Anybody see now that the Vol Fans are trying to get a sewage treatment plant named after Lane Kiffin now? Somehow, I get a feeling pictures of that place are going to start showing up on posters all around the PAC-10, along with a few colorful commits like "flush the Trojans" ;)

I'm glad I didn't have coffee in my mouth- I laughed pretty good at that one.

Can you imagine how stressed the Vol fans will be if somehow both USC and Tenn get to the same, lame, bowl game? They'll try to confront the USC fans, who will just do a "what's up, duuude??" reply not knowing what the big deal is.

(sort of like when West Virginia gets around to playing Michigan in a bowl game.... :D )

That indeed would be glorious!!!!

Personally, So Cal might not want to go any further east than the Cotton Bowl for a while until those wounds have had a few years to scab over. Not without the Californian National Guard accompanying them anyways.

USC and TN are scheduled to play a home and home in 2020 and 2021. But I doubt Kiffin will even be coach by then.

I heard from a UT grad I work with that there is a billboard to the effect of

Tiger Woods New Hero
"I just screwed the entire city in 5 minutes" - Lane Kiffin

Shouldn't that be the whole state?? ;) :D

Based on the neverending reactions you would think Kiffin was a good coach.

If the Pac-10 is gonna add two teams, it should be BYU/Utah to keep the rivalry pairings alive...

Absolutely. BYU-Utah are the perfect fit if the Pac-10 expands to 12 teams and does a championship game. (I would assume the game would be at the new Los Angeles stadium or at a neutral site like Qualcomm.)

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

I have my doubts about BYU or Utah ever getting into the Pac-10 as things stand now. The Pac-10 turned down Texas when the SWC was imploding because any vote to expand requires unanimity, and frankly, I don't see Cal-Berkeley ever voting in a Mormon or Mormon dominated school.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

Why do you think Cal would have a problem adding BYU? Because they're a Mormon school? I doubt that would be an issue.

The Pac-10's a lot like the Big Televen in that I think they pool their research and academics are a major influence on the conference as opposed to the SEC who would let Redneck Tech in if they added to the TV contract.

The academics would pitch a fit if a conservative, church run school got into the conference, especially with the LDS pouring money into California on the gay marriage issues that have been popping up lately.

The no playing on Sunday rule would play hob with the scheduling in non-revenue sports and possibly baseball, if they still do 3 game weekend series.

I stand slightly corrected. Stanford blocked Texas in the 90's and on random blogs/etc... I've searched, people keep claiming that Stanford and WSU have both said they'll veto any expansion right now. Nothing like a press release, though.

That's more of a reason why schools like BSU and my Idaho wont make it in for some time. *Maybe* WAC if teams leave.

When I was looking into the academcis of Idaho and BSU, I also looked into the other Rocky Mountain states, and actually found similar info- a rather shockingly low graduation rate for the state schools- Montana, Utah, Utah State, etc- all have issues.

If the Pac 10 wants two equal teams like the B11 wants one more close enough, it's going to take some work for those schools. None of the MWC or the WAC are up to stuff. Although potentially- Utah, I would say, is the front runner- they have a lot of good research for Military "stuff" that can be hidden in the Utah/Nevada desert. It's pretty strong. Not sure about BYU on that front.

Other than academic questions, the other big problem with adding these two schools to the Pac is that they don't expand the media markets covered by the Pac all that much, as adding the state of Utah in and of itself isn't that enticing.

There aren't any real likely candidates for the Pac. The other school I've heard mentioned once in awhile is Colorado, as it's the furthest west major conference school, is ok academically (I believe), and would add the Denver market. But, I think if you're Colorado, it's hard to leave the Big 12, which is generally closer geographically to you than the Pac is.

Sometimes I've wondered if UNLV would ever develop academically and across sports to be a viable candidate, given Las Vegas' massive growth in recent decades. But maybe not, being Vegas and all.
