Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

Hello Hello Big Red Fans.

This is a little late in the game, but it took me some time to finally sign up for and account on this. Anyway....

I just wanted to give Cornell a huge shout out, a bear hug if you will, for some of the most amazing hockey I've had the chance to watch since NCAA let the girls take the ice. Seriously, it was unreal. What you guys pulled off to make to the Frozen Four showed that not only did you deserve to win out of skill, heart and integrity, but that you deserve the respect of every women's hockey fan in this country.

It's one of those gut wrenching deals where only one person can go home the winner but I'm confident that you know that your second place finish is so much bigger than a sequential number.

So thank you. Thank you for showing up to Ridder that weekend in March and leaving it all out on the ice. Thanks to the awesome fans who I cheered with in the semi-final against Merchyhurst. Thanks for yelling loud and making women's hockey even more fun that weekend. I hope that this season is fuel for the fire that will drive you right back to the top next season.

Thank you for the post! It was a great game. Hopefully, Cornell will have the opportunity to face off against UMD again next year. Both squads look to be significantly better and deeper.

This was the 1st ever women's national championship I ever watched and WOW was it ever good! So great to see women rising to that challenge on the national stage.

Thanks. I will for sure. My daughter is just to the age that her and her teammates are starting looking at colleges and doing research someone else from our program told me about this website.

So, Cornell...

This is me trying to get outside of my WCHA bubble. Tell me about who is coming in for the 2010-11 season, who'll be back (I know there's one big name for sure) and if you are going to blow everyone away again this year.

Inquiring minds want to know!

Wouldn't it be fun to see the Bulldogs and Big Red in the national championship game again next year? :D

(Hi from another Bulldog fan who was INCREDIBLY impressed with Cornell's players and fans at the national tournament.)

Thanks for posting! Cornell is getting Johnston and Jenner (who deferred her enrollment but was cut from TC at the same time as UMD's Larocque) next season. Those would be the two biggest. They're also getting Campbell and Cudmore off the Canadian U18 team. Campbell was the leading scoring at the IIHF u18 event a month or so ago. I've heard very good things about Slebodnick, who was an alternate goalie for the 2009 USA U18 team, and Gagliardi, who played D at Shattuck. I certainly expect Cornell to be better next season, though a number of other eastern teams should be as well...most notably Harvard is bringing in a bunch of top end talent as is BU.

With the Frozen four in Erie, I'm hoping to make the trip. If Cornell makes it, I will almost certainly go.

I should also note that Clarkson should be steller as well!

While Clarkson does have a nice recruiting class, they also graduate 2 of their top 3 scorers in Thibault and Selina, plus highest-scoring D in Eusepi. That could mean that they may not start as fast as they did last season.

Very true. However, I think with the incredible strength and depth of forwards they are bringing in, they should have no trouble replacing the lost offense...they may actually find offense easier given the improved offensive support. I suspect Clarkson will be thin on defense. Despite losing 2 experienced defensemen, they have only 1 incoming...and at least 1 of their other D is actually a converted forward already. I've always thought Eusepi was very underrated, despite being All-ECAC throughout her career. I suspect that loss will be noticed in various ways next season more than some might think.

The one D coming in is high caliber.

I started a thread elsewhere on this site about DVDs of the national championship game, but I thought I'd post something here, too.

Since I don't know anybody at Cornell, do any of you have contacts with Cornell's athletic department or whoever sells merchandise for the womens hockey team? Do you suppose there's any interest from Cornell fans for buying DVDs of the championship game? See the other thread for details.

Unfortuntely, I really don't have any contacts that could be helpful. You could always try e-mailing coach Derraugh or one of his assistants. I'm pretty sure their e-mails are on the Cornell website.
