D-I Championship Belt

Re: D-I Championship Belt

BU defended the Belt
with a win at Clarkson on Oct. 18
and a win at Maine on Oct. 24.
Maine took over the Belt with a win over BU on home ice on Oct. 25.
The Black Bears held the Belt through a tie at Connecticut on Oct. 31
and a win at Northeastern on Nov. 1.
Brown wrested the Belt away from Maine with a home win on Nov. 7.
The Bears defended against a Maine reversal on Nov. 8.
Cornell ended Brown's run with a win in Ithaca on Nov. 14.
Cornell retained the Belt by defeating Yale on Nov. 15
and taking care of Colgate on Nov. 18.
Minnesota-Duluth seized control by upending Cornell in Duluth on Nov. 21
and again on Nov. 22.
Bemidji State became the Belt holder for a day by topping the Bulldogs at the Sanford Center on Nov. 28.
Minnesota-Duluth decided it had been too hasty to part with the Belt and reclaimed it securing a series split on Nov. 29.
UMD kept control of the Belt after tying Ohio State in Columbus on Dec. 5
and earning a victory over the Buckeyes on Dec. 6.
The Belt will reside in Duluth over the holidays, and the Bulldogs will make their next defense on Jan. 10 when the Beavers come to town.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

What's the ruling on shootouts for WCHA league games? Can The BELT change hands based on a shootout win or should that be considered a tie, like it does in the overall record and for NCAA seeding/ranking purposes. ARM, you have been appointed Commishioner of The BELT and TTT has been named Deputy Commish. Just don't let BC ever touch the thing because you'll have a hard time ripping it out of TTT's kung fu grip.

I have every confidence that commish ARM and Deputy commish TTT will state that the BELT does NOT change hands on a tie;)

Correct. The Belt is a national trophy. Shootouts determine a conference point only, and are ignored at the national level. In the case of a tie, the team holding the Belt before the contest retains possession.

I'm a little annoyed that the belt went back out west because now I'll have to wait until March for BC to get it.

And yeah shootouts are ties, naturally.

Sequined jacket...check. Mythical D1 Championship Belt...check. I was just looking at UMD's schedule to see when The Belt might change hands again. My guess is the North Dakota series at the end of January. North Dakota wins the first game and they tie the 2nd game. NoDak gets out of Dodge with The Belt.

Congratulations to whoop87 for absolutely nailing it. NoDak gets out of Dodge with the Belt.

Which means that the Belt will be on the line next weekend in Grand Forks, Minnesota v. UND.

Catching up on 2015 to date,
Bemidji State once again became Belted for a day bye defeating UMD on Jan. 10.
Minnesota-Duluth had remorse over its decision to hastily yield the Belt, and stole it back from the Beavers before they could board their bus for Bemidji on Jan. 11.
The Bulldogs protected their hardware through a series versus St. Cloud State on Jan. 17 & 18
and by sweeping at Minnesota State on Jan. 23 & 24.
North Dakota was unimpressed and decided to accessorize its wardrobe with the Belt by dropping UMD on Jan. 30
and retained it by tying the Bulldogs on Jan. 31
and dumping the visiting Gophers on Feb. 6.
Minnesota took it back to Minneapolis after getting a reversal at Grand Forks on Feb. 7.

Bemidji State claimed the Belt for a day by stopping Minnesota on March 7.
In addition to a WCHA Championship, Wisconsin earned the Belt on March 8 by defeating BSU.
The Badgers held the Belt with an NCAA win over Boston University on March 14.
Minnesota took the Belt back with a Frozen Four defeat of Wisconsin on March 20.
The Gophers retain the Belt over the summer by virtue of a victory over Harvard in the final on March 22.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

The Gophers lost the Belt to North Dakota on Oct. 30th.
Ohio State had it for a day in mid-November then lost it back to North Dakota the very next day.
Minnesota Duluth wrestled the Belt away from NoDak in a tough 1-0 victory on Nov. 21st.

UMD hosts Harvard twice this weekend. Here's hoping the Crimson bring the mythical Belt back to Beantown for a bit.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

On a related note, the four time holder of the AWA Championship belt, Nick Bockwinkel, passed away on November 14.

RIP to a great champion, the kind of champion so great that he turned his back to you because you DID NOT DESERVE to see him from the front.

No question that Bockwinkel was a great champion, but he owed much of his success to his manager, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, who was sometimes known to slip a foreign object into Bockwinkel's hand at just the right time. We should all have such a manager in our corner.

Crimson los to UMD on Friday and beat UMD on Saturday. I think this means the belt will be at Bright Arena for now

Re: D-I Championship Belt

The Belt is now is NJ of all places. That is just plain wrong. Somebody please get it out of that state :)

Princeton snagged the mythical belt with their OT win over Harvard this past weekend. Penn State is up next for the Tigers.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

Championship Belt update:

Princeton had the belt until this past Saturday when they lost it to Harvard.
Harvard apparently partied a bit hard in celebration of regaining the belt and only held it for a few days.
BC thumped Harvard on Tuesday and plans on keeping it through the end of the season.
Somebody named Amanda came knocking and wants her belt back :)
