D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Hard to say Fisk is the backup for Norwich. She was injured in practice before the East/West Classic at the start of the season and the Cadets were lucky enought to have Carrier (transfer from Ohio State) on their roster. Fisk started the Bowdoin game at the end of the 1st semester and looking at the boxes for the past weeks there is a rotation with Carrier and Fisk. Never a bad problem to have 2 capable tenders! Perhaps Prez can speak to this issue?

Fisk and Carrier are 1 and 1a currently. As far as I know there is no clear cut #1.

Holtz scores SH breaking in 1x2 and cutting to her forehand in the high slot and wristing a rocket beating Hazlett up gloveside...PB 2-0

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

Final at Watson 6-1. Shots 27-16. Big news is the Holtz hat trick; she now has 10 goals and 12 assists on her senior season; if she gets hot it will be just the right time for the PB offense going into the playoffs

Re: D3 Game Updates 2012-13

You mean the kid with slightly better numbers than Peters?

She has slightly better numbers yes...but against Eau Claire, St Kate, Lake Forest (loss), Marian, 2 vs Point, loss to St Norbert and tie vs gustavus.

Peters played against all those teams too, except Point obviously. I'm not sure if it really matters, but to be thrown into the Gustavus game with little high quality game experience and get the tie is pretty good.

Really? Did either of these goalies ask to have their skills/game experience evaluated against each other? Can we please keep this thread positive?

I didn't realize we were being negative. I was pointing out the fact that it was a good showing by Leikkari.

And I'm pretty sure there has been much worse evaluations on this thread often...don't get your panties in a bunch!

What...I hope they did. It's college hockey, they should be evaluated against each other and want to have their skills/game tested.

123 you got to remember though that we are discussing girls here, who are insecure and cant handle being "evaluated.". Not fully grown women who play a hard, violent sport....oh wait.

Plattsburgh State women blank Potsdam
Press-Republican

POTSDAM — The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team posted a 6-0 shutout over Potsdam State in an ECAC West game at Clarkson’s Cheel Arena Sunday.

The No. 1-ranked Cardinals (21-0-1, 13-0-2 ECAC West) proved to be too much for the Bears (8-13-2, 4-9-1), finishing the day with a 46-15 shots-on-goal advantage.

Plattsburgh scored the game-winning goal early on Emma Rutherford’s ninth of the year from Teal Gove and Shannon Stewart at 5:46 of the first period. Two minutes later, Ali Vakos added her first of two goals with an assist from Chelsea VanGlahn to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

“We scored a couple of early goals, and we continued with a lot of pressure,” Plattsburgh coach Kevin Houle said. “Their goalie played well. We had a lot of time in their zone and had several good opportunities. They had a couple good chances as well, but (Sydney Aveson) stood tall.”

At 16:55 of the second period, VanGlahn’s unassisted goal put the Cardinals up by three.

The Plattsburgh tacked on three more goals in third period. Stewart scored a power-play goal at 2:04, which was followed by Alyssa Parke’s sixth of the season at 4:14. Vakos found the back of the net for the second time Sunday at 16:11 to round of the scoring.

VanGlahn contributed a goal and two assists for the Cardinals, while Vakos tallied two goals and an assist. Stewart and Gove each added two points.

“When we got that third goal late in the second, I thought that goal took the wind out of their sails,” Houle said. “Going up 3-0 into the third period is more comforting than a two-goal lead heading into the third.”

Aveson stopped all 15 shots faced for her sixth shutout. Potsdam’s Jen Conophy recorded 40 saves in the loss.

The third line consisting of VanGlahn, Vakos and Giovanna Senese finished with a combined three goals and five assists.

“That line has given us a spark as of late,” Houle said. “They give us high-energy shifts and are comfortable playing with one another. They’re starting to find the back of the net.”

Elmira College hopped over Plattsburgh in the ECAC West standings with a weekend sweep of Oswego State. The Soaring Eagles own a one-point lead on the Cardinals with 28 points, but Elmira has completed the conference portion of their schedule.

The Cardinals have two ECAC West games remaining in the regular season schedule, which come next weekend at Neumann College. A win or a tie will secure the ECAC West regular season title and the top seed entering the playoffs. Saturday’s game at Neumann is set for 7 p.m. before the regular season finale Sunday at 2 p.m.

“After the Elmira sweep, we knew we had a lot of big games ahead of us,” Houle said. “I know we lost a point to Utica, but it was a tough game, and that’s going to happen. We want to finish with a couple wins. Our team has played loose and relaxed all year long. We’re hoping for a strong weekend.”

Yellowjackets 4, UW-Stevens Point 2Box Score

After spoiling Gustavus Adolphus’ perfect record on Tuesday night, the Yellowjackets had no excuses coming into this contest. After spoiling a perfect record at this point in the season, the Yellowjackets knew they were capable of playing with any team in the country. They carried over Tuesday night’s strong play into NCHA play, defeating UW-Stevens Point 4-2.

The Yellowjackets carved the Pointers up from the drop of the puck as they scored the first four goals of the night. Alexis Reid (Dryden, Ontario/Dryden) provided the Yellowjackets with a spark on special teams when she skated from the top of the left circle and fired a wrist shot that beat Pointer goaltender Hillary Drake to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead. Reid’s power play goal came at 9:25 of the first period. The power play continued to not let down the Yellowjackets when Bailey Lane (Armada, Mich./Armada) juked out a few defenders in front of the net after taking a pass from Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior). Lane would put the exclamation point on the power play with a goal at 11:11 of the second period to make the score 2-0.

The women in black and yellow still had plenty of fight in them as they exploded for two more goals in the second period. Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) led that fight with a shot that caught Drake off guard that gave the Yellowjackets a 3-0 at 13:47 of the second period. Drake was yanked in net in favor of Janna Beilke-Skoug after the goal, but it wouldn’t be enough to save the Pointers. Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba) tagged Beilke-Skoug with a goal at 14:27 of the second period to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 4-0.

The Pointers answered with two goals of their own in the third period. Megan Nickelson notched a power play goal at 12:17 of the third period to make the score 4-1. Hailey Rock provided life for the Pointers on a goal with :10 left in the third period to make the score 4-2.

Megan Leikkari (Thunder Bay, Ontario) stopped 22 shots for the Yellowjackets while Drake and Beilke-Skoug teamed up to make 28 saves for the Pointers.

Good solid win for St.A's last night against UMass Boston, 3-1.
Katie Picarello showed her skills in her hometown. She now has 94 career points with four games left to reach 100.
Courtney Winters with 38 points is tied for the point leadership in DII/III this year and has 97 career points.
Rosemary Giarusso, already the St.A's career point leader( 130), played a great game
It isn't every day you can have 3, potential 100 point scorers on the same team.
Kudos to the girls for playing great team defense !
