BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

Maybe he isn't as old as you are:D

Hey I resemble that remark! And Rox is right - the f-bombs really started back around 2002ish and have gotten worse since then as the crowds have grown. Like Alan said even 100 of us won't change 4,500 students.

I also think the whole f-bomb and sucks thing is becoming more a part of the younger generation, RPI as an example used to have some good chants now its all 'player sucks' 'two minutes for sucking' That said I hope Lowell can actually change the tide, but good luck.

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

I liked how part of the band made a lap of the concourse before settling into their seats to start the game. I wonder if the powers at Agganis would implode if the BU band attempted the same. Could be a nice warning for some people to get their asses out of the club room and catch the start of the game.

Hot dogs, while very basic and simple at Tsongas, were nicely executed. And here I thought it was impossible to serve a hot dog that wasn't wrinkled and reheated on a dessicated bun.

Well...I and a few others around me had quite the potty mouths in the mid to late 90s. And the "three cheers" chant was around when I first started going to games. Don't let your age affect your memory:D

I don't really have a problem with some naughty language, it's a freaking hockey game, but I do share the sentiment that we need more clever cheers and less "Bull****" and "You suck chants." Although I maintain that those chants are applicable once in a while (like on a controversial no-goal call?;) )

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

I'm not going to read this entire wall of what I imagine is total drivel, but just because you want to skate over the fact that Lowell got screwed on a non-call for the second straight game (by the same official) and that Lowell suddenly got called for a penalty after BU got away with assault a minute before doesn't change the fact that it happened.

Look, try as hard as you want, we're not going to start liking Benedetto here at BU. It's just not going to happen. I know that's your real aim with all these posts about him being pro-BU, but we'll never see it that way and will always boo and insult him. Sorry.

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

Goes to show what I've been saying all along. Lowell is a low rent school with low rent fans in a low rent city. What else would you expect. Tonight out of BU you saw the heart of champion, coming into the home arena of team jacked up on righteous indignation over last year's HE championship loss....and BU smoked them in their own arena. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess....
if only lowell could have such a devoted following of people who are either about to enter their middle age or have well exceeded it, especially those that have watched college hockey for longer than i've been alive and still don't understand the sport. it's really creepy and sad to see so many BU fans, all old enough to be jack parker's first-born, putting on jerseys and waving the pom poms for kids that could literally be their own children. there's something unreservedly embarrassing about your being proud of the accomplishments of people half your age. is it because your college years were so good or so bad that you refuse to move on from them?

if lowell had more fans like that, then it would truly deserve to win through dubious calls just like bu.

Oh in the 90s we were bad, but 10-15 fans being bad and 4,500 is a big difference. For a few years it wasn't that bad, but it got real bad more recently is my point.

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

A couple of observations -

1. Unbelievable crowd last night on the part of UML. Cannot believe the number of students attending now. A far cry from years past.

2. BU doesn't seem to travel as well as they used to. I've noticed their road crew attendance down for several seasons. At least some come, sit in their ticketed seats (unlike NU), and like our fried dough!

3. I knew we were in trouble the moment I saw Benedetto was listed as the ref on the game notes earlier in the week, that something would happen.

4. Even though BU won, I feel Lowell was the dominant team last night. BU scored on some fluky shots from way out that either Hutton was screened on, our defense had a brain cramp, or Hutton fell asleep. UML pushed all night and did a great job of keeping the puck in the zone. I saw no tilt one way or the other skill wise and feel BU and UML are two pretty evenly matched teams.

5. The UML students and the BS, etc. A few UML officials have taken notice and this will be taken care of to nip it. Trust me. Several years ago we used to "self police" that as many of us sat among the students and would either politely stare anyone down or politely inform them that we're not UMA fans. Suck is generally accepted but the BS, FU, etc. will be cleansed fairly soon.

I think you need to look up the definition of "fact."

Sour grapes. The no-goal was in the 2nd period. Get over it and start skating again to try and pot another one legally. Your team got over it, but your fans can't seem to.

One the trip in OT: if your D-man didn't get beat to the outside, he wouldn't have put himself in a position to have to lay out for the puck and wave his stick into Pereira's skates. Most UML posts on this are 10 lines griping about the penalty and 1 line admitting low defence. 10 != 1 and it doesn't make you even handed.

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

Lowell fans- Seriously, knock it off with the "the refs are on BU's side" and "we got screwed by the refs" crap. You're embarrassing yourselves. The refs called it both ways last night. Were there bad calls? Yes, but they went both ways, too. You didn't lose because of the refs. You lost because BU shut down your PP, Millan made several great saves and you gave up three odd-man rushes that led to goals. I've liked Lowell my whole life, and I love the direction the program's going, but you're not exactly doing yourselves proud with all this whining.

/what I hope will be one of the only rants I go on this year

We were all fine with the whole "whistles are away," let them play route the refs had gone with. The thing that is irking us is that we were called on a blatant penalty, but there were BU penalties just as blatant that didn't get called (BU's 4th goal was the direct result of a trip on the blue line in front of the BU bench).

But it doesn't matter anyway, cause you say one thing about the refs and people say you're whining.

No, it is saying that it was entirely the refs fault that you lost the game which is whining. You can say the refs made some bad calls but if that's all you have to explain why your team lost, then you are whining. Most lowell fans have also pointed out that they lost because of too many odd man rushes as well as other aspects, and then they also mention the refs. That's fine. That is exactly what you did with you first post after the game, you mentioned the refs and some bad things Lowell did...just leave it at that. BU fans can also probably stop telling UML fans to stop whining. Why care? BU won and there is another important game tonight.

This could concievably be the most stupid post I have ever seen. Is there an age limit to being a fan?? Having a fanbase of all age groups is the goal of every team. It is how support is perpetuated. Do I think the no goal call was wrong- yes. Can I believe the guy could do 2 stupid things in the last 2 games when he reffed-yes. But- we spent the vast majority of the 3rd firmly camped in the BU zone and couldn't put enough in. Carter let up a soft one and we had a few nasty brain farts on D. You can be bitter about another no goal but I am not sure what the rest of that drivel was about.

Thank you.

oh and to the guy who said BU scored on a lot of "fluky goals" if you want to call Alex Chiasson sniping a shot under the post high glove side, a well executed 2 on 1 where Warsofksy's shot goes high right under the post, and Colby Cohen blasting a slapshot "fluky", then okay.

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

certainly not, but there's an age limit for pumping your own tires over a team, which is what BU fans seem to revel in.

Goon, I would have no problem comparing personal accomplishments in life with you. However, given that this is a hockey message board, I'll stick to comparisons of hockey teams, specifically BU and Lowell, a comparison that BU wins every time.
