D3 scores 2014-2015

I don't think the field is ever a true 1v8 - 2v7 - 3v6 and 4-5.
So Adrian to Elmira - they very well could be the true 8th seed by then. Maybe #2-3 in the west, thanks to a soft schedule but overall a case can be made for #8.

The field is picked by the criteria. No ifs or buts about it.

However, once the field is actually picked, the committee has always bee advised to avoid intra-conference matchups and to keep flights at a minimum which alludes to how we will hardly ever see a true 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 etc.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

See the weekend predictions on USCHO.com? The columnist is predicting an Oswego/Elmira split (not out of the realm of possibility), but he can't believe Oswego is only picking up votes in the poll and isn't ranked, and he expects to see both teams in the NCAA tournament. Derrick, don't you want to do some writing again?

Maybe he expects Oswego to win the ECAC-West tournament and cause all sorts of problems

I'm glad someone finally brought up Oswego because I don't think they are that good. They have been in the top 10 and close for awhile but they haven't beat anyone! Not one win against a team with a winning record. Elmira will beat them by 5 goals in both games this weekend!

whats goin on in the MIAC?

When you look at the games and the shots on goal, tough night in the net for GAC, UST and SMU.
Bethel hits the net 9 times and 3 go in. EN to make it 4.
UST is down 5-1 with 2:00 to play and score two PP goals to lose 5-3 to St. Ben's?
Concordia loses to St. Kates after going on a nice run.
Strange night...

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

I don't follow D3 closely at all, but is there any chance a Western team might win the national championship this year? I've always found it a bit odd how the West (WCHA) has dominated D1 post-season play vs. the East which has totally dominated D3. I would guess this has to do with the West having fewer numbers, with its top talent being more spread out, vs. the East with its greater population and talent being more concentrated and drawn to its top, tradition-rich teams.

Would this be a reasonable explanation for the disparity between D1 and D3?

I think thats possible. A lot of the top players from the midwest end up going D1 and there's not a lot left over. There really is only girls high school hockey in Wisconsin and Minnesota in the midwest...michigan too I suppose(but my guess is most of those go east). So you have 20+ colleges pulling from those two states. Superior used to be mostly Canadian, I think that has dwindled to about 1/3 of the team now.

The way its looking River Falls will be the most likely to win it all from the west, Gustavus is fading, Adrian is a toss up. The scary thing is that with the way it is set up, if there is more than 1 upset in the conference tourneys, River Falls might not even make it.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Plattsburgh scores with 6.3 seconds left in the 2nd to go up 3-1 over Middlebury

Gustavus ties it up with Bethel 2-2 late 2nd

Elmira 5 Oswego 0 at the end of the 2nd

Gustavus goes on a tear to end the 2nd period...now up 4-2. Were down 2-1 with 9 to go in the 2nd.

This game is sooo much faster paced then the Middlebury/Plattsburgh game.

Makes sense, that's what I kind of figured. You'd think there would be some players from Illinois that would want to play in the Midwest, plus the occasional girl from the Dakotas and Iowa.

After a quick scan I saw 28 girls from Illinois on the WIAC, NCHA, and MIAC rosters. Oddly, none on Lake Forest's team, the only college in illiinois, most were on CUW or Marian.

I saw one player from Iowa, a couple from the Dakotas, a couple from Alaska, Colorado, Arizona

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

A goal for both teams in the third Now Plattsburgh 4 Middlebury 2 about 5 minutes left.

Elmira with another one, now 6-0 over Oswego

Plattsburgh won it 4-3....it would seem the "committee" will be making at least one change on Tuesday !

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

River Falls and Eau Claire tied 1-1 after the 1st. Shots are 18-1 in favor of River Falls. Blugolds are 1/1!
