these many injuries. I'm almost happy that they're even in third place.

Kalish LF Ellsbury CF Drew RF seems like a good outfield for next season.

My reaction to the final out last night: "Don't drop it, guy I've never heard of!"

Agreed... Kalish is going to be a really good player for this team, hopefully as he develops, he can learn how to use the wall as the best lefties do at Fenway.

I'm not sure if this team has the bullets to make a run at the Wild Card, but I think it will be fun to watch guys like Kalish, Dubront, Bard, Bowden, and whoever comes up on 9-1 compete for a spot on next year's team.

I do think they were better off bringing up a few guys and trying to improve that way, than overpaying for hit-or-miss middle relievers at the deadline. Dunn would have been a nice pickup though.

It's going to be really interesting to see what they do with Ortiz and Beltre in the offseason.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Normally I don't mind McCarver, but he's driving me nuts today. These "strikes" Sabathia are getting on the corner are not even close. They are outside the strike zone.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Not to be over dramatic, but this was a really bad loss. You stink, Lackey.

Gotta win both of the next two now, without a doubt.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Ryan Kalish hit his first major-league home run into the Yankees' bullpen in the sixth inning Friday night, so he wasn't sure if he'd receive the ball as a souvenir. "I thought maybe they didn't know the significance of it and would throw it into the stands or something," Kalish said. Sure enough, the Yankees' relievers pocketed the ball, which was in Kalish's locker after the game.

Youk's injury : Red Sox :: Krejci's injury : Bruins

They've been battling the injuries all year, but I think this one is the final nail in the proverbial coffin.

That is pretty cool, and I would like to think that most teams would do something similar.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Girardi had the bullpen warming up at 1-0 down in the 2nd inning...

Burnett scratched yesterday but will pitch early this week.

A-Rod back yesterday after originally thought to be out.

I'd say he's taking this series pretty seriously.
