Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

V-Mart has a fractured finger.

Which is interesting, because when he got injured, it sure looked like he was writhing in pain over getting hit in the toe. After the 87th replay, I did finally notice that he was also shaking his hand.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Add Varitek to the list of walking wounded. He is on the DL with a fractured foot. The Sox have acquired Kevin Cash from Houston for Angel Sanchez.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Not sure if they can keep this up but I'm expecting a collaspe in the second half. You got an outfield with very little production, both catchers out, etc. Got to give them credit though up to this point.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

How, exactly, are the Red Sox still winning? Was Pawtucket that good?
No, the National League West and the Orioles are that bad.:)

Would be great to see them stay afloat through the AS break, then start to get people back. The disappointments -- starting pitching and defense at the beginning of the year, the bullpen, have been matched by the pleasant surprises, some from guys I had never heard of, and it looks like we could be in for the kind of excitement we expected at the beginning of the season. Almost makes me hope that Tampa doesn't fade. Even with the terrible first month, Sox are 5 up in the wild card against everyone except Tampa so if Tampa fades, a lot of drama could be missing from the rest of the season.

So now Youkilis has "right ankle pain" and some guy named Niuman Romero is batting cleanup.:(

How's this for a lineup:

1. Ellsbury LF
2. Pedroia 2B
3. Martinez DH
4. Youkilis 1B
5. Lowell 3B
6. Hermida RF
7. Cameron CF
8. Varitek C
9. Lowrie SS

SP Beckett
SP Buccholtz
RP Delcarmen

Pretty good team, maybe better than the team on the field. :(

I think they have something north of $44 mil on the DL. That is more than some teams' payroll.

They're just faking to play games with the Yankees' fans.

Edit: I seem to have struck a nerve.

SteveF - choke on a twinkie you pathetic piece of ****

The Tampa Rays > the Pawtucket Red Sox

Sigh.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

I dont have any faith in Okijimia, nor should Francona.

Bowden has been moved to the pen in AAA and would be a great trade piece for some bullpen help.

If they moved him to the pen in AAA, I'd think they'd use him as bullpen help sometime soon, not trade him for bullpen help.

That is their intention. They are moving him to the pen to get him on the relievers throwing schedule and then they intend to bring him up and use him in relief.

long explanation from Jacoby today...regarding injury...didn't grab link from ESPN but it is on there. If what he says is true then they didn't do a good job diagnosing his injuries and he should be cautious. I don't have a problem with his actions...but do wonder why the sox seem to have more than a few issues with team doctors vs. other doctors.

Wendell Kim is the lead doctor?

being nitpicky; that was an error. plain and simple. i hate how much leeway outfielders get in misplaying a ball.

 i thought redsox outfielders were incapable of committing an error now that jason bay was allowed to leave?

I wouldn't have guessed that the win would come against Lee, but there it is.

Nice job by Lackey to keep them in it. Tough call for Texas, letting Lee finish the 9th inning of a brilliant game or bringing in the closer. I'd probably have done the same thing. Glad it worked out for Boston, though.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Good thing they're going to start getting players back from injured reserve (knock on wood), b/c it looks like the wheels are starting to come off.

Buchholz and Beckett aren't a bad way to start...
