D-I Championship Belt

Re: D-I Championship Belt

When does it go West for the rest of the season?

Looking at the schedule:

Northeastern get it on 10/28 :p
BC then get it on 11/08
BC hold it till they play Connecticut on 2/6 :mad:
Connecticut play only HE opponents until the HE tournament

... so it looks like it goes to the NCAAs with the HE tournament winner. SCIENCE.

Worst case scenario is that it somehow ends up in the hands of the final opponent of an ECAC team that doesn't make the conference playoffs but does win its last regular season game; then it wouldn't make it to the NCAA tournament at all.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

Maine (alol) has taken the Belt with a 4-2 win over BU on October 25th.

I want to see it passed around Hockey East in such a way that BC never actually gets to play for it. Maybe the league will declare you to be the mandatory challenger some time.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

I forgot it was up for grabs today. I was already planning for NU to play for it on Tuesday...

Looks like NU may get to play for it in a week: Maine's schedule is UConn, NU, Brown. Personally I'm rooting for Brown to take it next.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

Bringing the sequence up to date …

Wisconsin held the Belt through sweeps
versus UMD on Jan. 25 and 26
and at Ohio State on Feb. 7 and 8.
Minnesota won the Belt on Feb. 14 in Wisconsin.
The Gophers retained it:
Feb 15 at Wisconsin;
at home against UMD Feb. 21 and 21;
at home versus St. Cloud State Feb. 28 and Mar. 1;
in Bemidji Mar. 7 in the WCHA semi versus UMD;
in Bemidji Mar. 8 in the WCHA final over North Dakota;
at home in the NCAA quarterfinal against BU on Mar. 15;
and in Hamden in the NCAA semi over Wisconsin on Mar. 21.
Clarkson seized the Belt for the summer by defeating Minnesota in the NCAA final in Hamden on Mar. 23.
St. Lawrence started the 2014-15 season by grabbing the Belt from the Golden Knights on Oct. 3 in Canton.
Clarkson recaptured the Belt the next day in Potsdam.
The Golden Knights held the Belt for a series at Providence on Oct. 11 and 12.
Boston University earned the Belt with a win at Clarkson on Oct. 17.
BU defended the Belt
with a win at Clarkson on Oct. 18
and a win at Maine on Oct. 24.
Maine took over the Belt with a win over BU on home ice on Oct. 25.
The Black Bears held the Belt through a tie at Connecticut on Oct. 31
and a win at Northeastern on Nov. 1.
Brown wrested the Belt away from Maine with a home win on Nov. 7.
The Bears defended against a Maine reversal on Nov. 8.
Cornell ended Brown's run with a win in Ithaca on Nov. 14.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

BELT UPDATE: The belt heads west. Minnesota Duluth knocks off Cornell twice last weekend. Shannon Miller is wearing the belt now. Bemidji State could be next :)

Yikes! Pursuit of Excellence could then stash the belt away in Kelowna, BC if they could pull off the upset next Wed. vs. Bemidji State.

No. Exhibitions are not sanctioned contests, so the Belt is not on the line.

After the last few weeks from BSU it would be a whole lot more than an upset if PoE beat BSU. The belt may be traveling a few miles West this weekend & a well deserved trip it is.

I agree with this ruling.

In the old days what would have happened is that even if PoE managed to win the game, at the next televised event Wally Karbo, while being interviewed by Marty O'Neill, would announce that AWA president Stanley Blackburn had ruled that BSU v. PoE was not sanctioned and therefore not an event at which the belt could pass. PoE would be required to have a representative appear on camera to sheepishly deliver the belt back to Karbo and some representative of BSU, I am thinking someone like Steve Sertich.

OH Gosh, you're old enough to know Wally Cardboard and Marty Bigdeal! If you remember matches being held at the Calhoun Beach Club Ballroom I'll know you are really old!

The activities at the Calhoun Beach Club were TV tapings and therefore could only be considered "matches" in the very broadest sense of the term. They were barely even exhibitions. But, yes, certainly I remember those.

Mr. O'Neill used to frequent the same 3.2 joint where I occasionally whiled away an evening or six. He lived in the neighborhood and would drop by for the joint's signature "Coney Island" dogs. He was always a cordial and interesting conversation.

In this particular instance perhaps PoE = Sodbuster Kenny Jay?
