Don't think Graham went anywhere, the new assistant replaces the assistant who came in from Plattsburgh, can't think of her last name but I think her first was Erin.

Why did he get passed over for the Head position at Yale??? They go with an unproven over him? If he was that good of a choice why did he not get that job, I mean he was already an Assistant there, so they must know how good he is, but they skipped over him.......makes no sense to me but I guess time will tell if they made the right choice, if in fact he is the choice at Williams.

If he is then we will have a new opening at Yale correct???

This was found on Hamilton College's website regarding RPI's Allysen Weidner:

Allysen Weidner, ASSISTANT COACH
Allysen Weidner is in her first year as an assistant women's ice hockey coach at Hamilton College. Weidner was a four-year varsity letter winner at Division I Rensselaer.

In 141 games at forward for the Engineers, Weidner scored 30 goals and recorded 35 assists. She was credited with a career-high 13 assists as a senior in 2009-10. She helped lead Rensselaer to three appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Hockey League championships. The Engineers enjoyed their best season with Weidner in 2008-09, when the team won 19 games and advanced to the league championship finals.

Weidner earned plenty of success in the classroom as she made Dean's List every semester and was on the ECAC all-academic list after each ice hockey season. She graduated from Rensselaer in 2010 with bachelor's degrees in management and psychology.

Weidner grew up in Wichita, Kansas. After her sophomore year of high school, she transferred to Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota, and played girls' hockey there for two years.

Agreed...hard to believe that there wouldn't have been some good applicants with more experience wanting to be in the mix for this job.

Don't get me wrong - I don't mean to disparage the coach ... but, as you say, it just strikes me as hard to believe that they would go with an unproven assistant (with only ONE year's worth of experience) instead of either a head coach (from college or prep) or a more seasoned assistant.

Karen Thatcher Named Assistant Women's Ice Hockey Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's Ice hockey coach Bob Deraney announced today (August 19) that Karen Thatcher has been named assistant coach. Thatcher most recently competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where she helped Team USA claim the silver medal. Thatcher replaces Meredith Roth, who resigned earlier this month to pursue other opportunities.

"Karen's addition to our coaching staff will bring a wealth of new knowledge and experience," Coach Deraney said. "She will be a consistent reminder to our student-athletes of the standards our program is built upon."

A 2006 graduate of Providence College, Thatcher is 10th on the Friars' all time scoring list with 167 points in 132 games. A transfer from Brown after her freshman year, she was part of Hockey East Tournament winning teams in 2004 and 2005. She also was named Hockey East co-Player of the Year (2005), a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award (2005) and a Second Team All-American (2006). In addition, Thatcher earned All-Academic Honors and the Hockey East Sportsmanship Award in three-consecutive seasons.

"I am thrilled to be returning to Providence College," Thatcher said. "Not only is it an incredible opportunity to be a part of a national-level program and learn from a very successful coach in Coach Deraney, but Providence has always been home to me. I am honored to be rejoining the Providence program, and take great pride in giving back to a community that has given me so much and means so much to me."

In Vancouver, Thatcher contributed six points (three goals, three assists) in Team USA's five games, including two-point efforts against Russia and Sweden. Her plus/minus of +8 was tied for fourth on the team. Prior to the Olympics, she helped Team USA win back-to-back gold at the 2008 and 2009 IIHF World Championships. Thatcher also took part in three Four Nation's Cups from 2006 to 2008.

Thatcher played one season in the Canadian women's hockey league (2007-08 with Vaughn) and two seasons in the Western Women's Hockey League (2006-07 with BC and 2008-09 with Minnesota) winning the League Championship in 2009.

"We are very excited to welcome Karen back to Providence College, and especially the women's ice hockey family," Coach Deraney said. "Karen had a tremendous amount of success as a student and as a hockey player during her time at Providence. Since her graduation, her on-ice success has continued. This additional success will bring a lot to the program, especially to our players."

Thatcher is a native of Douglas, Mass. She will assume her duties at Providence College on Monday, August 23.
