Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

I can't remember seeing Aoki in CF this year (but if Gomez is going to play anyway, he should be in center). Not sure if he played there in Japan. I think if they can get something for Gamel, they should deal him and use Aoki in RF, even though he's a not a traditional RF-type guy. Gamel didn't really get a chance to prove he can be consistent offensively, but Aoki did - and was. SHOULD Gomez play every day? I like his improvement, but he still needs to get on base more. Although I think I like Aoki-Gomez better than Aoki-Gamel. The team isn't hurting for power and I don't think having Aoki in RF is much of a minus for them.
I recall Aoki in CF a bunch early in the season. IIRC, Aoki and Nyjer split some of the early starts in CF against RHP. Gamel got hurt, Corey went to 1st, and Aoki to right. Then Nyjer/Gomez split a bit of time in CF until Gomez took it over. Yeah, Gomez needs to get on base more, but he's made strides this year as compared to earlier seasons. I'm content with getting more of the same next season and if he walks a bit more, super.

<a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/stats-add-up-to-a-2013-contender-7t73033-172405011.html">Michael Hunt on 2013</a>. Lots of things to be excited about.

I love the mix of small ball and Earl Weaver ball.

icebadger: you're right, and I forgot he played some center while Gomez was hurt (that seems like forever ago). I still like Gomez better in center, and Aoki-Gomez over Aoki-Gamel. This was the kind of season we'd been hoping for from Gomez - now just keep improving.

Was just looking at SB leaders - looks like Alcides Escobar had a pretty nice year for KC. Always liked him (and his speed).

and it ends much the way it began. oh well. pretty good end to a roller coaster season. certainly did not expect them to be 83-79. Brewers ended up leading the league in home runs and stolen bases (first team since 1996 Rockies to do that).

135 days until pitchers and catchers report. :D

Prince does nothing once the playoffs start? Bats .071?

Now what does that remind me of?

I'm fine with him winning a title at some point, but definitely not the first season after he leaves for a freighter full of cash.

I don't understand how JJ Hardy won a gold glove for the Orioles. He never had any range to begin with. Also, it will be at least 30 years between gold gloves for the Brewers since Yount in 1982.

Morgan and Veras outrighted to Nashville. Veras already declared free agency, Morgan will today.

Melvin on signing Josh Hamilton :) :

"We've got the connection with (hitting coach) Johnny Narron (a former mentor of Hamilton), but we don't have the connection with U.S. Bank," said Melvin, referring to the huge contract Hamilton is seeking.

SI had a sidebar on free agents and where they best fit in, and Josh Hamilton's best fit was listed as Milwaukee. It said he would make Milwaukee the best offense in the NL. Consider they already WERE one of the best offenses in the NL and all the offensive players are returning, the money seems better spent elsewhere. Like, you know... pitching.

Loe and Ishikawa outrighted to Nashville also - Loe became a free agent.

jsonline mentioned the Brewers maybe getting Jason Grilli to bolster the bullpen. This is especially interesting because Jason Grilli's agent is.... Gary Sheffield. :D

Glad we're getting rid of some of the dead weight from the bullpen. At least Dougie realizes he screwed up. Last I saw, Saito was released by AZ. Maybe see if he and Hawkins still have anything left. :D

That Melvin quote about Hamilton was priceless.

Jason Grilli, huh? I thought he was done 5 years ago, and I almost fell over when I saw him this year for Pittsburgh.

It would have been nice if the June 23rd bobblehead was Hank Aaron instead considering who the Brewers are playing that weekend.

Guess I'll just have to make multiple trips up to Milwaukee for games. :D

Sorry, but I can't get past a Racing Sausage bobble head.

And the choice of sausages for bobbleheads comes from a 2006 incident where Derrick Turnblow, err Turnbow came in to close the game out on his own bobblehead night. A couple of wild pitches, a blown hold in the 9th causing a loss, and a few heads removed from the bobbleheads and thrown on the field... leading the Brewers to find other characters to honor in statue form instead of current players.

Oh, I could just imagine what we would have done with Jose Valverde or Ryan Raburn night.

Well, that looks better than I thought it would.

Here's a name from the wayback machine: Chuck Crim named bullpen coach for the Dodgers.

Also, MVP will be announced later today. I found this intriguing note on <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/179406221.html">jsonline</a>:

For the first time, the BBWAA is posting the ballots of each voter for each award on its Web site. Thus, if any voters decide to penalize Braun for his drug saga by putting him lower on the list or excluding him altogether, it will be known.

Summary of offseason so far: The Brewers got rid of almost their entire bullpen, signed some people I've never heard of, and still don't really have a strong #2 starter.

btw, I just read every post from last season, and now I am excited for next season. However, I will (hopefully) be more excited when they sign a starter. I am not that disappointed they missed out on Dempster, and they certainly couldn't have afforded Greinke.
