D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Neither is better than the other. Seeing the team you're backing raise the trophy, seeing their friends and family burst with pride... the feeling is the same across Divisions and should be equally appreciated and respected.

Agreed! D1, D2, or D3 whether it be hockey, lacrosse, soccer, etc. Seeing someone you know/love lift the trophy is just as amazing! Seeing the joy on those faces is something you never forget!

And more importantly, the players lifting the trophy will never forget.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

The D1 vs D3 conversation has been discussed at length on these boards and all points above certainly worth remembering. The message I was trying to convey was that I incorrectly assessed a value of D1 being better hockey than D3. And while skills and speed wise you could certainly make that argument, the tournament this weekend showed me a lot of things. 1. The gap between D1 and the D3 teams at the tourney is certainly not as big as it used to be. 2. These girls play with as much commitment, heart, passion and intensity as D1'ers. and 3. It all matters. Neither is better than the other. Seeing the team you're backing raise the trophy, seeing their friends and family burst with pride... the feeling is the same across Divisions and should be equally appreciated and respected.

Well said Skate fast!! For the love of a great sport!

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

I agree that he's a good coach, and I was not trying to call for his head or anything dumb like that. I just think maybe we have to acknowledge that since winning the championships, that the program has a history of choking in the biggest of games: conference championships and NCAA tournament games (other than third place games where there's no pressure). I'm saying we should temper our expectations of the program until they can seem to get this growing monkey off their back.

Scott, the problem to those of us that have been following the program since its inception is that you are saying since Houle won two national championships he hasn't won any national championships. Kinda ridiculous to say. Women's hockey has several very high end teams. Plattsburgh generally plays all of them twice. This year they went 12-1-1 against the USCHO year ending top 10. Yes, it's a shame they lost to Middlebury (the third time they played them), but it doesn't make Houle a bad coach or the players incapable of winning "the big game". As for their league, they have always had two or three of the top teams in the country. For some of those years, they lost to an Elmira team that needed to win the tourney to get into the NCAAs.

I'm sorry, you're just not going to convince me that there is anything to be concerned with in Plattsburgh's program. Frankly, I'd guess that people that root for other teams are probably getting a chuckle out of your "concerns" with Plattsburgh's team and coaching.

I figured I'd throw this in here...has anyone determined if the Pool B is back in play next year?

It is my understanding that unless there are a certain number of teams (and I think the number is more than 6 or 7) from conference(s) with out a auto bid there is no Pool B. The four (4) WISC schools will go in to the C Pool with every other school from Conferences with A Pool bids. The WISC coaches never would have left the NCHA if they were not going to have some way of getting in to the NCAA's.

You need to have a minimum of 7 division 3 teams in your conference to have a Pool A autobid into NCAAs.

But with the 3 independents in the east....Franklin Pierce, UNE and Stevenson....that makes 7 pool B eligible teams right?

Franklin Pierce is D2 and UNE and/or Stevenson maybe joining existing conferences.
