Uh. That’s an alarmingly high number.

It makes me think we’re sitting on a giant reservoir or something is wrong with testing (procedure or materials)

It is. Once we get everyone tested (and that is a tall task), I hope the numbers even out. But, I still expect health care workers to have a higher rate of infection, given their proximity, you know?

I think it lends more credence to the belief that not just more people have it than we think, but A LOT more. If this thing operates like it did in Asia, there's a large number of asymptomatic people carrying this thing around, and have been doing so for weeks.

We could have 1MM people have it. We don't know. One reason I'm not realllllly buying the "new cases" reports. They probably had it a week ago, we are now just discovering it, so it's not really a "new" case. ;)

Re: Covfefe-19 - Part 4- Stay the **** Home

Just got confirmation that someone at an event I was at on the 8th (and likely the 5th/6th as well) has tested positive for COVID-19.

The event was two weeks ago - I feel fine, took last Friday off because I was feeling feverish, but I think it was in my head ultimately.

50-60 people crammed into a couple rooms taking turns pressing the same buttons - what could possibly go wrong?

That's all the "new" in new cases means -- newly discovered.

Even without Dump's incompetence we'd be behind the curve. He just ensured we'd be wrong-footed for a longer period. It's also extremely galling that while I am used to looking at numbers out of China or Iran or North Korea and not believing them because of their authoritarian governments, I now feel the same way about any USG entity that is under the sway of the GOP. That's the league those dou-chenozzles play in.

I don't think there is any "could" to the 1 million. My guess is it is already, right now, far far more than 1 million. I wonder if it isn't 10s of millions already. An article I read in the Atlantic (I think around the 1st or 2nd of this month) was by someone who seemed credible, certainly well credentialed, said that probably 60% or 70% of the country would be infected but probably most would have no symptoms and probably most who had any symptoms would be only mildly or moderately ill. One of the only things that has kept me from actually finding myself completely panicked by this is the notion that if most people show no signs or symptoms, most of the people they infect will also not realize they were infected. Again, I admit to being confused by a lot of what I have read and heard about this. Fortunately I trust the medical professionals enough to know that the ONLY safe thing to do is isolate, isolate, isolate, until we know for sure. All 50 states need to take the shelter in place steps, and do it now.

Oh, and trump needs to either catch it and die or be 25th. 25th-ed?

I just threw out a number, since we really don't know.

I have to work, have been in semi-isolation since the 20th, figuring I'm going to be "essential employee" since my company ships the stuff that hospitals and stores need for sanitation/etc. Just gotta hope for the best at this point. Keep calm and carry on.

Re: Covfefe-19 - Part 4- Stay the **** Home

Friend of mine has just posted about their ordeal with getting this virus in CA last month. Said it’s like the flu but 10x worse. Cough so hard they saw stars, chills that nothing could abate, and being too weak to walk across the room.

Had this when I had pneumonia induced septic shock. Was air evacuated to a larger hospital and put on a ventilator. Nasty! I am not afraid of dying from this virus, but I sure don't want the misery leading up to death ...

Re: Covfefe-19 - Part 4- Stay the **** Home

This from a friend who lives in Italy :

"The numbers of those infected in Italy are down from yesterday. And those recovering up."

Maybe they are turning a corner?? I hope so.

Re: Covfefe-19 - Part 4- Stay the **** Home

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (in Anchorage) has confirmed 7 positive cases and the base commander has declared a public health emergency.

Re: Covfefe-19 - Part 4- Stay the **** Home

Rashida Tlaib has an idea

I have no idea if this is sound, as it's well outside my wheelhouse (why I'm posting it here instead of social media)...but, maybe?

Something similar was suggested during the last GOP recession (2008), but I think that time it was conservatives wanting it to bail out the banks. It's just a reminder that the government cannot "run out of money" because money is a state-maintained fiction whose only value is confidence that the government can govern.

People think money is a normative measure of effort because their experience of it is wages, but that's not at all what money is either to governments (their power to flex their muscle) or the rich (manipulating electrons to play a d-ck-measuring game with their idiot friends).

Why are they charging $7/mask?????? I’m.....I just can’t. What is wrong with these companies???

Look who is in charge- someone should make money on this. That's how the russian party works- make money on everything- prisons, schools, sick people, pandemics, diabetes drugs, etc.

Money is the most important thing ever. Which is why lowly paid people are going to be forced back to work so that their managers and owners can make a bigger buck.

Our version of capitalism has serious problems.

Re: Covfefe-19 - Part 4- Stay the **** Home

12/6/1941
12/7/1941
12/8/1941

Did anyone in authority see it coming and do anything about it?

Heads rolled (Kimmel/Short), but the politicians, including Frank Knox, didn't. And, after some gloomy months, we started to win.

Uh, did you actually read the fallow of the people who missed the signs? It was not pretty how many people lost their leadership positions.

But to compare that to what we have now is pretty short sighted- especially looking at how other countries reacted to the exact same information- Taiwan and South Korea- BOTH of them reacted to the information coming of China and contained the problem very effectively. While there were some warning signs in 1941, the information this time was clear and pretty obvious- so obvious that THIS message board was talking about what should be done and why we have done nothing.

This is more like Japan actually telling us they will attack, somewhere, and us not doing anything to prepare. Not that they were preparing in secret and hiding that info from us- we barely had that info a day in advance. If we KNEW they were going to attack a month in advance, and did nothing, the fallout would have been a lot worst.

Smart people all saw this coming. Your leaders denied that it was even real- calling it a hoax. If you want to justify this pathetic response by comparing it to Pearl Harbor, go for it, as it just tells the rest of us what you are willing to put up with in terms of letting people suffer and die. Again, thanks for that clarification- can you also post what "church" you go to, so that I can avoid those people, too?
