D3 scores 2014-2015

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Congrats to Coach Houle and his Plattsburgh Lady Cards! That's four National Championships since 2007...not too shabby!! And congrats too to the faithful in Plattsburgh who continue to support women's hockey there....1,245 at the championship game and over 500 for the third place game. The locals there have always been staunch hockey supporters!

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Congratulations to Plattsburgh State on the improbable repeat. Losing their Laura Hurd winning goaltender, plus a good deal of scoring and an All-American leader on the blue line. We thought the team would be really good, but I didn't think they'd go all the way this year!

Also congratulations to the Elmira Soaring Eagles. They were the only team to beat Plattsburgh this year, just as Plattsburgh was the only team to beat Elmira this year. It took five games for these two teams to (marginally) separate themselves. We look forward to renewing our rivalry in 2015-2016!

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

When will the ref's and the NCAA put an end to teams banging their sticks on the boards before the drop of the puck???
40.1 - A player, coach or non-playing person shall not bang the boards with a stick or other instrument.

Elmira has done that for years....it's annoying I agree! That's probably why they do it. It's something they do in tyke hockey. A two-minute minor might stop it.

Actually very common in Quebec Hockey. Teams like St-Jerome were infamous for that, and a lot of good hockey players came out of the women's program over the years. (Rougeau, Cournoyer, Thibault, Auger Leclerc just to name a few)

It's still annoying and against the rules. And has nothing to do with how many good players come out of the system. Just saying....:D

Well if it's in the rule book "against the rules" then it should be a penalty. Where in the rule book is this rule stated?

Rule 40.1

The rule book also calls for players to face center ice when being announced prior to the anthem. Not to turn around and face their teammates.

Seems like a pointless rule. Isn't pounding on the boards with your stick pretty common?

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Not at levels above tyke!

I've seen men's teams do it - especially in March. Not a lot of it, but some. Definitely a few more on the ladies side. I want to say even the Cardinals have done it.

As for facing center ice, what's the point? They should be able to face their teammates during introductions. I'd love to see the referee with the b**** to call that penalty to open a game...

I guess I've seen it done quite a bit when an injured player gets up off the ice or something like that, their form of "clapping"

I've definitely seen the Plattsburgh men do it to try and get the crowd into it after timeouts or at the beginning of a period. I guess I can't even guess why the NCAA thought that needed a rule...
