...and that's a shame, given the rich tradition Canada's played in the success of both programs.

Pretty sure heard the Canadian anthem in the past at some D1 games. Not sure if there are rules around it.

Unless you are actually playing a Canadian team, you don't play the Canadian anthem. Pretty simple.

I believe UWS did it as a way to honor their numerous Canadian players. They played no one from Canada.

Teams can do what they want during their regular and Conference post season. As soon as NCAA's start there is no more "other" anthems, just like banners and noosemakers ect ect. While I don't agree 100% with this, keep in mind there has been a big movement in foreign players. To play Devils advocate is it then fair to play just the American and Canadian anthem at that point?

I think that's the thing. To play the anthem of the opposing team is a well accepted practice but to play the anthem of the students of every country represented on the ice by one or both teams is not practical.
