Div III NCAA Rankings

Re: Div III NCAA Rankings

In my personal opinion, Elmira should get in over Middlebury. The pool C's would be Elmira, River Falls, Stevens Point. Yes Elmira lost to Midd twice, but is Middlebury really that good. Its been pointed out numerous times that Middlebury has struggled throughout the year against weaker competition(including last weekend)...Elmira's the only team to beat Plattsburgh this year and be competitive with them in all of their games.

I know i'll never convince you Eastern Folks that the western teams are better...so we'll just have to wait and see how it shakes out.

"Is Middlebury really that good?" Better than Elmira. Twice. On the ice. That, to me, is the deciding factor.

I was talking to an Elmira parent after the game yesterday and he believed they had to win to get in. I think it's UWRF, UWSP, and Middlebury. That said, the "other site" posted three different brackets to cover all possibilities. They don't have any idea what this committee is going to do.

Re: Div III NCAA Rankings

My gut feeling says 5/3 split with Elmira and Middlebury both getting in.

Lake Forest to Norwich, Elmira vs. Middlebury, UWRF vs. St. Thomas and Williams at Plattsburgh.

Not a good prediction Prez, but congrats on 2/3 of Osmirwich getting in! Any notion on the game times in Kreitzberg and Stafford?

Re: Div III NCAA Rankings

Conferences and teams receiving automatic qualification:

ECAC DIII Women’s East Hockey League -- Norwich
ECAC DIII Women’s West Hockey League -- Plattsburgh State
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference -- St. Thomas (Minn.)
New England Small College Athletic Conference -- Williams
Northern Collegiate Hockey Association -- Lake Forest

The three at-large selections are Elmira, Wisconsin-River Falls and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Re: Div III NCAA Rankings

WOW - Middlebury's decision to sit 2 kids for disciplinary reasons and Conn College's ensuing win results in them not getting a tournament bid.

How does the WIAC get 2 of the 4 home ice spots?? Seems a bit much.....I think if I was a St Thomas fan I'd be pretty upset...

Pay attention to the whole season and then comment

And apparently Mandigo's lesson was taught...

Well, the men aren't using the place so I think 7:00 pm on Saturday.

Honestly don't significantly care about WSP vs St Thomas, but here are your relevant facts (I don't need to follow the whole year to see the same results at the end the NCAA committee sees):

- West PWR has the order 1. WRF 2. St Thomas 3. WSP
- WRF thumped WSP 5-1 in the conference final - not exactly a top 2 West performance by WSP to end the season in the most important game of the year
- WSP ends the season (25% rule) 4-1-2 including 2 ties against Superior - again not exactly top 2 West material
- ST ends the season 6-1 - should have been a better markup than WSP
- ST beat WRF in the second half of the season when it actually matters (WSP had 3 cracks at them and best they could manage was one tie)
- WSP beat St Thomas twice earlier in the year, but that didn't help Middlebury who beat Elmira twice this season, so for consistency not sure why that matters

For some reason you people never believe me!

I think when only 8 teams make the tournament the NCAA looks at the conference tourneys as the starting point. If you can't make it through the first round of your tourney than you shouldn't make the NCAA's.

A few things....The west PWR don't mean jack.
Yes River Falls beat Point 5-1. But River Falls had 2 empty net goals late...so thats really a 3-1 loss.
Last time I checked the whole season matters
Stevens Point was 2-2-1 against River Falls during the season not 0-2-1.
Stevens Point beat St Thomas twice...

If you go to the NCAA ranking page...they actually have the west comparison posted dated 3-10-14.
The two teams win/loss record is a wash UWSP .750 UST .759
Stevens Point has a much higher SOS than St. Thomas---remember the WIAC teams beat up on the MIAC.
Stevens Point has a better record against ranked teams.
St Thomas wins the last 25%

So thats 2-1 in favor of Stevens Point.

The 3 WIAC teams were the class of the west this year...yes even Superior (10-1-2 nonconference). I full expect River Falls and Stevens point to move on. I almost wish they would play eachother in the semifinal so we were guaranteed a west team in the Championship game! lol

- The whole season sort of matters, but the last 25% clearly matters significnatly more. Otherwise, you can't explain Elmira over Middlebury (which I'm not complaining about, but if you count the whole season equally Midd beat them twice) - even the Elmira folks thought they had to win yesterday to get in.
- Where did you find the 3/10 NCAA rankings on the NCAA website? They generally don't publish the last rankings to avoid any issues with not following the rankings exactly in selecting the teams. Are you sure it wasn't the 3/4 ranking with 3/10 as the current date?

http://web1.ncaa.org/champsel_new/exec/pdf/staticpdfrank I suppose it says "generated 3/10/14 but at 6:17am. But when I click on the link for the East it brings up informaton from 3/7/2011. Its not the rankings but the "data."
