They have it as AQ's: Plattsburgh, Norwich, Williams, Lake Forest, St Thomas (just going by highest remaining seed in the tourneys)

Then surprisingly Pool C's: Middlebury(currently outranks Elmira), River Falls, Stevens Point (Elmira loses comparisons to these two)

The NCHA tourney is going to be tough to predict the winner...any of the 4 could do it...but that will be the only team making it in. I really, really, really, really want St Thomas to win the MIAC...so they probably won't.

Re: Div III NCAA Rankings

Maybe one game will be enough to move Falls and/or Point ahead of MIddlebury...let might already be.
In the same breath, maybe one game will be enough to go below Middlebury.

With the current statistics RF and Midd are tied 2-2 in the comparison--but River Falls is miles ahead of Middlebury in the last 25% of the season.
Stevens Point beats Middlebury 3-1.

Re: Div III NCAA Rankings

Well Autobids are decided...

ECAC-E: Norwich
ECAC-W: Plattsburgh
MIAC: St Thomas
NCHA: Lake Forest
NESCAC: Williams

Pool C's
River Falls--definitely in.

Now it comes down to Stevens Point, Middlebury, Elmira

According to my calculations
Stevens Point wins the comparison against Elmira (Elmira wins win%, SP wins SOS, Results against Ranked, and they are tied in last 25%)

I'd assume that Middlebury will stay ahead of Elmira in the rankings as the categories Middlebury was beating Elmira in last week still favor Middlebury..so it wouldn't make sense for Elmira to move ahead of Middlebury.

The Middlebury/Stevens Point comparison is pretty close. 2-2 with Stevens Point winning results against ranked and last 25%. Middlebury wins SOS and win%, however those are close.

What its going to come down to is does the committee think a Middlebury team that lost in its quarterfinals deserve to be in over Elmira who made it to their conference championship game.

I'm going with the 4-4 split...1) the numbers favor Stevens Point, 2) it will be cheaper for the NCAA

I can't see taking Elmira over Middlebury when Middlebury beat them twice head-to-head. Plus we know it's better to lose to an unranked team as Middlebury did than to lose to a ranked team as Elmira did. I guess Stevens Point, River Falls, and Middlebury.

Re: Div III NCAA Rankings

To heck with what the calculations show. I'm going to go with RF, Middlebury, and Elmira. Elmira loses five games by a total of six goals, all to top ranked teams. Point plays 15 games against three teams, so how do you really know how good they are?

You are trying to inject logic into a process (any NCAA process) that has none. I agree with you on Elmira. I'll breathe a sigh of relief if we've seen the last of them. They are a hell of a team.

A couple things you can go off of... Stevens Point is 5-2-1 against other teams that will be in the NCAA tournament (St Thomas, River Falls, Lake Forest)
Elmira is 3-5 (Williams, Norwich, Middlebury, Plattsburgh) It doesn't matter if they are 1 goal losses or 10 goal losses a loss is a loss. ( SP lost 5 games by 11 goals(4 EN))

Elmira is 3-5 against teams ranked in the east rankings...Stevens Point is 8-4-1 against teams ranked in the west rankings (11-5-3 if you include UWS--is it still once ranked, always ranked?)

Those 3 teams were also 42-5-6 against all of the other teams that they played

And you didn't even include that Elmira was 1-2 against Plattsburgh, who I believe is also in the tournament!

I meant Platty where I listed Elmira...clearly Elmira didn't win or lose games against Elmira :)

Nice....I missed where you listed Elmira. My red colored glasses just noted the omission of Plattsburgh!

In my personal opinion, Elmira should get in over Middlebury. The pool C's would be Elmira, River Falls, Stevens Point. Yes Elmira lost to Midd twice, but is Middlebury really that good. Its been pointed out numerous times that Middlebury has struggled throughout the year against weaker competition(including last weekend)...Elmira's the only team to beat Plattsburgh this year and be competitive with them in all of their games.

I know i'll never convince you Eastern Folks that the western teams are better...so we'll just have to wait and see how it shakes out.
