10 shots and 3 goals??!! Will someone who watched this game please explain this to me...

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Good solid win for St.A's last night against UMass Boston, 3-1.
Katie Picarello showed her skills in her hometown. She now has 94 career points with four games left to reach 100.
Courtney Winters with 38 points is tied for the point leadership in DII/III this year and has 97 career points.
Rosemary Giarusso, already the St.A's career point leader( 130), played a great game
It isn't every day you can have 3, potential 100 point scorers on the same team.
Kudos to the girls for playing great team defense !

Congrats to Kati (Pic) Picarello on joining the 100 point club!! She also set a team record with 9 pts. (3 goals, 6 assists) in yesterday's win over Plymouth State.

Manhattanville 3 - Norwich 2 Final
10 shots and 3 goals??!! Will someone who watched this game please explain this to me...

I was there on the Norwich end in the second and Fisk was left out to dry on both goals in that period.....the third period goal, even though I was at the other end, looked like the only one that she could have had....M'Ville wanted it more and played with more heart and made the most of their limited opportunities. Norwich is an under achieving team and I question their character....never saw any life out of them until the final 10 mins. when they realized that they were about to lose.....Early departure for a team like this in the Playoffs, may not win the ECAC East, and will definately not go far in the NCAA's......Remember you heard it here first.

Totally agree they are underachievers, given the talent on the squad, but that said, all they need is a 6 game winning streak once the playoffs begin and ...
You seem to have insight into things Cadet, is there that much dis-satisfaction with playing time and roles? Will a player like Manhartova return next season? She has dressed for 17/24 games. Injuries? Parsons is the only player to dress for all 24 games (Charron, Lortie and Invernizzi have played 23). You look at the trouble say a Middlebury has had with a short bench and injuries and a larger roster looks pretty good, but there do seem to be problems.
Do you really think Manhattanville will be able to beat Norwich twice at Kreitzberg? I just don't see anyone else strong enough to knock the Cadets off in an earlier round in the ECAC-East, and even if they lose, they are almost a lock for a "C" bid.

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Jackets-I see your still ****in people off. How do you mange to keep your rating in the green?

Who am I ****in off? Because everyone loves me deep down :)

Oh I remember now...some overly sensitive schmuck who has reading comprension issues...yes that is my fault...I apologize.

No insight other than the games I have seen over the last 5 years or so, when travel allows.....I know some of the relatives of past players and having gone to the school helps. Just think that this team will be in for a short run in the playoffs....they are just too much of a group of underachieving individuals. As far as who stays and who goes....I am sure there will be unhappy departures but I would also think that Coach Bolding and his staff will have some decissions to make as far as possible "mistakes" that may have been made by maybe over-estimating some of the "talent" that was brought in.

I've only seen them play a few times this year but I would agree with that sentiment. They play like they're entitled which is sad but I still think they'll win the ECAC East. Obviously I cannot comment on the goals because I was not there, but I must say I've never been impressed with their goaltending to begin with. It seems like when they play any team that can get a good shot off they can't rely on them. But like I said, who am I to comment on a team that I don't follow that well.

Pretty sure that 6 out of the 7 games Lucie has missed are due to being away playing for the Czech national team.

PSU women roll through Neumann

Press-Republican

ASTON, Pa. — The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team fell victim to a first-period deficit against Neumann University Saturday night.

However, the No. 1-ranked Cardinals (22-0-2, 14-0-1 ECAC West) kept their 24-game unbeaten streak alive by responding for five unanswered tallies in a 5-1 come-from-behind win on the road.

Angela Gilmour helped the Knights (9-14-1, 6-9-0) get on the board first at 15:03 of the first period with the assists credited to Lynsey Nakamura and Megan Russelo.

Plattsburgh, though, finished the opening stanza with a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal.

“Despite the one-goal difference, we played well in the first period,” Cardinals coach Kevin Houle said. “We outshot them substantially. Their goalie made some good saves, which gave them confidence, but we were getting a lot of chances.”

Allison Era recorded her 11th goal of the year, tying the game at 1-all with just 42 seconds gone in the middle period. The marker occurred on the man-advantage.

“We never panicked down 1-0, but played loose once we tied the game,” Houle said. “Our team was moving the puck and playing well at the point. We just kept grinding it out.”

Emma Rutherford and Chelsea VanGlahn extended the differential to two at 8:44 and 10:27, respectively.

Plattsburgh registered the all-important three-goal lead with 5:25 elapsed in the third period when senior captain Teal Gove notched her 20th of the season.

“After we got a three-goal lead, it took the wind out of Neumann’s sails,” Houle said. “They played hard, and I thought we got a little sloppy in the third.”

VanGlahn concluded the game’s scoring with her second of the contest at 12:22 of the third period, which solidified the victory.

Goaltender Sydney Aveson was credited with the win in net, stopping 18-of-19 shots faced. Her overall record improved to 18-0-2. Shannon Donnelly was tagged with the loss in a 29-save performance.

Plattsburgh finished 3-for-7 on the power play, while Neumann was 0-for-4.

With the win, the Cardinals clinched the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Division regular season title and first-round bye in the conference playoffs.

“Obviously, we had a leg up on Elmira (College) with our two-game sweep, so I wasn’t nervous about it,” Houle said. “It was good to take care of business and clinch the

Yellowjackets 10, Finlandia University 1
Box Score

The Lions from Finlandia University enter this game as the last leg on a disappointing season to put it nicely. They came out of the gates with two straight shots on net, hoping there was a slight chance to pull off an upset and avoid a winless season. Unfortunately for them, those two shots were the highlight of the contest as the Yellowjackets dominated by a score of 10-1.

The juices started flowing for the Yellowjackets at 2:41 of the first period when Hayley Epema (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) fired a slap shot from the top of the left circle. The shot found its way to Mara Teschendorf (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North)’s stick and into the net to make the score 1-0. The Yellowjackets didn’t capitalize again until 19:04 of the first period when Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) fired a wrist shot from about ten feet back to make the score 2-0.

The flood gates continued to open for the Yellowjackets in the second period as they added four more goals. Chelsey Wierschem (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) was next in line to score for the Yellowjackets when she poked a shot in front of the net that fooled Lion goaltender Breanna Hynes to make the score 3-0 at 4:44 of the second period. Wierschem went on to notch another goal for the Yellowjackets at 7:41 of the second period when she took a wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle to make the score 4-0. De Kezel added another goal at 11:28 of the second period when she skated around a few defenders up the middle and let a wrist shot go into the net to make the score 5-0. Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) closed out the scoring for the second period at 12:44 to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 6-0.

The Yellowjackets added another four goals in the third period. De Kezel put the finishing touches on a hat trick to widen the Yellowjacket lead to 7-0 at 3:33 of the third period. Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) was the third Yellowjacket in the contest to have a multi-goal game when she had goals at 9:26 and 11:51 of the third period respectively to make the score 8-0, then 9-0. Leading scorer Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) capped off the scoring for the contest when she poked a shot past Hynes to make the score 10-0 at 12:35 of the third period. However, the Lions avoided a shutout on Siera Hache’s goal with :04 left in the contest to narrow the Yellowjacket lead to 10-1.

Megan Leikkari (Thunder Bay, Ontario) tallied nine saves for the Yellowjackets while Hynes came up with 38 stops for Finlandia University.

The Yellowjacket (15-7-2, 12-6-1 NCHA) will wrap up the regular season tomorrow (Feb. 16th) against Finlandia University at Wessman Arena. Game time is at 2:00 p.m.

PSU women end reg season with shutout

Press-Republican

ASTON, Pa. — The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team skated to a 4-0 victory at Neumann University Sunday afternoon in ECAC West play to wrap up its unbeaten regular season at 23-0-2.

The program accomplished the same feat during the 2006-07 season, eventually capturing the first leg of its back-to-back national championships.

Much like Saturday’s game, Chelsea VanGlahn provided two goals to spark the No.1-ranked Cardinals’ (23-0-2, 15-0-1) offense. The forward scored the lone goal of the first period from Giovanna Senese and Sara Lanni at 18:29 to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

“We didn’t play very well in the first period,” Plattsburgh coach Kevin Houle said. “We had the lead, which is good, but we gave up too many opportunities.”

The nation’s top power-play unit flexed its muscles Sunday, scoring the last three goals of the game and finishing 3-for-7. Allison Era tallied a power-play goal at the 7:06 mark of the second period to put the Cardinals up by two.

“(Neumann) ranks third in the country in penalty minutes per game, and we had a lot of opportunities,” Houle said. “We took advantage of a few 5-on-3 chances and spent a lot of time on special teams. We had five kills, too.

“These types of games typically get you out of sync, but we had good pressure from all three of our lines. We put together some good shifts and owned time on attack.”

Teal Gove scored her team-leading eighth power-play goal at 7:41 of the third period to add to Plattsburgh’s lead. VanGlahn rounded out the scoring just 1:22 later with her second of the afternoon from Alyssa Parke.

Plattsburgh goaltender Sydney Aveson stopped all 20 shots she faced to earn her seventh shutout and improve to 19-0-2 on the year. Neumann’s Shannon Donnelly recorded 42 saves in the loss.

The weekend sweep gave Plattsburgh State a 15-0-1 record against conference opponents and secured the top-seed for the ECAC West playoffs. Elmira College will enter the postseason as the second seed and also receives a first-round bye to the semifinals, which Plattsburgh will host. The official tournament seedings and schedule will be released by the ECAC West today.

“This season as a whole has been great, and it’s a great accomplishment to finish unbeaten,” Houle said. “Everything is out the window, though. All playoff teams are 0-0-0 and the next game could be your last. We have a week off and hope to take advantage of it by getting prepared.”

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Platty has had 8 players with 100 plus points and 9 players that scored over 50 goals in their career. Of those only two managed the feat of four goals in a game, just showing how rare this feat is.

The Platty leading scorers list looks like this:
Gibson........ 120 Goals ... 226 Points
Blanchard..... 87 Goals ... 177 points
Clarke.......... 76 Goals ... 152 points
Bowler......... 71 Goals ... 120 points
Moberg........ 59 Goals ... 133 points
Taylor......... 58 Goals ... 139 points
Gove........... 58 Goals ... 114 points * (Active, SR)
Moreau........ 58 Goals ... 109 points
DiJulio......... 52 Goals ... 88 points

So only two of these nine career Platty points/goals leaders have scored four in a game.
The other three that managed that feat don't have quite the same career stats (See below).
Stewart is a only Sophomore, and with her current numbers she could very well join the elite club of 50 Goals/100 Points.

Stewart...... 21 Goals ... 47 points * (Active, SO)
v Glahn....... 21 Goals ... 32 points * (Active, JR)
Kozar.......... 19 Goals ... 43 points (Only played 2 seasons, second season only partly)

With the regular season in the books thought I update this list.....Teal Gove has moved up to 5th in the all-time goal scorers list.

The Platty leading scorers list looks like this:
Gibson........ 120 Goals ... 226 Points
Blanchard..... 87 Goals ... 177 points
Clarke.......... 76 Goals ... 152 points
Bowler......... 71 Goals ... 120 points
Gove........... 68 Goals ... 131 points * (Active, SR)
Moberg........ 59 Goals ... 133 points
Taylor......... 58 Goals ... 139 points
Moreau........ 58 Goals ... 109 points
DiJulio......... 52 Goals ... 88 points
