Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Saw it once before. It was in Oswego my freshman year. The meteorology majors crapped their pants in excitement about it.

We had that in Superior a couple times, and actually my first year in Az while living in sedona. There was lightning there too. 2" of snow and no school the next day!!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Thats a great idea gives us something to read on slow game days

Perfect...we had a snoweater come through with strong westerly winds over the last few days which pushed the temperature up to 10 degrees C. Current temp is -11 C with light snow, barometric pressure is 103.65 kPa and falling... how about you'se guys? :)

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

You get the thundersnow? That's just plain weird.

I drove right thru it in the Adirondack hills last night. Erie. In the dark snowy roads and then all off a sudden you see everything light up. Then the heavens opened and it snowed like crazy.

We were once in a 'thunderice" back during the ice storm of 1998 in Montreal. It was during the day, so not the same visual effects as observed last night.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Make up game... NU vs Plymouth State tonight... with 3-6" forecast, I hope they don't bail out on us again.

Not that this is a highlight by any means but with reference to last Saturdays game ( NU vs. Southern Maine), I was not particularly impressed with Coach Lauziere, where at one point he is clearly heard yelling to one of his D in such a way, to basically "get off the ice" because you suck. Everyone around interpreted it the same. Seems to me he should be disappointed with himself, assuming he's the chief recruiter. One can only imagine there's a lot of pressure to produce wins but maybe it's time for Johnny boy to take a pill, relax, smell the coffee....

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Where are the eastern folks this weekend? RIT over Elmira...hardly a peep....Bowdoin knocks off Amherst and no Obserbear sightings??

Congratulations to the Polar Bears and Coach O'Neil on their victory over Amherst yesterday in snowy Brunswick! Following an un-focused effort in Friday's loss, the team played under control and stayed out of the penalty box. They won the battles on the boards and were able to physically deny Lord Jeff forwards getting in close to goalie Connolly. Amherst shots were from long range and when there were rebounds they stayed out of reach. Bowdoin scored twice in the 2nd. Merrill won the puck on the boards deep in the left wing corner and fed it behind the net to Ludy; she faked coming out on Hu's stickside and then wrapped around inside the gloveside post and Hu's skate. The second goal came when Campbell got a pass to Merrill on the left point; her long shot handcuffed Hu and it snuck under her arm landing in back of her and Holtz popped it in. Amherst was able to break thru late in the game when Zukas shot from the left point rebounded to Clegg at the top of the crease, stickside of Connolly; Clegg's shot was then saved but the rebound was caught, mid-air, and flicked in by Hanlon's forehand, beating Connolly gloveside. Kudos to refs Little and Parsons for letting the game flow and their professional effort!
This marks the first Bowdoin win over Amherst since their first ever loss to the Lord Jeffs (and a goalie named Elek) in the NESCAC semi-final in Middlebury back on 3/3/07. The Polar Bears now are in the hunt for the #3 seed in the up-coming NESCAC playoffs. They face Trinity, in a game which may determine that 3rd place, next Saturday in Hartford.
GO U BEARS!!!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

We didn't win by 13, not much to talk about :p

You mean it was too close for comfort. :D

Looks like things are setting up nicely for RIT to gain homefield. However their road will have to go through either PSU or Elmira, but unlike PSU and Elmire, RIT is as close to a lock as you can get at this stage for getting a tournament berth.

Sure, but that's what we thought two years ago, too. On the other hand, the #1 seed in a tournament with three powerhouse teams has a big advantage, and hopefully we'll have that for the first time this year.
