College Basketball ver Do Wedzenia Krzyzewski

They are picked 2nd in the Valley this year...maybe Drake had other commitments and they looked elsewhere. Don't know how far out the field gets set

2024 is already out, so it must be a couple years in advance. Maybe they signed them on after winning the MVC regulars season in 2022.

30 years ago today UAA beat a Wake Forest team led by All-American Randolph Childress and some freshman named Tim Duncan.

Wake Forest would be 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and be eliminated in the second round by Kansas.

UAA would also be eliminated in the second round by eventual D2 National Champion Cal-State Bakersfield.

TIL that high school basketball this season adopted the NBA/FIBA style bonus system where the foul count resets every quarter and there’s no one-and-ones anymore.

That means that NCAA Men’s basketball is the only basketball league in the world still using the one-and-one and halves instead of quarters.

I remember the first year NCAA women's basketball went to quarters. The ESPN.com scoreboard never adjusted for it. So, every final result was listed as double OT (more, if it actually did go to overtime). D'uh!

Yeah, at UAA it happens occasionally during doubleheaders when the scoreboard operators forget to switch modes.

I've always like the NCAA's rules.

Caitlin Clark breaks the NCAA women's scoring record with eight points in the first two minutes against Michigan. Ended up with a 23 point first quarter.

Fun fact: the 3-pointer she hit to break the record was shot from Iowa State's gym.

Let's posit for a moment she's the greatest pure shooter in basketball history.

Say also she has the speed, hand-eye, vision, instincts, guts, and basketball mind. Everything except that incredible size and strength. Any chance at all for the NBA?

Zero. It’s like the stories of the USWNT losing to that Dallas FC academy team or US Women’s hockey losing to the U15 prep school team. College teams (at least the major programs) have a separate scout team of men that practice against the women to give them better competition. And those are guys that probably wouldn’t have a shot at even walking onto the men’s team.

Probably the only sport and position a woman could make it in a top professional men’s league would be hockey goalie. Maybe baseball pitcher if a team wanted a Jamie Moyer-type arm.

1) No. There are plenty of pure shooters who never see an NBA court because they're too slow, short, or weak, or some combination of all of the above, to either create their own shots or more importantly play defense at the level required in the NBA.

She's 6'0" and not especially quick. With all due respect, the average NBA player would eat her alive on the defensive end, and it doesn't matter how good a shooter you are if you can't get open on the offensive end.
