Boston University 2011 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Majority of games Saturday night. Two exhibitions. Underwhelming opponents.

If there was ever a time to drop, that foot is now.
What makes you say "underwhelming opponents?" DU, Cornell, and Notre Dame should all be very good teams. Even Harvard [who they play just about every year anyway] should be decent. Or are you just referring to the home games? Also, I'm assuming they scheduled the second exhibition game against the U-18 Team for recruiting purposes. Whether that works or not is another story.

I believe that the U-18 team was scheduled to bump up the home schedule to 17 games.

For the most part, the U18 kids have already committed somewhere... unless there is a specific one they are trying to get.

At the moment, there are 7 kids from next year's team who are uncommitted. That could change by the time they get here in January, of course. I guess the question is then: why does BU - or anyone else - schedule them? I would think that Division 1 programs would try to keep up a relationship with them, even if the players on the U-18 roster [as opposed to the U-17] are committed already. That is just a guess though. One thing I do know is the top programs seem to schedule them regularly. Last season, Cornell, Michigan, Maine, North Dakota, Denver, Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota [insert joke here] played them.

There could be one of the 7 remaining that they have targeted... who knows.... As far as why do we schedule them? Personally I have no idea... to me its a game with no sizzle and I wish the tickets were not forced on me as a part of the season ticket package.

Perhaps everyone just figures the U18 team needs to play someone and I'm sure the coaches all have relationships, so people agree to put them on the schedule.

Curious why Saturday night games are bad? Traffic Friday nights last season around BU was an absolute nightmare plus there are more late arrivals (i.e. traffic/work) on Fridays versus Saturdays. I'd much rather have Saturday games.

Agreed... for me the Sat night games are best.

the home, of course. Playing notre dame on nye doesn't really work for me getting out there. DU is nice.. One trip to msg was enough for me the first time. HC and two exhibitions..... Bleech!

All those U18 kids will have a future home by the time they visit here, if not already.

Perhaps they like to see how their recruits stack up against D1 competition.

Yeah, I thought that might have been what your point was. As an out-of-towner, I wasn't thinking along those lines because I have different priorities. If they are playing at BC on a Sunday afternoon so that ESPNU can televise it, that is just great. Notre Dame on New Year's eve? If its on TV, I'll take it. And BU coming to MSG ... even better.

I would much prefer the under 18 exhibition game to the Canadian teams. at least you see players who are going to be playing in the college atmosphere the next few years. also it is a way of supporting a national program that has sent many players to our team. My only objection to the schedule so many front loaded games before mid-Dec.

Sure... but in that case the U18 game should be the first weekend of October... any exibition should be early season IMO.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I have not followed the schedule development and speculation too much...all in all a decent schedule but:

-Was hoping for ND sometime in the fall with the possibility of doubling as a football / hockey weekend... would have been a sweet road trip.
-Looking like the Tuesday before Thanksgiving game is a thing of the past, which is too bad... i always enjoyed that as a sort of kickoff to the holidays.
-I thought we were not going to play Harvard on the years that we play them first round of the Beanpot anymore?
-The U-18 game? Yuck.
-The U-18 game on a Sunday? Double Yuck.

South Bend on New Year's Eve, what could be better than that? Bball schedule isn't out yet, always a chance there could be a big name matchup provided they are home.

Kid was a constant discipline problem and would never have made it at BU, good luck and good riddance.

The kid was 15 !! How do you know he was a constant discipline problem? How do you know he wouldn't have grown up and been just fine? How do you find time to take a crap with all the talking out of your arse that you do?
