CCHA teams will join WCHA

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Nope. The new WCHA isn't worthy of a championship game because like MavsFan said they are all Division two schools. I have to agree no more WCHA conference tourney. It is better for the sport.

I wonder if the Mankato fan's attitude is, in a general way, part of the reason some of the other WCHA schools opted to form their own league. Not to start yet ANOTHER "why did they start the new leagues" tangent . . . but the sentiment of that posting might very well serve as the Preamble for the NCHC's Bylaws, under the heading of Section 2(a): "Why We Left."

And on the topic at hand -- I think the Yooper Dome is the place to be. Seats 16,000 (allegedly) in a non-football set-up.

I've played there. But it's predecessor, the old Laurium Airport would be far better!

I honestly don't think that MavsFan is representative of MSU fans as a whole. Our fan base has been shat upon for a long time and it's wearing on some people. We're struck with the curse of picking up leftover pieces from the state of MN (which is still pretty decent in most cases). The problem is that we're competing against some of the better schools in the country in our first 10 years. It's akin to UND football moving to D1 and jumping directly into the Big 10. They would get better recruits, but they probably still wouldn't compete on a weekly basis. It's about as uphill of a battle as you can have and the fan base is having a hard time accepting it. Most of us understand it's a work in progress, but we're sinking in the standings at the same time that these changes are happening and it's having a negative effect on many people. It's hitting at the worst possible time for MSU and it's causing additional angst due to it hitting the fan all at the same time.

Somewhere in southern Minnesota, Troy Jutting just got a contract extension through 2025.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Green Bay or Milwaukee would be a central location. Personally, I like the Cities for the WCHA. But it's not necessarily as fair to Ferris and LSSU.

Ferris and LSSU have a conference title to play for though, and a conference, so they shouldn't be whining too much about travel time to a site.

Uh Oh. I guess the former CCHA schools are the second-class citizens of the new WCHA now. I just hope you remember it was a CCHA team (NMU) that saved your autobid.

The olive branch was extended to NMU and then the rest. You think the WCHA couldn't have gotten an autobid? Pretty sure I can think of a school south of the Mason-Dixon that would have been our 6th.

How many you fancy are gonna show up to a 16,000 seat venue there?

What is wrong with having the tourney at the regular season champions arena? The current WCHA was the only conference that gets good crowds for their conference tourney. I doubt the Big Ten could draw the crowds the WCHA does now at the xcel center and the new conference has no shot at getting more than 10K in the building and I bet that is pushing it.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

16,000 in the Yooper Dome. Easy. Done and done.

Marquette in the early spring. Still do some good skiing. The UP schools, Alaska schools, BSU . . . Heck, the BSU folks travelled very well for the CHA finals in flippin' Kearny, Nebraska. Marquette is Shangri La compared to Kearny. And much closer for the Beavers. Alaska fans have to fly anyhow. UAF brought down a nice group to the Joe in not-so-pleasant Detroit. Marquette would be Valhalla compared to Detroit. Tech and LSSU fans would show up in decent numbers. I was under the impression SCSU fans were a fairly dedicated bunch and would support their team anywhere -- so why not charming, fun, active, lovely Marquette?

And the Yooper Dome needs love.

How many teams would make it to the conference tournament? Are you trying to tell me there are enough hotel rooms in Bemidji, Mankato, Houghton, the Soo, Big Rapids to host a tournament like that at the last minute? And I'm talking more about all the teams, their staffs and the small group of fans each team would actually have attend. We're not talking about putting 10k into any of these towns (since none of the buildings fit that). I think St Paul, Duluth, Green Bay are your best bets to host the new tournament.

How noble. I'm sure the WCHA was so eager to add Huntsville, that they were the next call McLeod would've made had NMU not accepted. And if the WCHA was so certain to keep that autobid, why did St Cloud back off its "not interested" position on the NCHC. Personally, I'm far from certain that St Cloud, at this point, has a solid long term commitment to the WCHA. It wasn't so much "extending an olive branch" to NMU or the other CCHA schools. It was making certain their glutes were covered.

I could be wrong, but I doubt the xcel would be interested. March is a busy month and giving up a weekend so the WCHA can draw 8K a game doesn't seem to make sense to me.

You would be correct sir. SCSU is gone if they are asked to join. Rumor has it that it will happen within a few weeks. If that is true only time will tell.

If that happens, and many SCSU fans agree with me, you guys are *ing morons who don't ever deserve any respect at all. Buncha hypocrites. Stick to your guns.

Sincerely,

A guy who wished the BiG Mistake never happened, along with the NaCHo(C) Conference.

:)
Unfortunately, doing something like that would be par for the course for SCSU

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Personally, I rather see SCSU stay committed to the WCHA. Our fan base is about split on which conference would be better for the program. I would have really liked to see UMD still in the WCHA. It would have been nice for all the Minnesota schools stick together with the exception of the Gophers.

I have no idea which way the administration is leaning. With Gasparini at the helm, I would have to think he would advise the NCHC if the opportunity were to arise. I hope I am wrong.

The only satisfaction I would get out of going the NCHC would be all of the crying from Goon and many other dirty UNDies.

Regardless, I have grown tired of all the realignment psycho babble. Just looking forward to seeing some great college hockey in the near future.

HA! Cloud fans barely even make the 1hr trip to Minneapolis! You think they are going to travel out of state in large numbers? ;)

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

I think I would get as much satisfaction out of seeing you boys change your story ;)

Many of us agree. It was ill advised to make any kind of statement at that time. The situation was far too fluid to take any kind of firm stance after having a bomb dropped on the league.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Honestly, you have every right to. I don't care for the say one thing do another BS. Don't worry, you didn't hurt my feelings.

It's time for the Gophers to get back to NCAAs. Good luck this season.

Personally I wish it didn't have to come this, but they have no choice. If they don't go you know damm well someone else from the WCHA would. Potter got a lot of heat for what he said from alums/boosters and I have heard he is on the hot seat right now. I am sure he is hoping Gino's connections save him.
