BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

I have a question which hopefully people with some experience can answer. I'm looking to buy tickets to the game at BC on the 13th and I wanted to know the best place for a visiting fan to sit in that arena. Most importantly I don't want to buy tickets and realize that I'm sitting right in the middle of the BC student section (unlikely, but I'm paranoid). Is there a designated visitors section, and if not, does anybody know which part of the arena would be my best bet?

Thanks in advance, I know its kind of a weird request.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Not true. Boston College and the Fenway Group are partners and BC was always part of this deal if they could get another team to agree to it. I know this because I have a friend who works with the Fenway Group. Parker's comments are petty and typical when he mentions BC in any way. BU was asked but on the premise that BC or NU didn't want to play. In the end, Harvard didn't want to and NU did, hence BC vs. NU at Fenway. BU was the backup plan.

Here we go!

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

bc is superior to bu in nearly everything. while it is sad that it has come to it, it's the truth. if bu doesn't like it, improve.
Can someone elaborate on exactly what BC is superior to BU in? Are we talking all sports or sports and academics? BU is certainly better at some sports (or at least as good) and the academics are very different (I believe BU has better business and Law programs as I don't recall BC having an Engineering program).

The fanboy defense society is alive and well. With a name like eagle hater surely you can be taken objectively. If you change your name maybe CHN will let you pretend to be a journalist!

Bu better than Bc at sports? That is too funny

a) Change your screen name... it is very "fanboyish".

b) I took Mookie's post to be talking about athletics (but I may be wrong, you will have to get a response from Mookie) and he is correct that most (not all) sports are more competitive nationally at BC.

Scandals in its athletic departments! Only school to have two major gambling scandals affect it over a 20 year stretch in two different sports. Watch "Goodfellah's" for a mention of BC, as well as being the butt of jokes on a national basis (The Letterman Show made a few cracks at that time). Beyond that there's a list of co-ed assault, drugs, guns, steroids, racism and even counterfieting that would make Tom Obsourne's Nebraska program blush. I freely admit, in this area, BU can't compete with our friends up at The Heights. I'd be happy to post a few articles of these numerous incidents if anybody would like. ;)

They aren't that many tickets left for this game since it is only a couple weeks away but the BU sections are in JJ, CC, and part of KK I believe. I would just grab any tickets you can and then attempt to find an open seat next to fellow BU fans. The superfrauds should be more than willing to help you though since it is the day of the sabbath ;)

I've missed these cut and paste jobs from the Rover handbook. Glad you saved it for a newbie...

Get with the times, Rover. Sure, BC has had trouble with individual athletes under Gene DeFilippo. I'm stunned, it must only happen at BC

BC has a better athletic department than BU...get over it. It's not a big deal. They should have a better one than BU.

Can we go one thread without you and your Chestnut Hill friends popping up? :p

One thread? That's asking a lot. I like talking all things college hockey and it seems your thread is more active with more posters and more going on in general.

If you love mookie, you're going to love Mr. Derp!

I don't need to rehash college rankings. But don't be silly and tell us how they (usnwr) has no clue. It is what it is.

And the boys up the street are big time athletics. BU isn't.

When I was at BU silber gave a talk one night how out school was better than an ivy. He spent 90+ minutes breaking down everything comparable between BU and Brown. Nyt used to write glowingly about BU in their Sunday paper. Then focus was lost and he wanted to be governor, then cried about money.... Whatever. Don't waste my time telling me BU has a better medical school than BC :p

Seems the obsession starts with the coach. Its harvards decision but We got picked before bc!!

That line of comment was unnecessary on his part.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

The primary differences between BU and BC athletically is in the so-called major sports.
BC has football, BU doesn't.
Other than that, BC has been playing in the Big East/ACC, while BU is in America East. BC's league competes at a higher level than BU's league.
Outside of football and baseball (which BU also dropped), and basketball, there isn't a whole lot of difference in the non-revenue producing sports.
BU is pretty much at, or near, the top of their league in those.

Personally, I'd like to see BU in the Atlantic-10, which would be a good fit across the board.

To compare BU and BC as schools, BU is much larger, offers many more programs and is non-denominational. BC is a Catholic college that concentrates more on liberal arts.
They are like apples and oranges.

I would never have considered going to BC. Not because of the quality of the school, because they didn't offer what interested me. I also was not interested in being at an institution that teaches from a Jesuit perspective.
If I was interested in a Catholic college and a liberal arts education, then BC would be a good choice. BC can compare itself to Providence, Holy Cross and Notre Dame. The only thing it has in common with BU is Commonwealth Avenue.

To be fair, from my understanding, the Jesuit sect is one of the more liberal sects of the Catholicism, and I would hardly call BC an overly religious school from what I know. When I looked into it, I didn't find that everyone was overtly religious, with priests and members of clergy playing a major role in the educational process. I could be wrong since I didn't go there, but that was my understanding. That said, can we end this stupid discussion? There are more pertinent things to discuss, such as what FakeJackParker thinks of the coming weekend.

"Individual athletes"? When it starts reaching two dozen individuals, that's no longer an isolated incident. Its a fundamental problem with the university itself. BC has over the last two decades the most scandal ridden athletic program in the country, with no national championships save for men's hockey to show for it. Hell, if you're going to cheat, or bring in kids who don't belong there, at least do it right. :D Usually when a program gets in trouble, its one coach. USC football with Carrol or Cincy hoops with Huggins. At BC, its across sports, coaches, and generations! Now that's a legacy to be proud of. Does BC have a better athletic program than BU? Sure. If BU decided to upgrade, would I like to see them aspire to be like BC's program? Not on your freakin' life. I'd rather be in the papers for big wins, not for scandals and a AD lamenting no show fans at sporting events every other week.

24 athletes? Over how many years? And how does that compare to other schools? Something tells me you have no clue how it stacks up with other schools. I never said isolated incident. I said individual athletes. There's a huge difference. To say BC has been the most scandal ridden athletic department since 1991 is so factually off base it's not even worth arguing with you. And why are you so hung up on national championships in other sports? Please enlighten me, what sports should BC be winning national titles in other than hockey?

Stop pretending like BC is on the level of an Ohio State, USC, insert SEC team here. It's a complete fabricated myth on your behalf. Not even one BU fan would come to your defense about this.

So you're saying you'd dream of BUs athletic department being better than BCs? Well that's a ground breaking revelation. I would have though you'd like to be worse than BC.
