D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! It says a lot about parity in the DivIII ranks. It's also a reminder of why they play the games. It should be a great finish to a great season for the DivIII ladies. May the best team win tomorrow!

considering this is the 7th time Gustavus has lost this game...I wouldn't call them mighty :)

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Could be that the D3 West/East omens continue for D1, in the reverse, or at least I sure hope that it proves to be true...

It would be nice to see the Gophers finish that elusive perfect season!!! I'm rooting for them...

Interesting side note for tonight's final: Plattsburgh found out how hard it is to beat the same team 3 straight. How will Midd fare with the same opportunity against Elmira?

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Gustavus clearly let up at the end feeling they had the game won. Which of course cost th the game. If they hadn't done that. They win...I call that choking

Define letting up? Choking I think goes to the team that all along knew they were hosting the FF, and claimed to good, and did not even get to the their conf champ game.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

My nominee for stupid question of the year:

Plattsburgh Women's Hockey is now 2-4 in NCAA games since winning their last title, not counting the meaningless third place game last year, and 1-5 in their last ECAC West Championship game appearances.

The question is, despite four Coach of the Year awards does Houle have a problem coaching the big game? They always seem to get sloppier as the lights get brighter.

Plattsburgh seems to play 10-12 "big games" every year. They beat (and tied) Norwich, beat Middlebury twice, beat Bowdoin, beat Elmira three times, beat Manhattanville twice, beat Amherst. Basically in your question, you've discounted every NCAA game they've won (both National titles and the meaningless third place games) to make your point. So let me see if I understand you correctly, Plattsburgh is winless in all of their games they didn't score more goals than the other team?

I will take Kevin Houle as coach any day of the week.

Kevin Houle is a championship coach plain and simple. Any team that wants to be a champion would hire him instantly with zero reservations.

Oooo good one. Superior was good, not great. You have to be great to make it this far. Superior was a long shot to make the final four

So were Elmira and Middlebury. But, as of about 7 PM CDT today, they will be the only two teams still playing...

BTW, the Patriots were unfairly criticized when they went 18-1 but just happened to lose the 19th game. IMHO it is equally unfair to criticize Platty for losing last night. Those girls had an amazing season and should hold their heads high when they take the ice today. I just hope GAC shows up and gives it their best rather than mailing it in as GoJ seems to think they have done the last 7 times.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

I suppose I can finally break my silence here! I've been part of the stat crew at GAC for four years (yes, the crew that gojackets seems to have such a problem with)... What a heartbreaker last night. This was definitely the best Gustie team I've seen in my time at GAC. Thought this was finally the year they broke through. That said, I cannot believe how god awful the defense played last night. On the other hand it would have been nice if Hibbard had been able to stop just one of Emira's breakaways during the game, too. Just an all around disappointment.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Boy, that was a disappointing game. I thought GAC looked pretty uninspired, especially compared to yesterday. I'm looking forward to tonight, though. I'm gonna go with middlebury 4-2.

Didn't they outshoot the number one ranked team 25-11, that hardly seems uninspired to me. Congrats to all of the ladies in the tournament!

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

They came out and outshot PSU 12-1 in the first. Them got into penalty trouble. I thought they looked pretty good the first 27 minutes.

Yes, but lost 4-0. Especially after the first period, that can break your spirit. Out shooting a team 12-1 and ending the period down 1-0. I thought they could have played better is all. I'm still happy with their season, just would have liked to see a better finish for them.

I would have loved to see a better finish as well! That third place game is a tough one to get up for, especially after both teams playing had not lost all year. I give gustavus credit for coming out playing hard that first period.

I agree that he's a good coach, and I was not trying to call for his head or anything dumb like that. I just think maybe we have to acknowledge that since winning the championships, that the program has a history of choking in the biggest of games: conference championships and NCAA tournament games (other than third place games where there's no pressure). I'm saying we should temper our expectations of the program until they can seem to get this growing monkey off their back.

Oh man...Scott...yer a bone head! Just sayin!

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Meanwhile, back on the ice...
Pretty back and forth 1st; both teams with some good looks; Midd had a couple of great ones early, but Elmira has made Jones work more as the period went along.
0-0 after 1
