Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

I see Chatham has made it onto the Elmira schedule for 1 game. so do they show up in a minivan with no coach, 7 skaters and a shooter tutor?

Maybe EC could lend em some of their JV players? Hate to make a trip to lovely Pittsburgh to play just one game

The EC website sched shows Chatham as a EC home game.

Are there any other ECAC West/East team schedules published that show Chatham on their respective schedules?

I was just informed through a reliable grapevine that Harvard Assistant Coach Joakim Flygh will be leaving Cambridge to become Yale's newest head coach.

Coach Flygh is the New Head Coach at Yale. He will be sorely missed at Harvard, as he was a dedicated hardworking Coach. Yale is very lucky to be getting such a great Coach and a very good person. I wish him all the luck!!

I agree that it is a great choice. I'm a little surprised because he was one of two names I heard to be the top candidates. I thought it was going to be the other person getting the job but either way I knew that Yale was going to get a great coach. Congratulations to Coach Flygh.

Is it still all quiet on the Williams front? They lost a good goalie and a hell of a coach, next season could be a long one for them.

What gives with this??? It is getting late in the process. Williams would be a good gig for anyone with any ambition and a good eye for talent I would think. I would bet that they pay quite well, being a NESCAC school and if the new person could get a decent tender to commit late, they would stay competitive this year I bet and like I said if the person had a good eye for talent (player would need to be smart as well :) they would not miss a beat and continue where coach O'Neil left off. I wonder what they are waiting for? Do they not have the person they want applying yet?? Any guesses into what is going on??

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

It's another Monday morning and the question is still the same...Is Chatham going to be on the ice this coming season? You have to have a coach on the bench and so far, I have not heard an announcement of a coach.

Word is Chatham now has a coach. Should be announced today or tomorrow. The question now......Does the Coach have a team?

I feel bad for the athletes too. I expect it will be a long, long season for those who show up. But, on the up side, at least there will be another season for them.

And another positive: plenty of ice time for everybody! :)

I have no connections to Chatham whatsoever, but I do wish all of their players the best...the opportunity to exceed expectations is certainly there.

Well it's another Monday (ok, so it's Tuesday) and the burning question is still "does Chatham have a coach?". There has been no announcement and it doesn't sound like any of the players know. Anybody know anything?

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

From what I hear after 5 months they finally hired someone...

A mens club coach from somewhere.

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

Thank goodness Chatham has urgency on naming a coach- or else they would be stuck with brining in someone the same month that classes start and still in question if there are enough players to field a team... oh wait- that is what they are doing!

I sure hope they make taking on this mess worth while for whom ever is confident enough not to be become another "in and out" coach for them.

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

Heard today from a player that Chatham has hired Josh Evans, former boys club coach at RMU in Pittsburgh as their new women's coach.

Talk about no experience in the women's game or real college hockey. Oh well, I guess you gotta start somewhere.

Also saw the post that the Cortland assistant may be the next assistant at UMaine. He was the third choice at Chatham and turned down the job. Now he is in D1....what is Maria Lewis thinking......this guy is a big step down from Stockdale and the other assistant.

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

This program will either die with this new guy or will actually thrive under him. More NCAA schools should probably look to hire good club team coaches because if they recruit kids to their school over NCAA schools then they should be looked at. My guess is that the program given a year to recruit will reach new heights under him compared to some of the coaches they have hired. He should also clean house with the assistants because although they maybe good people they are ultimately holding the program back. The last time I checked though most girls learned the game at an early age by playing with the boys and having a boys coach. Don't judge a book by it's cover not to mention nobody else wanted this position.

If I were Coach Evans, I would try to stick it out with what i had during the first semester hoping that I could grab some girls in January from the teams that obviously over recruited. This is D III where transfers are pretty common.

Good Luck!

Actually it is a great hire for Maine. If you actually knew Ricky you would know that he is one of the hardest working people out there. He is tireless and has built up an impressive amount of connections in extremely short order after two years in Prep school and one year at Cortland.

He is also a great talent evaluator. Look at Cortland's freshmen class coming in, much improved over years past. He built Millbrook from an also ran prep school team to a playoff team (yes I know he wasn't there this year but it was all his players).

Maybe he has risen quickly because he is that good! He will be a DI head coach at some point, there is no doubt in my mind.

So what is Coach Lewis thinking...well she is thinking she doesn't have the money to bring a Grant type like UVM did last year so lets spend what money she does have on a hungary, hard working coach who eats, sleeps and breaths hockey who has had success everywhere he has gone.

I have known Rickey for about 4 years and could not agree more. My daughter met with Coach Utter last year and he spoke highly of Ricky and said then that he would not have him for long, that he would be grabbed by someone in the next year or so…

Congrats to Ricky

Heard today that he has 18 skaters and possibly one or two goalies. The school is making accomidations for late transfers to support the team. :)
