BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

How so? Did some of the student chants hurt your feelings?

no, but i even pointed out to some of my friends tonight making their first trip to Tsongas how UML fans are usually loud but not tremendously offensive or obnoxious, only to be disproven.

believe me, nothing anyone says in that building can get under my skin when its been so good to us on the ice

Were Lowell fans making fun of you or something?

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

There was a sign that someone had in the front row right behind the goal that said "Apologize.......something." What was the something? The letters all kinda ran together.

The fact that there was NO traffic on the way up to Lowell and the fact that you sell Hoodsies (I love Hoodsies!!) led me to believe it was going to be a good night. Well, for me. :o

Was there something on both sides of the towels that were handed out? I know one side was for a bank. That was what fans were holding up against the glass. Which was a little.....odd.

And if any of the guys that painted their bodies are on this board....dudes, you need to be fully committed and paint the front and back of your bods. Like the guys at Maine. That's dedication and commitment to fandom.

Congrats on taking over the arena. Are there plans to upgrade the scoreboard? I noticed some bulbs were out. And the glare from the lights on the screens made it difficult to read, at least down low. It was definitely easier the higher up you were.

Why was Jim Prior announcing the game? Does he work at Lowell home games now?

or more specifically at the scorer's table, eh?

as you can imagine, the run of success lowell had last year has attracted a lot of students, which is good. unfortunately, they don't know anything about hockey yet, which is bad.

but they're starting to pick up on things a little bit, which is good. but they still need handholding, which is bad.

they're even starting new things like standing up for the entire game (never happened at lowell before), which is good. sadly those new things, at least for now, include chanting "bull ****" at every penalty and somehow contorting "sucks" into two syllables for "TEAMNAME SU-UCKS," which is bad.

like i said, work in progress.

sigh.

Can anyone give me a clue why the refs were playing 'swing your partner' all night with the face offs. I have never seen that many people kicked out of the circle in a game.

Chris Aughe (36) is a diva linesman. He basically does the same thing when working Lowell Devils games.

This is precisely how I feel about our crowd, too.

The scoreboard will be changed next summer. There is is talk that an arena "ribbon" will be installed sometime during the semester break. When completed, it will have a similar feel to Agganis.

Jim Prior was a fill-in for the regular announcer who was absent due to a prior commitment.

well, it definitely is a good thing that the program is kinda getting in the swing of things - obviously the quality of the on ice product has improved, and it definitely shows in the support in the stands. they will work the kinks out, weed out the bad eggs, and in the end, everybody wins, including visiting fans!

Re: BU at Lowell, Lowell at BU 10/30-31

yes but it's been an issue at amherst for as long as i can remember. it's been an issue at lowell for two weeks.

Hey, I never said it was going to be fixed anytime soon. Anyways, how do you get 4,500 19-year-olds who want to swear in unison to stop? I feel like it's now an ingrained part of the game "tradition." When I was a student, we had so few people at home games, that a few people could change the chants. Now those same people get swallowed up. I guess my attitude is that they're coming to the games, that's a start.

I knew Lowell was in trouble when I heard his voice tonight. Actually, I talked to him briefly between periods, the regular Lowell PA person had a conflict tonight. He's worked several Lowell games over the past few years. He also mentioned he does announcing for other HE teams including BC.
