D-I Championship Belt

Re: D-I Championship Belt

I survived, but people were telling end of the world jokes like there was no tomorrow.

:) But more importantly, the Belt survived to live another day - and we still have it! :D

Re: D-I Championship Belt

I knew it was shiny, but I didn't realize that the Belt was alive. :eek:

Re: D-I Championship Belt

Minnesota retained the Belt through series with Colgate (9/28 & 29) and St. Cloud State (10/5 & 6). The Belt now goes on its first plane ride since February as it travels to Canton, N.Y. with the Gophers.

Not a lot of movement of the Belt thus far this season. Minnesota retained it through series:
at St. Lawrence on Oct. 12 & 13;
versus Ohio State on Oct. 19 & 20;
at North Dakota on Oct. 27 & 28;
at Minnesota-Duluth on Nov. 2 & 3;
versus Minnesota State on Nov. 16 & 17;
at New Hampshire on Nov. 24 & 25;
versus Wisconsin on Dec. 1 & 2.
The Gophers retained the Belt through series:
at Bemidji State on Dec. 7 & 8;
versus North Dakota on Jan. 11 & 12;
at Minnesota State on Jan. 18 & 19;
at Wisconsin on Jan. 25 & 27;
versus Minnesota-Duluth on Feb. 1 & 2.

Minnesota still owns the Belt after maintaining possession:
at Ohio State on Feb. 8 & 9;
vs Bemidji State on Feb. 15 & 16;
at St. Cloud State on Feb. 22 & 23;
vs Bemidji State on March 1 & 2;
vs Ohio State on March 8;
vs North Dakota on March 9;
vs North Dakota on March 16.

The next defense will take place on Friday versus Boston College.

Re: D-I Championship Belt

Wishfull thinking. Good things never last foreva. Willing to Bet the Belt will move at least once at some point prior to the end of March.

There still is two chances for the belt to change hands so the "at least once" is still in play for now.

It wasn't actually wishful thinking on my part...that was a complete mischaracterization...or let's see...putting words in my mouth. ;) I hadn't forgotten the exchange. Good things never do last forever. Possible they last long enough sometimes.

March 2012:
I'm going to spend my offseason in the blissful fantasy world where Minnesota never loses. ;)
December 2012:
... the Mighty Championship Belt belongs to Minnesota 'til the end...the very end!

ARM's fantasy lives on.

Odds are that I'm gonna be losing that bet.....Back in December, figured that the Gophers would stumble once or twice in the dog days of winter in a less meaningful game. That did not happen. Clearly, they have been the favorite to win it all for a long time, long before people started thinking about an undefeated season. If I were betting real money it would be on the Gophers, even back in December......Somebody asked me in late January if anyone could beat Minny. My answer at the times was, probably not, but UND or Wisco are the only teams that I can see doing it.

However, cheering for the underdog and cheering for the East. Go BC, Go BU !!!!

Here's the actual comment in full...yeah...and I'm the one who would make a good politician. Nice editing for misrepresentation purposes. :rolleyes:

Can the belt be taken beyond borders? Would that require a sophisticated ring of international Championship Belt thieves?

I think each of the games on the 26th and 27th go under the classification, "this non-title bout is scheduled for one fall."

Updating ...
Minnesota still owns the Belt after maintaining possession:
at Ohio State on Feb. 8 & 9;
vs Bemidji State on Feb. 15 & 16;
at St. Cloud State on Feb. 22 & 23;
vs Bemidji State on March 1 & 2;
vs Ohio State on March 8;
vs North Dakota on March 9;
vs North Dakota on March 16.

The next defense will take place on Friday versus Boston College.
Minnesota held the Belt
vs Boston College on March 22;
vs Boston University on March 24;
at Colgate on October 4 and 5;
vs Wisconsin on October 11 and 12.

The next defense will be in Duluth on October 18.

So for the season to date, Minnesota started the season with the Belt in possession and held it:
at Colgate on October 4 and 5;
vs Wisconsin on October 11 and 12;
at Minnesota-Duluth on October 18 and 19;
at Bemidji State on October 25 and 26;
vs Minnesota State at home on November 1 and in Mankato on November 2.

The next defense will take place November 8 and 9 in St. Cloud.

March 2012:
The big question is......Will the Belt move along to the first team that beats Minny next season. ?
I'm going to spend my offseason in the blissful fantasy world where Minnesota never loses.

You and me both.

November 2013:
Arm's fantasy still alive and well.
Right now I'm wondering if we will have this discussion again next March ?.

The Mayans were full of it...as I anticipated, with tongue in cheek reference not actually based on wishful thinking. While I surely appreciate the good things revelation previously unknown to me, good things sometimes last a long d a m n time.

Perhaps a revision to what was, and remains the true wishful thinking...expressed thought?

Wishfull thinking. Good things never last foreva. Willing to Bet the Belt will move at least once at some point prior to the end of March 2014.

It's no trouble at all. ;)

Hold on a minute. Did not make a prediction this time around. Given up on that with this streak....Hoping that the Belt travels east to TD and then want to be witness to it staying in the East.....Right now the only serious candidate from the east to be able to do it appears to be the Big Red.....During the most recent Olympic Year they did come mightily close.

You were willing to bet. Good thing nobody put you on the hook for that willingness to gamble on that eh?

Your hopes have never been a mystery. Trust me, there are serious candidates right here, out west...which may not be your preference, but I still believe it so.

the Big Red...the only serious candidate? In my opinion they are not the only serious candidate. I have to concern myself with the WCHA gauntlet for now.
