Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

speaking of which, i call shenanigans on the snapplebon to the bereavement list.. which mysteriously came with no explanation and coincided with the necessity to call up boof bonser before they lost him for nothing.

of course snappelbon is due back tomorrow and bonser blew his opportunity anyway and will probably be DFA'd or traded for nada. of course, JP isnt the first person i would think of to be involved in such a gamble, but using the reserve lists to do extra roster moves is a very duquette-move

Let me make sure I get this...

Sunday Delcarmen hurts his back and is unavailable,
Monday and Tuesday's starters are Dice-K and Wakefield - two pitchers who have historically needed bullpen help
So Francona and Epstein decide to place their closer on the bereavement list?

That's brilliant! Please share your thoughts with us about the Ellsbury Conspiracy. They're just benching their fastest player because they're afraid he'll steal too many bases?

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

i'm pretty sure delcarmen pitched tonight, clownshoe. so he is fine. they also sent atchinson down and called up reddick the other day. so obviously they werent too concerned about bullpen depth facing cleveland.

your point about wakefield and dicek is not only wrong, but also counter-intuitive. if your starters get blown up and 'historically' need 'bullpen help', you probably aren't going to use your closer in that game anyway - unless he needs work and there is an offday coming up.

ellsbury is a pussbag. no conspiracy there.

all in all, nice try though. maybe you'll have better luck in the usc or nba thread.

Last night was Thursday. He was injured Sunday. There were a few days in between. The point is, if you're going to pull a stunt like that, you'd pick the guy who already was hurt, not the superstar. But that would be too obvious. This is clearly an attempt to rile the Yankee fanboys by placing Paps on the bereavement list and has nothing to do with the fact that his wife gave birth to a child six weeks ago.

Calling me names may make you feel cool, but it makes you look foolish. Next you'll insult my mother.

Nor too concerned about making roster moves without putting someone on the bereavement list.

But no, I'm sure you're right, that they made something up to make a roster move. Hopefully they filled Pap in, so they can get their stories straight.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Looks like they're taking out last night's frustration on old Jamie Moyer.

1 IP, 1 HR, 6 2B, 8 ER, ~60 pitches. Yikes.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

I wasn't completely depressed about this team's ability to score runs this season, but I still had some concerns.

So it's without any patting-self-on-back that I mention: With back-to-back routs of Philly, Boston has become the top scoring team in the league.

Who'd have guessed?

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Per Cafardo:

Phillies starters Moyer and Blanton last two games: 5 innings, 22 hits, 18 earned runs.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Yeah, the Phillies are having trouble scoring runs, but who'da thunk that Atchison, Delcarmen, Okajima, Ramirez, and Papelbon would hold them to two runs?

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Random thoughts:

I thought the Phils had come out of it. Bases loaded to open the game, no outs.
And they find a way to strand all three. ::Shakes head::

Beltre doesn't hit cheap HRs. The one he just massacred would have been an impressive HR even in Safeco.

<s>Hopefully the Phils put it together once they leave Fenway. </s>
Hopefully the Phils keep it together after they leave Fenway.

Went to Friday's game, Victorino had to be lifted due to the whiplash from balls zooming past and then hitting the wall. He got more rebounds than Lamar Odom did.

Never seen a game with so many hits and runs end so quickly, 14 runs, 27 hits, out by 10pm...the Red Sox scored the quickest 9 runs I've ever seen in the first 2 innings. There were hardly any balls nor swings and misses...even Pedroia's out was a double if the 3B doesn't make a great stop.

Have to say, the people coming in late and those heading to the concessions every single inning were bothersome. They should require you to stay down below until the change of innings. Call us crazy but we like to get there, grab a dog and a beer and watch the game...half the people apparently came to eat and drink and only watch the game as a diversion.

Marry me.

It just seems to get worse every year. I was at the game two weeks ago. This girl gets up to go get something right as the inning starts. She sat there during the whole break and then gets up when the inning started. The pitcher was going into his windup when she tried to walk in front of me and I wouldn't move. I told her to wait till he threw the pitch.

I'm going on Thursday. Who is projected to start?

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

That stuff happens to me everywhere these days. Friday I was at the Padres game and people SHOW up I think in the 5th inning and the bases are loaded, two outs, two strikes...and 4 old people show up and want to go to their seats right away.

Freaking Papelbon.

I know that Bard isn't ready yet, but if Papelbon were to get hurt for a week or two, Bard getting some more experience as a closer would be a nice silver lining....

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Pedroia to the DL. Sox call up Angel Sanchez from Pawtucket. Bill Hall is expected to play 2B for most of Pedroia's absence.

This is obviously a move to get under the skin of Yankees fans.

Re: Fun Prevention: Red Sox 2010 season thread part 1

Martinez went down today, so thats Pedroia, Buccholz, V-Mart in San Fran. Lets hope we never go back there again soon.

Pedroia is out 4-6 weeks. No word on the others, though Buchholz doesnt seem to be too serious but you never know with knee injuries.

Just curious...is Ellsbury going to play again this season or what?

Buccholz has a lower Hamstring injury and will most likely miss his next start.

V-Mart has a fractured finger.
