CCHA teams will join WCHA

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

De-Nile just isn't a river in Egypt.

Alright then, cite specific examples. You say you "doubt" that it was just UND or DU and that we should stop "to maybe email one of the Beat writers from the teams that are going to be in the NCHC". You have a hockey blog and are a fan of a team going to the NCHC. Which of these other schools was just chomping at the bit to leave the WCHA? Miami and ND would have had a standing invite to join the WCHA post-BTHC, but perhaps Notre Dame wasn't interested as they seem to want a smaller conference. So was it Duluth (not likely, as everything indicates they were a last minute add), Omaha, or CC that was hellbent on starting their own conference? Or was it the hope of luring Notre Dame? I'm not trying to single any program out, I just haven't heard exactly what you've heard and am interested.

I'm sort of surprised that BGSU has taken so long to make a decision. There is a decent chance they are in discussions with the four AHA schools, UAH, and WMU about preserving the CCHA.

I've heard literally nothing that would indicate this.

Why don't you email people and ask them questions, a lot of people in the know will answer questions and tell you what they know. They will also probably tell you that they don't want what they just told to make it to a message board... Talk some of the hockey media people around college hockey, go to the various Media chats. One thought might be that maybe Miami and ND didn't want to be in the WCHA with McLeod as the commish?

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

I always love how SCSU fans say that Miami and SCSU are equals when Miami has owned SCSU as of late... Miami has been to the Frozen Four, SCSU has not... All the aforementioned teams in your list have won NCAA games but UNO. As far as being on equal footing on spending money on your hockey program SCSU has not. Sure your school spent money on an adviser after the fact on an AD adviser, who happens to be a former Fighting Sioux hockey coach. From what the beat writers in the college hockey have said is that SCSU is on the outside looking in and has little chance of being in the NCHC, they have said they are basically a fall back.

:confused:What are you talking about? all I said was I didn't look up miami. The reason for that is the discussion we had on the other board only had to do with WCHA teams... Also I have said many times on here they are a long shot to get in.

WMU and BGSU would be the top programs in the new conference. Which would give them better odds at making the NCAA tournament and making their programs more successful financially.

Honestly I do not see WMU making it into the NCHC. Notre Dame wants to have lots of non conference games and the only way that happens in the NCHC is if they stay at 7 teams so I doubt Notre Dame will feel compelled to bring WMU along for the ride.

With all that said though I am a realist and think that unfortunately BGSU will just end up in the WCHA and UAH will end up screwed.

The major problem here is that the AHA teams met with the CCHA and there was a great divide financially between the groups. An AHA-WMU-Bowling Green alliance would seem to be a huge longshot. Especially with Western looking to improve its standing in college hockey. If Western cannot follow Notre Dame, they and BG will wind up in the WCHA.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Everyone assumes that it was all DU and UND's fault have you even stopped to maybe email one of the Beat writers from the teams that are going to be in the NCHC?
What good would emailing UND's beat writer do me? I would just get a long explanation on how the NCAA hates sue, how sue is obsessed with the Gophers, and the conspiracy that officials have against sue. That has nothing to do with tNational.

Considering your response, I think in your case we know who is obsessed with who.

False. I am simply posting about a few opinions that I know for a fact many sue fans share around here and other boards.

Obsession? Hardly.

Why would UND Fighting SIOUX fans be obsessed with a program that's not even been relevant for 3 season?

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

You have no idea what you're talking about... I doubt that this was driven "solely" by UND or DU. Maybe Miami didn't want to play in a depleted CCHA, maybe just maybe UMD didn't want to play with the other smaller schools in the WCHA? It's highly possible... Everyone assumes that it was all DU and UND's fault have you even stopped to maybe email one of the Beat writers from the teams that are going to be in the NCHC?
Solely is a strong word but this doesn't happen if UND and DU don't want it to.

Three whole seasons. Wow don't worry Eric in two years we will not be seeing the Gophers playing the Sioux in Grand Forks during non conference play ever again.

I wouldn't be so sure... I could see an rotating schedule, the name is going away and the Gophers know that the Sioux will help them fill out their building.

While it could happen, it most likely will not. Perhaps the random series every handful of years, unless North Dakota is willing to travel for it. It truly is sad to see, as it was at one point arguably the best rivalry in all of college hockey. Given that, it is not what it once was. IMO, the DU-UND rivalry has been the #1 rivalry for North Dakota over the past few seasons, and that will only intensify when the National is formed (same could be said for Minnesota-Wisconsin).

A tournament would be a perfect venue to keep this rivalry (and others) going, but I believe Minnesota is looking at having a Minnesota-only tournament once they depart for the B1G. As I've stated several times before, I believe a tournament featuring North Dakota, Minnesota, Duluth and Wisconsin could be a huge success, but at this point in time, I do not see it happening.

Funny you say that, I mentioned exactly that over at GPL and they didn't like hearing that cause I mean...god forbid! Only the Gopher fans can talk about how awesome the Michigan hockey rivalry will be that'll "replace" the UND rivalry.

Mere mention that the Denver rivalry has been the biggest rivalry the past few years is just heresy to them because it just couldn't be true! They're the Gophers!

Indeed. Your "gotchas" are so legendary GPL posters hide in fear when you come around.

Before you were born a bunch of Minnesotans like the Marvins started up a hockey program in North Dakota and they were always hoping a rivalry with the Gophers would replace the Minnesota vs. Michigan hockey rivalry which at one time was one of the best in the nation.
