Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

It's a bummer Dempster didn't sign with the Crew. I had heard he wanted a 3 yr deal and Melvin had learned his lesson with 3 yr deals, so he said he'd only offer a 2 year deal. Then I read he actually signs a 2 yr deal with the Botox for Botox $. Too bad, I sure thought he'd get a 3 yr deal somewhere. Grienke's money was WAY too high for that guy, yikes.

I was looking at the Free Agent Tracker, as I am still concerned about the lack of pitching (both in the rotation and the bullpen). Carlos Zambrano is still a free agent. :D There's a few somewhat solid SP left, but at this point, nobody that is worth any overspending. There's also a ton of experienced (read: old) relievers still available.

I wish my team would overspend on any of these guys! Because we are going in to the season with 0 starting pitchers.

Colby Lewis
Kyle Lohse
Shaun Marcum
Roy Oswalt
Jonathan Sanchez
Joe Saunders

Lohse, Lewis and Sanchez caught my eye too. We could use a solid 2-3 guy, as we have a bunch of kids that will compete for some of the spots.

1. Yo
x. Narveson
x. a selection from Fiers-Rogers-Peralta-Thornburg-maybe Estrada, although I like him in the bullpen too

I'd consider Sanchez and Saunders. Lohse is going to steal money from someone. The last two years have been real statistical outliers for him. I've never been sold on Colby Lewis, and Oswalt's arm is about to fall off. If you sign Oswalt, you might as well sign another pitcher to cover the 15-20 starts Oswalt is going to miss.

I find Lohse a little scary because he's been so good lately in STL, but never before that. Not sure why. It reeks of a Suppan-like situation. I would hate to see them overpay for Lohse and then have him return to his Twin-like numbers.

Exactly. That's why my first phone call would go to Sanchez. Although the more I think about it, Lewis might not be so bad either, but you're going to have to open up the checkbook a bit more.

My first thought was Sanchez as well but have you seen his numbers? He had an ERA of EIGHT last year. He was ok in San Francisco but he was awful with 2 different teams last season...

It is difficult to get excited about that rotation at the moment. An injury or two and who knows. Few of those guys have full MLB workloads under their belts and one of them, Narveson, is coming off a major injury.

And Fiers struggled later in the season, too. The workload for any of those guys, but especially Rogers, would be a question mark.

Now that I've actually looked at him instead of talking out of my ***, you're right. My fault. That one's on me.

Was he hurt the last two seasons? His numbers went right down the toilet in 2011. The last two years he's got an ERA of 5.75 and a WHIP of almost 1.7 over 166 IP.

Upon further review, I'd pass on him, too.

EDIT: Colby Lewis only threw 105 innings last year as well. Joe Saunders doesn't appear to be overly terrible.

14 Brewers in the WBC. I may actually watch.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Corey Hart needs knee surgery (again) and will miss the first 6 weeks. I had to double check to make sure it wasn't last year's story. :p

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Nyjer Morgan to Japan; Marcum goes to the Mets; Jen, what's happening to your team?

They didn't need those guys. I'm sure the Mets really needed another starter that's hurt all the time. :p

Corey Hart is delaying his knee surgery for a second opinion.

I'm feeling better about the pitching and a potential midseason acquisition(s), depending on how things go.

18 days until pitchers and catchers report.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

I am excited with all the young arms in the rotation. They proved a lot the last 6 weeks of last year, there's no reason to think they can't keep that up and get better with experience and coaching.

The Hart thing is maddening. I hope Gamel just lights up the bb, but then where does Hart go when he comes back? Aoki has to stay in the lineup.

I said this earlier, but it's hard for me to be optimistic with this rotation. Even if they start out well, only Yo has lasted a full season and isn't coming off an injury. This says it a bit better:

Estrada couldn't pitch deep into games. Fiers ran out of gas late in the season. Rogers and Peralta throw in the mid-90s, but Rogers has never pitched more than 116 innings in a season and Peralta battled command issues in the minors.
