CCHA teams will join WCHA

I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on where the new WCHA might hold their tourney. Given the geographic distribution of the future league, it seem far from certain. I doubt the new league will continue in the Excel Center because they probably couldn't come close to filling it, and the center of the league has shifted substantially to the east. The Resch Center in Green Bay seems like a logical choice.
Yeah, a place that's nowhere near any of the teams in the league would be a great choice. A veritable financial bonanza.

I bet the "new" WCHA stays at the Xcel Energy Center until further notice.

So you would take the XCel, which is an hour from Mankato or St Cloud, but 10 hours from LSSU and 11 from Ferris, 8 from NMU and Tech? Green Bay is no more than 8 hours from any one of the schools who have currently accepted WCHA play, 3 from NMU, 4 from Tech, 5 from LSSU. By your logic, Grand Rapids would be as good a spot as St Paul then, wouldn't it?

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Personally I am sad to see the break up of the conferences. Over the years I have grown accustomed to the games against Minnesota and Wisconsin. I'll honestly miss playing UAA and Tech...having a soft spot for Tech because man on my mom's side are alumni.

The college hockey landscape is like College Football 2.0 right now. I just hope when all is said and done, it helps the game and doesn't hurt it. I am very nervous though.

I didn't say the XCel would be a good spot. I don't know what would be a good spot. I was merely responding to the idea that Green Bay is the "logical" place. Yeah, I'd rather it be in a city that actually supports one of the schools involved than a "neutral" city. Remember, though, that it's the CCHA schools that are joining the WCHA, not the other way around. Maybe it should be one year in Minnesota, the next year in Michigan.

Green Bay or Milwaukee would be a central location. Personally, I like the Cities for the WCHA. But it's not necessarily as fair to Ferris and LSSU.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Based on the discussion, a rotation would work. St. Paul, then having it in Green Bay or in Michigan...Michigan is a better choice in that your attendence would be higher I think.

go enjoy your butt hurt conference and let us decide what happens to the WCHA after you run away.

I hope City does not do any better than fourth this year of for that matter any year.

Uh Oh. I guess the former CCHA schools are the second-class citizens of the new WCHA now. I just hope you remember it was a CCHA team (NMU) that saved your autobid.

Seriously, I think I sense some elitism emerging in "the land of misfit toys" (not my nickname!). ;)

Unless of course Minnesota Moorhead joins the ice box.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Put the WCHA tourney finals in Marquette. Turn the Yooper Dome into a hockey stadium for the weekend. Centrally located. Unique viewing experience. Regular service from major air carriers for the Alaska schools and their fans. Nice city with lots of bars and -- in March -- still plenty of good skiing. And then nobody has to make an unnecessary extra trip into Minnesota. Win-win.

Settled. So easy.

I'm the originator the of Island of Misfit Toys designation. Elitism? From a Mankato fan? Give me a break; I still don't expect the Mankato program to survive this over the next decade. I expect Mankato to still be a bottom of the pile program. The "new" WCHA tourney will be, for all intents and purposes, a de facto D-II championship. Are you really expecting many fans to drive 6-8 hours to watch?

Where in Michigan? At the Joe? Lower Michigan is not really a college hockey fan hotbed unless it's UM or MSU. Been to several CCH finals and GLI's and no one shows unless those school play. It's not like MN where people show just to watch without a fan favorite.

Nope. The new WCHA isn't worthy of a championship game because like MavsFan said they are all Division two schools. I have to agree no more WCHA conference tourney. It is better for the sport.
