Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

2-2 final score. Can't say I find a tie against Yale acceptable, but it is what it is and its better than a loss. We definitely dominated the 3rd and OT and mostly controlled play in the first 2 periods as well. Unfortunately, we had a couple of defensive break downs which led to the Yale goals. Snickeris looked great in net, but we weren't as hungry to score as we should have been during the first 2 periods.

Final shots were 40-16 Cornell.

Cornell is up 3-0 after 2. Hughes and Fortino had the goals in the 2nd. Cornell is out shooting Brown through two periods 29 to 5. Trillium, you are right. Jamieson is a fantastic goalie. It could easily be 6-0 at this point.

Matt, thanks for providing updates. Much appreciated.

My pleasure! Its now 5-0 Cornell about 2/3 the way through the third.

5-0 final. K. Overguard scored from White and Jue. The other other goal was Zorn from Karpenko. Final shots was 40-8 Cornell. Nice to get some goals on the board. As I said before, Jamieson was great. Congrats to Mazzotta on another shutout.

Well Yale Shut out Colgate today.

Ya, Snickeris had a great weekend. Its just tough to give up what I expected to be an "easy" (I say easy based on the fact that Yale was 2-8-1 coming into the weekend and Snickeris' stats were anything but stellar) point.

Based on what I saw Friday night, which appears to be more than a one night aberration, I'd say Snickeris definitely has her mojo back and that is very good news for Yale.

The good news is that Cornell is playing very solid hockey and has 8-4-2 overall record and a 7-1-2 league record heading into winter break. All in all, I'm very happy with what I'm seeing.

Cornell up 1-0 on Syracuse after 1 thanks to a goal by Karlee Overguard. Shots on goal are a lot for Cornell to relatively few for Syracuse. I must say that it was a very nice period for Cornell.

EDIT: official shots after 1 are 17-2 Cornell.

1-1 after 3. Shots on goal were 27-16. Syracuse scores a flukey short handed goal in third. Syracuse gets a break away after two cornell defense collide at their offensive blue line. Mazzotta stops the break away but the Syracuse player throws the puck in front from behind the goal line. It hits a cornell d's skate and goes in the net.

And Syracuse gets the OT goal for the win on a nice back door goal with the puck mid-air off a rebound. Cornell started the game very strong but seemed to lose a bit of steam as the game went on.

Thanks for the updates, Matt! Keep 'em coming.

Do you have any info on the recruit from the Washington Pride, Katherine Minnock?

No, unfortuntely, I do not any info on Minnock. I've googled her name but wasn't able to come up with anything informative. I have received scouting reports on both defensive recruits and they should both be good additions.

3-1 Providence after 1. First goal was a nice back door goal after Mazzotta stopped the initial shot from the point. 2nd goal I'm sure Mazzotta would like to have back. Third goal was scored on a nice shot through traffic that picked the Corner. Cornell scored to make it 2-1 on the power play. Karpenko tipped in Jue's point shot. Shots on goal are 12-8 Providence. All in all, that was definitely not our best period of hockey particularly in our defensive end. Two of PC's goals were scored because we were poking at the puck and didn't pick up the player.

EDIT: K. Overguard is not in the line up for todays game, which means we only have 12 skaters dressed.

5-2 after 2. Providence leading the shots on goal 19-17. Hughes scored from Zorn and Ogilvie. The second period was pretty much a continuation of the first as far as play. The absence of K. Overguard really hurts, especially with the other 3 players that are out of the line up to be with the CND U-22s.

6-3 final score. Final shots on goal were 27-25 Providence. Ogilvie scored the only Cornell goal of the 3rd unassisted. Certainly the most porous defensively that I've seen us this season and we looked utterly exhausted at times, but we kept battling until the end.

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

PC up on Cornell 1-0 after 1, but Cornell has the 14-9 shot advantage. There is no video of this game, only audio. It sounds like Cornell is playing better today than yesterday.

Also, apparently, I was wrong; Wilson saw her first action of the season in net yesterday. Mazzotta is in net today.

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

3-0 Providence after 2. Cornell had a goal waived off at the beginning of the second. The announcer was surmising a player in the crease, but the following face off was still in Providence's zone. Shots are 22-20 Cornell. It sounds like Cornell is looking fatigued.
