D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Gusties clearly with more speed, and looked in control once up 3-2, and one moment of lapse may come back to haunt them.
GA with bad misplays by D on all three goals allowed. I was going to disagree with 'jackets about choking, but maybe that comment was clairvoyant.

I agree with that....right now Sullivan is really ****in off these gusty girls

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Wow...Elmira scores on a breakaway with 40 seconds left....**** Gusties :)

Elmira won this game on timely goal scoring.....First goal late in first, shorty to send the game into OT late in the third and then the game winner with under a minute to go in the first OT.

Stars of the game (IMHO), Sullivan for Elmira and Hjelm for Gustavus.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

I think the bigger choke of the year is Norwich.

Not sure how you would come up with that. Both Norwich and Gustavus got eliminated in OT by teams that made it to the final. Both won their league title. I'd say give some kudos to these teams for a great season. In a one game showdown between two good teams anything can happen.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

There is an old coaching proverb - "Potential is synonymous with getting your *** kicked." In September Norwich was a prohibitive favorite to run the table. At least four good teams were in their way and Plattsburgh justifiably rose to the top. Middlebury earned their last two wins by great perseverance and great coaching. Norwich knew they had a championship team but clearly fell far below their potential.

The flip side here could another old proverb "The game is played on the ice and not on the internet" to which Middlebury and Elmira certainly believe tonight. Both are worthy of being in the championship game tomorrow.

Considering at has ONLY BEEN DONE ONCE, I don't think it is fair or standard to label a team as a favorite to "Run the table" at the start of the season.

As you said, several good teams stood in the way, and Norwich did not run the table. As a matter of fact they had losses or ties along the way vs several of these good teams, and that started right from the get go in the open tournament back in October. My point was, give those other good teams some credit rather than labeling teams that lost in OT to a good team a bunch of chokers.

I watched the whole game tonight, and sure there were mistakes made on both teams that led to goals, but this was a hard fought game by both teams, and each team had chances to win it. This one could have gone either way. To me a choke is if you have a 3-0 lead going into the third and let it slip away. Not when you lose a game that was close the whole way in OT.

Lastly, the best team on paper does not always win, quite often they do not.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Gustavus clearly let up at the end feeling they had the game won. Which of course cost th the game. If they hadn't done that. They win...I call that choking

I'd say that ventures into creative writing. They made mistakes with the puck, as they did throughout the game, but at no point did I see "let up" which implies a lack of effort. Credit Elmira for always taking advantage and finishing those chances.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! It says a lot about parity in the DivIII ranks. It's also a reminder of why they play the games. It should be a great finish to a great season for the DivIII ladies. May the best team win tomorrow!

Could be that the D3 West/East omens continue for D1, in the reverse, or at least I sure hope that it proves to be true...
