Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

Although I was not in attendance at the U18 games in Lake Placid, the report was that the US were physically bigger and stronger than their Canadian counterparts and the smaller players on TC couldn't muster much offense and had difficulty defending as well...thus the shot totals and results. The US team might look to tweak a few things but look for Canada to re-tool and adjust their lineup in December cuz I am sure the weekend results aren't sitting well with the powers that be. Can anyone elaborate on this?

Last year Canada could have sent two quality U18 teams to worlds with the depth in the 92 class. (Remember that team Ontario U18 minus the players that were on TC, beat the TC U18 team). This year that depth is simply not there in Ontario, and over 50% of TC U18 is from Ontario, including 6 of 7 D. Trillium and myself have been singing this tune for a while now. It is a one year blib.

As far as elborating on the rest of your musings. There is turnover every year on TC between August and the naming of the final squad. It will be more interesting to watch this year, as it is a CWG year, so no Nats in November to do an evaluation. This presents more of a challenge to determine what changes to make.

Anyone know where and when U18 worlds is this upcoming season ?.

Sweden in April/2011

I think you are correct noting that the World U18's are in Sweden but I believe they start the first week of January rather than April this time around. If this is the case the teams will have very little time over Christmas Holidays to have a mini 'tryout' camp, practice, and come together as a team.

It's January 1-8, 2011 in Sweden. Last year was the exception, when it was in March. Prior to that it was the first week of January.

IMHO this is a good time to have it. Gives teams time to have a sufficient prep camp during the Holiday break, and the players do not lose too much school time. The boys U20 is also held this time of year.

Scouts will be really busy then if they need to make changes has been suggested In that way the US system is much better in that they start at U14 gathering girls and evaluating vs each other.

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

There is no doubt that the U.S. puts together a roster of talented individuals; many identified during their early age participation in the Regional and National events. The question is can the U.S. put together a team of talented individuals that can play as a team and thus generate better results than was recently achieved. Particularly at the U22 level and above, teamwork far outweighs individual performances.

Not so sure about it being much better. There has been a lot of moaning and groaning over the years about that system on this board.

While I will agree that it is a more effective way to identify talent than what is done north of the border, it does not necessarily translate into a better talent pool of players. For that you need the right grass roots development systems.

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

Makes a great deal of sense...

What Misery? The US swept...not experiencing any misery myself. No *****ing about the officiating in miserable fashion either.

Hey Misery, don't you find it even a little intriguing that the Canadian 18's lost 4-1 in the first game with the US holding a 7 - 1 advantage on the PP while in game 2 they lose a 3 -2 OT game where the penalty #'s were close through regulation only to have a roughing penalty called in OT against them and the US game winner is scored on the PP. I mean.... who calls that? Game 3 see's an edge in the PP for Canada with the Americans having to score a late goal to win it.

Ya, the officiating had absolutley nothing to do with the outcome of this series and if you want to call that a sweep...fill yer boots.

Stop it...please stop...you're makin' me cry...:(

Call it a sweep? Yep...that's precisely what I call it. Let's see...three games to none, that's a sweep alright.

I mean.... who calls that?
Uh...the official? Did I get that right? Please continue...there's no penalty for basking in your misery.

LOL. Well, if you're going be the technical definition of a sweep. :D

Nope....I'm good, said my piece. Mission accomplished.

IMHO Canada has been treated more fairly by the officiating in Moscow and the scene of the crime will now commonly be referred to as Lake PowerPlay. :)

Well maybe you should save your expert testimony for the crime scenes you were actually at. There was little to no griping about the officiating at Lake Placid on either side, and yes, a sweep occurred there, as it it did north of the border. Time for both visitors to go home, evaluate the results, and move on.

Perhaps we all should follow suit.

You're going to need a shower after extended wallowing in your misery mud pit.

When your team wins...the officiating is great. When your team loses the officiating is rigged. Now I get it...mission accomplished...

Brooky, we may not always agree on things, but this is one of those rare special moments, where we agree...feel the love:)

Re: Canada vs. USA - 2010 U18 and U22 Series

I'll leave you with one last comment that came to me via tweet from the Lake PowerPlay arena...

"It appears to me that the entire US refereeing crew has attended the Stacey Livingston School of Officiating."

That's a wrap...

Geee...think the source of that comment could be of any significance? Wouldn't be a source of Canadian heritage by chance? Perish the thought!

Misery loves company. It's good you have company in your misery.

I'm running out of kleenex.
